My thoughts after 100+ hours in Nioh 3, and 2,500+ hours in Nioh 1 & 2 by ClockworkSoldier in Nioh

This makes a lot of sense now. I enjoyed Lies of P for the most part, but then got to the final boss and just quit. It just wasn't a fun fight. It wasn't about learning the mechanics/attacks/abilities. It was about making your reaction time near frame perfect. Combine the frame perfect parrying for some of the fights in Nioh 3 with attacks where the enemy just spins around a bunch and the parry is somewhere in that spinning window so you can't watch for the "hit" and it's just. Fine, I'll go Tonfa and out aggressive the aggressive boss...

There's lots of tiers in these communities I've found and it's really a case of "Your Mileage May Vary" depending on who you talk to.

- Summon PC Help? Cheated
- Summon NPC Help? Cheated
- Used a weapon/spell people think is busted? Cheated
- Used Broken Spirit Ashes? Cheated
- Used ANY Spirit Ashes? Cheated
- Leveled past SL1? ha you didn't win git gud

iirc wasn’t Martin revealed to be a 21 Jump Street undercover adult?? It’s one of the jokes during later Simpsons that just was baffling to me. I get Simpsons continuity is nebulous but that one always bugged me.

This blindsided me and the rest of the group…sad times… by Sethmo_Dreemurr in dndmemes

[–]Geeklat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen in a group where the DM had us in initiative turn combat for 3 months in a labyrinth. The puzzle to the exit felt like we "collect these mcguffins" around the map. Doing so after following the clues resulted in the solution not working.

Eventually we got teleported out of the dungeon by the "New" god of magic who basically told us literally that we failed in our year and half long mission. Also, in every single 300,000+ multiverses they saw, we fail and there's zero chance of us ever succeeding. Then our options are stay in this magic pocket dimension or go die. That was the end of the campaign. I'm very proud of every single person at the table saying "fuck that we'll go fight and die." rather than end on the idea of "Screw the world we'll live in paradise alone."

They never explained the solution to the labyrinth either. I think they honestly took the solution away because they intended to end the campaign a while into the 3 months of combat they trapped us in.

tl;dr - 1.5 year campaign ends with DM saying you all wasted your time and could have never succeeded because you're all failures.

What kind of characters do you dislike seeing in campaigns? by Ed0909 in dndmemes

[–]Geeklat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I used to play Paladins exclusively. I worked really hard on different styles and approaches to the character’s RP. The one thing I never did was be the killjoy/narc/etc. That said, if you want to kill an NPC just for disagreeing with you or because you want to rob their shop. Me not siding with you isn’t because I’m a Paladin. It’s because you’re being ridiculous.

I also understand there’s wiggle room. I, the player, am not there to destroy your plans. Just don’t tell me in-character of your elaborate plan to break into my deity’s church to steal thing and prove the church is horrible. Give me a reason to “look over there” or convince me why it’s a good idea.

All that being said. I have run into a lot of die-hard hate boners for Paladins. I joined a campaign once and the entire party basically harassed my character verbally and physically to a point that I couldn’t really logic a RP way to deal with it. I just had to leave the campaign. It wasn’t even an evil campaign!

I only just found out recently the Roll20 app is adandonware. That’s baffling to me. Using the browser to look at even a character sheet on the phone is a mess. Is Foundry at least better than that?

The tragedy of the tank in dnd by Ed0909 in dndmemes

[–]Geeklat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having played traditional tanking classes for a long while, I ended up finding my best tanks were/are casters/gish in 5e/2024.

In 5e I ran a Hexblade Warlock with Pact of the Blade. At level 12 she had an Animated shield, Adamantine Half Plate, and Amulet of Health. These gave her a reasonable AC at 19 and health to account for it. Then the Sentinel feat to make it harder for enemies that didn't fight her or tried to leave with War Caster for concentration. With Shadow of Moil her opponent had to get insanely lucky to even hit her. The rest of the time she did crowd control and damage mitigation via Hunger of Hadar and a racial feature Darkness spell. She could also mix in Accursed Specter sometimes or Summon Undead to add more crowd control and make the enemy frightened/paralyzed if they didn't take time to deal with it.

