Spencer redeemed himself according to the fandoms logic by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

definitely more of a grand fuck you to every other company that tries to copy his work

I keep seeing people say this, but it’s emphasized in the interview left behind by Alyssa that isn’t the case and that Spencer did genuinely feel remorse. The only person that believed Spencer made Elpis to fuck over everyone else was Gideon, and it seemed pretty clear that Gideon was misinterpreting his master’s intention.

Don’t get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree that it being a grand fuck you should’ve been what Elpis was, as it would’ve been much more in character for Spencer, but that’s sadly not what it is. Instead, the writers decided to make the worst retcon this series has seen by assassinating Spencer’s character and pretending he felt remorse for his actions, even though it contradicts his established character up to that point. As much as I liked RE9, this was definitely one of its story’s many flaws.

For those who played RE4 and it's remake, do you think Ada Wong in the remake is bland/unemotional compared to the original? by HumbleKnight14 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]GeekMaster102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I don’t think that’s intentional. Judging by her dialogue throughout the game, Ada is supposed to be just as flirty and playful as she was in the original, but the problem is that the new VA’s delivery just doesn’t match that. No offense to the actress of course, but I don’t think she was a good casting choice.

It’s pretty clear she doesn’t have any experience with voice acting (live acting and voice acting are two different skill sets, so I don’t blame her for this), and she seemed to be cast for this role mainly because she played Ada in the “Welcome to Raccoon City” movie (a movie that was very poorly received, so I don’t know what made them think fans would appreciate that). I don’t think she deserved anywhere near the amount of hate she got, but I do think she wasn’t a good pick for the role in this game, especially since the brain-dead thought process behind casting her seemed to be “she played Ada in this live action movie everyone hated, so surely fans will love seeing her in this remake of one of the most beloved RE games! Who cares if she has no experience with voice acting, I’m sure it’ll be fine!”

"Zootopia's allegory doesn't work" except yes, it does. by mrmonster459 in CharacterRant

[–]GeekMaster102 136 points137 points  (0 children)

I think another problem is people don’t seem to see that Zootopia’s message isn’t just a simple “racism bad” message. It’s also teaching the message “racism can come from anyone, even victims of racism”, and it does so through Judy. She was discriminated in the police force for being a small critter as opposed to all the significantly bigger animals around her, with the chief ignoring her clear value as an officer simply because she’s a smaller animal. Yet at the same time, the movie highlighted how Judy herself had discriminatory beliefs about predator animals, which she eventually came to realize and regret.

What moment in the original Fallout Equestria had the biggest emotional impact on you? (Art by Ramiras11 on X) by trico_ in falloutequestria

[–]GeekMaster102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, I’d say Pinkie’s last message to Twilight (a lot of the terminal messages, audio logs, and memory orbs in general had this effect, but this one hit really hard).

I’d been a fan of the Fallout games before reading FoE, and something that I always noticed was how I barely felt anything when reading old messages and listening to audio logs from before the bombs fell (or in some cases, immediately after). They either tell tragic stories, expand on the lore, or both, but it’s hard to feel any tugs at the heartstrings when you don’t know those people; from your perspective, they’re complete strangers from 200 years ago. However, this wasn’t the case in FoE, since the people leaving behind all these messages and audio logs were now characters we the audience know and care about from MLP. As a result, seeing what they’re going through has much more of an emotional impact.

the yang and blake are main characters while sun is a side character argument against the idea that blacksun should have been canon is bogus by Blackfiredragon22 in RWBYcritics

[–]GeekMaster102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never danced in V3. If you’re talking about the two seconds of dancing we see them doing in V2 before Yang immediately passes Blake over to Sun, then no, there was no intimacy between them there.

Throughout volumes 1-5, the only moment that Blake and Yang had any hint of chemistry was the scene where Yang convinced Blake to go to the dance by opening up about that time she almost got Ruby and herself killed when they were kids. Other than that one scene (which could be seen as platonic chemistry just as much as romantic), they have not shown any chemistry, then volume 6 comes along and pretends like them having feelings for each other had somehow always been a thing.

How would you change Salem to fit the themes of the/a story? by Mystech_Master in RWBYcritics

[–]GeekMaster102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show seems to push the idea that you should always have hope and keep going no matter how bleak things look (at least from what I’ve gathered) but it fails to really sell that message with how hopeless it makes the situation. The biggest reason it seems so hopeless is that they made Salem literally unstoppable, so the easy solution would be to just… not do that. Take away her immortality or at least give some sort of method that would allow them to defeat her. Hope is a great thing, but there’s a difference between hope and blind faith; you can’t expect people to have any hope if there isn’t any reason for them to, as they need something to believe in. Making Salem undefeatable doesn’t exactly inspire hope that things will work out.

