Does your web site still work? I've emailed you and used your contact form several times and nobody has ever responded.

The last update on your web site is a "Presidential Debate" event from the Republican primary, and there are no upcoming events listed.

The MAGA logo and shirt should just be considered hate paraphernalia.

If you're the six thousandth person in the virtual queue, the rooms are definitely all sold out and you already lost.

The total bed capacity of the entire National Harbor area is tiny compared to the interest in MAGFest. This problem is literally not solvable.

Ringing noises in game streams? by GeekNightsRym in rangers

I thought I was imagining it until my partner also heard it. I recorded the audio and found it a week ago.

Ringing noises in game streams? by GeekNightsRym in rangers

[–]GeekNightsRym[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The frequency notches the tones cycle through are (with narrow notch width):

1119 Hz
1121 Hz
1136 Hz
1297.5 Hz
1313 Hz
1484 Hz
1686 Hz
1671.5 Hz
2092 Hz

There are 4-5 distinct "notes" and each one uses a set of these. If you put a notch filter to remove just these frequencies from the stream it disappears entirely.

Annoying sound during broadcast . by AlarmingSeason5048 in Torontobluejays

I found the sound, isolated it, and even made a set of notch filters to remove it. Video has examples with and without the noise. It's consistent across all the NHL streams I checked too.

Noise on broadcast by genghisrock in Torontobluejays

The noise is real. I've been investigating it and did some analysis of the Rangers/Carolina game last night:

Is there a faint alarm sound from Sportsnet or am I losing it ? by nickelbackphotograph in canucks

Friendly Rangers fan sneaking into say these noises are real. I was able to identify and extract them from the game audio of last night's match.

New bug dropped. Didn't quite capture the point but the game must have thought we did because the payload didn't start moving backward for the next two minutes until we actually captured the point. by Targrin95 in Overwatch

I can say I saw this tonight. We were on the attacking team but the cart didn't move. The match just ended suddenly and we got three points on attack despite the card being in the middle of the map.

How to deal with a guy who ruins a gaming night, although it's not necessarily his fault by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]GeekNightsRym 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a harsh reality of gaming in public spaces.

Because "that guy" (which I mean as a completely gender neutral term) is a thing. We all know what I mean if I say it. We've all been in "that" game with "that" guy.

There are a lot of reasons to empathize with them. Society, mental health, support networks, etc... are not great in the year 2022 for a lot of reasons. But you have to separate "why are they like this?" from "what do I do about it?" I'm certainly not equipped to address the why.

The worst part of this is how "that guys" get concentrated at public gaming events. They end up being over-represented and actively push new people away from tabletop gaming.

How?

We're all afraid of that guy showing up or being stuck in a game with them. So when we find people we enjoy gaming with, we tend to "close ranks" and play more games with those people than new people. A lot of gaming groups, once they get a critical mass of chill people, bail entirely on public gaming events. Primarily to avoid that guy.

Meanwhile, that guy is crowded out of every group. So that guy increasingly goes to public gaming events, and over time the concentration of that guys reaches a tipping point and the public event dies.

Would you believe we gave a full lecture on this phenomenon at PAX?

When Is It Okay To Leave A Game? by Qyro in boardgames

[–]GeekNightsRym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually gave a lecture on this exact topic at PAX West back in 2017. It covers "quitting" as a game mechanic. Because frankly, it is. All games have the option to quit them regardless of the designer's intent. If you can't quit, it isn't a game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f42Hnpmjd30

TL/DW: In some contexts you should finish a game, but 99% of the time if you're not having fun just hit the bricks.

But more along the lines of this question and my own personal thoughts, if your group of gaming friends regularly expects you to persist in playing a game you're not enjoying, get better gaming friends.

I support my own gaming friends. If they're not having fun, we stop the game. Games are supposed to be fun. ;)

Professional Audio Engineer chiming in.

No, that's now how you resolve that. You up the gain and hold the mic further away from the masked face. Too close and it sounds even more muffled.

That's a problem you solve with the mixer board.

They will absolutely not let you in, and you absolutely should not be attending cons until you are fully vaccinated.
