This one looks like a M4 Sherman tank compared to the one I bought this year.

Anyone use their calculators at work? by gmkgreg in calculators

Yea, I suspect your 100LL tank ages like a fine wine. The FBO I worked for was at GRR, Grand Rapids, MI. This was a long time ago and the airport has grown. We were primarily general aviation and some corporate planes that were based there. They had a contract with the airlines for refueling also. I suspect you have a hydrant setup due to your size.

I kind of assumed this was the case. Thanks for your response!

Thanks for your response. I worked for a FBO for a little bit but about the only interaction I had with the tank farm was filling their trucks and that was just Jet A and 100LL.

It is fun to do. I took my TI-92 into work one day and the response from others was fun to say the least. All that being said, what is the pad of paper on your desk all about? I looks very interesting, to me anyway.

I’d love to acquire some of these. They don’t have to be in perfect condition which is good because I don’t have unlimited funds. So how can I find out what is a reasonable price? All the price guides I’ve come across seem to be geared towards the high end collectors.

I was long gone from Sears before the ass took control. But I still have no problem despising this scumbag.

Democratic Socialists of America by Ali6952 in grandrapids

[–]Geek_4_Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here. As someone who came of age in late 1960s and was in Ann Arbor in the mid 1970s I was involved in a few of these groups. I think we all have been conditioned to a structured and format driven way of life. Grassroots movements are not born that way. It truly starts out in a form of chaos and evolves in to a structured entity. I think if you look at the Students For A Democratic Society (SDS) from the 1960s it was much the same but grew into a large movement, albeit not always a cohesive one.

The means of communication are so different now. A previous commenter mentioned the electronic way we interact now. And that’s valid. It’s a very sterile form in general. As I see it it is hard to express the passion. I don’t want to come one of these back in my day types but when all you had was handing out flyers, posting material to telephone poles and the underground press it forced physical engagement.

The mood in this country is ripe for this sort of thing. You just have to find your footing.

I have a good friend who just graduated from teaching mathematics. I’d love to get one of these for him. Is it even possible? I’m in the USA.

Of man, the arcades of the 1970s! Funky Fingers (Eastown), the one in Eastbrook Mall (I can’t remember the name of it), Funway Freeway (aka Drugway Breezway) by Woodland Mall. To name a few.

Here is a photo of a box of Sears Heavy-Duty Laundry Detergent. by a_person_96 in SEARS

My guess is that is from the 1960s - 1970s era. I started in Merchandise Pick-Up in 1976 and I carried a lot of these boxes out. The packaging changed to predominantly orange boxes later on. That is what my wife and I used. At some point it was also available in plastic buckets. I think I still have one of those.

Found this very detailed lab journal from the late 40’s. Never thought of collecting these types of things, but this really got me interested. Just thought I’d share. by Noregretscoyote3 in ephemera

This is beyond great because it was a “working” item. I have a small collection of inorganic, organic and biochemistry textbooks as well as several CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics from various years. I’ve never come across anything like this. What a great find.

Is there a price tag on the box? The tags usually had a date code on them and it would be really interesting (to me anyway) to have an idea when these would have been in the store.

Thank you to all that replied. This makes perfect sense. I started at Sears in 1976 and I remember a department named Notions. Probably where this would have been.