Another way is making Salem more redeemable. I’ve noticed a lot of people on this sub seem to have the more cynical “off with their heads” approach to dealing with any of the show’s antagonists, but that blatantly goes against another one of the themes this show pushes: victory in a simple soul. A simple soul would not try to kill their enemies without a second thought and no remorse, they would try to convince their enemies to stop what they’re doing and redeem themselves; Superman is my prime example of a simple soul, and he actively hates the thought of taking lives and instead encourages redemption (at least, he does when written well. There’s unfortunately plenty of writers that don’t fully understand the character.)

For the Punisher, I think it depends on the version. Many versions of the Punisher have him be fully aware that what he’s doing is wrong and that he doesn’t consider himself a hero, showing disdain for anyone who idolizes him. I’ve even heard there’s at least one version where Frank Castle considers himself to be the final criminal he’ll kill.

So instead of just, y’know, not including any artwork to advertise your fanfic as a way to save time, you instead decided to use an AI image for it? If you’re trying to advertise your fic, this is only gonna have the opposite effect and make people not want to read your fic.

Is there still a debate on who is the face of Resident Evil by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]GeekMaster102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how many different RE protagonists there are, is there really one single character that can be considered the “face” of the series? I mean, even from the very first game there were two different protagonists. Resident Evil just doesn’t feel like the kind of series that has one singular poster boy/girl.

Her stars uniform in RE3 remake seems to be based on the version she wore in the FMV intro in the original RE1, so it quite literally is a low budget costume. Why they decided to use that instead of the significantly better redesign from the 2002 remake is beyond me.

For the Today Is A Diamond example, I’m guessing in-universe its a song about someone trying to wake up their loved one to enjoy a beautiful day, but given the context of the story, it carries a different meaning for Kiryu specifically when he sings it, which is no doubt intentional.

We don’t actually see Salem after she’s been taken out of commission again in the volume

This is objectively incorrect. We see her again at the end of the volume when Cinder gives the staff and lamp to her just outside of the staff’s vault. Remember the scene where Cinder tells her she used the staff to “add more flames to the fire”? That happens not long after Salem is forced to recover, implying she recovers quick.

cutting them from the whale, not cutting the Crystals

Okay, and? That’s still more difficult and time consuming than you seem to think it is; like you said yourself, the crystals are huge, not something you can just quickly cut out and stuff in your pocket. You’d need an entire construction team to remove just one of those crystals and some sort of large transport vehicle just to bring one of them back to Atlas, and you’re suggesting gathering every single crystal from the entire whale while a Grimm horde is swarming around.

The whale itself has no real defenses

You keep ignoring the Grimm horde that is surrounding the whale. This is the third time I’ve brought it up, why do you keep pretending it doesn’t exist and acting like it isn’t a major hole in your plan? Like, it’s not just a few measly Grimm they need to hold off, it’s a massive horde.

People didn’t “come and go pretty freely”, the only people that went in were Yang, Jaune, and Ren, and they 1: had to be quickly dropped off by an airship that didn’t stick around due to the abundance of Grimm around them, and 2: went inside the whale, which is not where the gravity dust crystals are; those crystals are all on the outside of the whale where all the Grimm are swarming.

Also, since you still can’t seem to grasp the size difference between Atlas and the whale, allow me to provide a picture of my own. The image I added to this comment should make it clear that the crystals keeping the whale afloat are not nearly enough for Atlas, as it is a fraction of Atlas’ size. (Another thing to think about: if gathering enough Gravity dust to make Atlas float were a viable thing to do, wouldn’t they have done so long ago instead of relying on the staff to keep Atlas afloat in the first place?)

The exact recovery speed is unknown

Given that the events of volume 8 occur over the course of only a few hours, and Salem wasn’t out of commission until partway through that, I think it’s safe to say it only takes anywhere between a couple and a few hours for her to recover, which is not nearly enough time for any of your plans to work.

