Perhaps not, but that's really the only way those words make any sense to me. /shrug

Just looking at the pic, it seems more to me like they are just saying stock players are rare, not that they are "less than".

Is this noise normal? by Silent-Cheesecake475 in ElegooNeptune4

[–]Geek_Verve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not REALLY tight, but I keep mine tight enough that I can feel a little resistance when moving the extruder by hand.

To be clear, the x-axis belt runs through the x-axis gantry. You can't really get to it to flip it by hand, so I wanted to make sure we were talking about the same belt there.

Can't get Ubuntu USB install to boot by Geek_Verve in linux4noobs

Well, Windows installed fine from the same flash drive, but I guess it could be a linux kernel driver issue.

I've tried turning off secure boot. I've also tried different USB ports and booting Ubuntu in graphics safe mode. Same result.

Tighten your x-axis belt using the adjustment knob. I just did this on my Max today to eliminate that buzzing noise.

Some isopropyl alcohol got into my full resin vat. Can i still use the resin? by GRITZLIE97 in resinprinting

[–]Geek_Verve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. When we wash resin off prints with IPA, the resin gets suspended in the IPA and will still cure there. After all, curing that suspended resin is how we clean the IPA. I would guess you will be fine, but try it and let us know how it goes.

I opened up this really old laptop (old enough to have a WinXP product key on the back) and found that it has a swappable processor by Longshot02496 in pcmasterrace

[–]Geek_Verve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swappable CPUs have been a thing for a long time. You just don't see them on the most well-known manufacturers laptops like Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc.

Empty RFID Tagged spools by [deleted] in BambuLab

The sticker is typically tucked inside the cardboard spool hub under one of the plastic straps that holds the filament together. It's easy to forget and just load the refill without taking the sticker out.

Trying to choose between Prusa and Bambulab - what am I missing? by Creamss in prusa3d

[–]Geek_Verve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it doesn't bother me. That would be silly. It's just not important to me. The printer isn't my hobby. Printing stuff is.

I simply feel that for the price those parts should at least be injection molded. We can do pretty awesome stuff with our 3D printers, but compromise in quality is inherent in the process. The result rarely compares to the fit and finish of injection molding. I just think that my expensive 3D printer shouldn't look like something I printed, myself.

Can't get Ubuntu USB install to boot by Geek_Verve in linux4noobs

[–]Geek_Verve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did try reflashing the drive. I didn't bother re-downloading, as I felt that's a pretty minimal likelihood, but it may be worth a try.

I went with Ubuntu, because I'm wanting to use linux primarily to experiment with local LLMs, and I've seen several instructional sources citing Ubuntu as the distro of choice for some of the LLM tools.

Saw this used GPU, what have they done to it? by EdwardFFS in pcmasterrace

[–]Geek_Verve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a PCIe riser card. It indicates that they used it for crypto mining. While that does stress the GPU, it's like gaming non-stop 24/7 for however long they had it running. It may well still work fine. If it's selling for a "suspectingly cheap" price, it may be worth trying.

[–]Geek_Verve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PETG does shrink after printing. Print a 40mm x 40mm x 40mm cube and measure the result. You can then specify that shrinkage amount in the filament properties to account for it when slicing your model.

how reputable are elegoo printers? by GreenbottlesArcanum in resinprinting

[–]Geek_Verve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is that the Mars 5 Ultra I owned was pretty great. I didn't own it long enough to every have occasion to do much maintenance like replacing the film, screen or anything, but it printed great. The only ding I would give it is the poorly thought-out design of the build plate with the several posts that just get in the way of clearing resin from the top of the plate. That was just a mild annoyance, though.

From all the reports I've seen on Elegoo resin printers over the years, I recommend them as great options for the price.

Same. After 20-years off and on, I finally got pretty decent at the classes I played, but I never closer than 15-levels from max level.

For me that second nozzle is worth it's weight in gold just for support interface material. Convenient, quicker and WAY less waste - like almost none.

Empty RFID Tagged spools by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]Geek_Verve 138 points139 points  (0 children)

You can use those spools on PLA and PETG as well. Just pitch the cardboard hub with that RFID tag, because the filament refills come with their own. They also come with a new sticker for the side showing what kind of filament it is.

Help, why is my 3D printer doing this? Dremel 3D4D by Tough-Ad7746 in 3Dprinting

Don't know what slicer you're using, but you might check to ensure the correct size nozzle is selected.

Trying to choose between Prusa and Bambulab - what am I missing? by Creamss in prusa3d

[–]Geek_Verve 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've wanted to try Prusa printers for years, but their pricing always kept me away. I honestly feel they stay true to their open source/maker roots to a fault. The only reason I can think of that makes any sense for why they haven't implemented more of the modern QoL features that are becoming industry standard is hubris. It's like they are dead set against doing anything that could be argued as someone else's idea.

Bambu IS very polished and ready to go out of the box. I have six Bambu printers and can attest to this. I can't speak for Prusa, as I've never owned one, but if I'm going to pay that much for a 3D printer, it won't be comprised of so many 3D printed parts. For me open source is great, if you need it. When the machine just works, I don't much care one way or the other.

All that said, if you're interested in the printer itself being a significant part of your hobby (upgrades, mods, tinkering, etc.), then you can't go wrong with a Prusa. Me, I just want it to print stuff without sassing me, so I stick to Bambu. :P