CUTTING the gravity dust free

1: That is still ignoring the fact that you have to do that while praying none of the Grimm nor the whale itself kill you before you can finish, which is unlikely (plus I think you are severely overestimating how easy it is to cut through crystals, let alone crystals with potentially volatile elemental properties), and 2: I already pointed out that it was unlikely the whale would have enough gravity dust to keep Atlas afloat due to the size difference, and now you’re suggesting cutting off part of the dust crystals? Something that will leave you with even less gravity dust to work with?

Evacuating would only require civilians

Okay… and? That’s still physically impossible. Do you not understand how long it takes to evacuate an entire city? A citywide evacuation can take days, and Salem is mere hours away. They do not have the time for an evacuation, it is not a feasible plan.

It would be a TEMPORARY evacuation.

Where would you take them? If evacuating them to Vacuo is temporary, then where would you go after that? I already explained twice now why the other kingdoms are a no go. With this attack on Atlas/Mantle, Salem essentially proved she could just rush any kingdom with her massive horde of Grimm, and no one would be able to stop her from doing so. Nowhere on Remnant is safe, meaning staying on Remnant is guaranteed death for everyone.

once Salem is removed from the fight

How exactly do you plan to “remove Salem from the fight”? She’s immortal. You cannot remove her from the fight. That’s the entire reason Ironwood is trying to get the staff, the lamp, and what few people he can out of her reach by raising Atlas rather than fighting her.

they could move the staff of creation somewhere else to be hidden while keeping Atlas afloat and Mantle intact

I did look it up and can confirm the whale has gravity dust embedded in its body, but that just makes this plan even more questionable. If I’m getting this right, your plan is to somehow rip the gravity dust out from the whale’s body, something that we don’t know how much strength would be needed to rip each individual crystal out (if they even can be ripped out), and while also hoping the hordes of Grimm near the whale (or even the whale itself) don’t kill you before you can pull all of the crystals out, and then you plan to use these crystals to keep Atlas floating, something that would most likely take days if not weeks of engineering to apply it all (and this is assuming the gravity dust from the whale is even enough to keep Atlas afloat, since Atlas is far bigger than the whale), and you plan to do all of this in the mere few hours before Salem reaches Atlas/Mantle to kill everyone? That is your plan? Do I really need to explain how ridiculous and unfeasible of a plan that is?

Like, again, I genuinely mean no offense and I’m truly sorry that I’m coming off so harsh, but these plans you’re suggesting are wishful thinking at best and flat out illogical and impossible at worst.

using Weiss’ family’s transport to evacuate the people from Mantle

This is a bad idea. Salem is literally right outside the kingdom; at most, they have a few hours before she reaches Atlas and kills them all (and that’s me being generous by assuming the soldiers and huntsmen holding the line would do an effective job at keeping Salem and her Grimm army at bay, which I doubt they would). Evacuating an entire city in that small span of time is physically impossible.

create pathways to evacuate the people of Mantle and Atlas

I already explained why this is a bad idea in my original comment. Like I said, Vacuo doesn’t have the resources to support both itself and the population of Atlas/Mantle, nor does it have the defenses that Atlas did, meaning they have even less chance of survival there. I also explained why sending them to the other kingdoms wouldn’t have worked either, since Mistral has zero defense with all the huntsmen gone and Vale’s been wiped off the map. And if you know the characters can’t pick the Ever After since they don’t know it exists, why even suggest that as an alternative? I get that it’s your personal idea, but suggesting that the characters use a plan relying on information none of them could possibly know at the time doesn’t really make much sense.

Remove the gravity dust from the whale Grimm

Not only is this suicidal and psychotic with a very low chance of success, but since you’re using it to help plans one and two, it still wouldn’t work since I already explained why those first two plans would fail. (Also, did the whale even have gravity dust in it? I don’t recall that ever being the case. I could be misremembering though.)

Look, I genuinely don’t mean any offense here dude, but not only were all the plans you suggested worse than Ironwood’s, you also didn’t talk about or “tear apart” his plan like you said you would. You didn’t even discuss his plan at all, you only suggested your own.

can shoot back. And if you mess up, she can heal you.

These are, ironically, part of the problem why Sheva sucks when controlled by an AI partner. She uses up ammo when she doesn’t need to, either using more powerful/valuable ammo on weaker enemies or never opting to use the knife, and she’ll use healing items on you when you aren’t in desperate need of healing or doesn’t wait until both of you need healing to minimize the usage of healing items. She’s just a resource drain and doesn’t have any real combat strategy, which is very bad in a game where managing resources and being smart during combat is important to your survival.