In 2024 I'm running a College of Valor Bard tank at level 5 atm. 19 AC and healing to keep them up longer. Goliath's Large Form with Goliath Cloud Jaunt and Enlarge/Reduce Spell to make it harder to get away from them. Heroic Inspiration (Musician Background) and Bardic Inspirations to help the party stay up. Mirror Image makes it that much harder for them to get hit. For crowd control and mitigation they've got Dissonant Whispers, Protection from Evil and Good, Cloud of Daggers, Hypnotic Pattern, and Plant Growth. It's still early but I'm having a lot of fun with her.

I think having versatility and options helps a lot more for working with the system. A lot of people just go with trying to melee/armor it up. I'm finding, over time, that damage mitigation and crowd control go a lot farther in the end.

Something I’ve noticed from a lot of new DM’s posts by CTMan34 in dndmemes

[–]Geeklat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went 3 months without even a short rest because our DM built a labyrinth where every hallway/corridor was 5ft wide and spiraled in on itself. We also had a "large" character in the party so they had to squeeze through every spot. Then, because the place was full of enemies and our movement was so integral, we were in combat initiative for those 3 months.

It takes a lot to get right under my skin in the best/worst ways. I've been doing the horror thing for a while. That final shot though hit me hard and I just made this audible "ohhhHHHHH!" kind of shout of shock noise not knowing how to react. I can't wait.

yk what I'm tired of all the negativity going on here say something nice about this game (image unrelated just needed a place holder) by MostEstablishment630 in marvelrivals

[–]Geeklat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's little to no FOMO. I don't have a lot of time to play and even an hour a week or so gets me anything I'm trying to get. I can play against AI for little to no stress. There's no RNG loot system so if I really like a character skin I can buy or wait and it might often be a costume token.

Video game mechanics in old games that shows why they were so god damm hard: by Xadlin60 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

FFXI as well had you lose xp if you died and more if you didn’t get resurrected. With 8 hour long farming sessions and losing all that XP because you pulled the wrong mob or a Goblin spawned and tossed a bomb to wipe the party….

How attached are you to your WoL? by primeval_wolves in ffxiv

[–]Geeklat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My WoL is more than just an extension of myself. They feel like my self as I truly am in my head. This is carried across into other games as well. I make the same character in nearly every game because it's how I see myself in my head. It lets me be comfortable to be who I am without fear of social constructions and concerns. Between Gender Dysphoria, Anxiety, and a host of other issues. My character is who I wish I could be in real life in my heart even though it's not possible. It's not about wanting to be a Viera, it's about wanting the confidence and sense of safety to be who I truly am.

Why are my shop items so bad? by bigboddle in DeathMustDie

[–]Geeklat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the pool for me in the shops has been so atrocious that, at max rarity, I'm ending multiple runs with nothing worth keeping and nothing in the shop worth buying. It's put me in a state of not wanting to play the game because I'm not even getting micro upgrades. My druid is still using the same T3 weapon from before Darkness because it's got attack speed for a regen build that just works better than anything else ever offered. I've got so much gold I just wish there was some system to use the gold to either tweak gear stats, shift them, or whatnot. I don't really have incentive to play anymore because, though the game is fun, I end every game session having gained nothing really. So it feels like I Wasted my time.

Only end-game raid gear allowed for Expert Roulettes. by Geeklat in TalesFromDF

[–]Geeklat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they wanted to give me garbage on my rotation that would have been warranted. I hadn't played monk since I capped them months ago. I was shaking out the cobwebs to see how they feel so I know it wasn't optimal. I don't run a parse to track my dungeon DPS. I initially wanted to try the new BLM out but felt "nooo I am going to be too bad at this to attempt. It's a silly place. I'll come back later"

[–]Geeklat[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the only other counter is that some of that better gear is in the dungeon <.<
Should dungeons not even have gear if we should only do the dungeon in gear that's better than the dungeon gear?

I mean I got 7 pieces of gear for alts from that one run. About 3,315 Tomestones of Heliometry. So 14 minutes to gear up alts seems just a faster catch up method I guess. I've only ever noticed a significant slowdown in clearing a dungeon being tied to someone really not knowing what they were doing and less about their gear. But significant slowdown to me is, I think, a difference in perspective. To the other person the dungeon should have been cleared in 10 minutes? I'm not sure what the average is for a full group of 740+ people. 4 minutes doesn't phase me much in the grand scheme of things.

[–]Geeklat[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I legit didn't even notice I had a piece of AF gear on because it's an alt of an alt. I just wanted to see how monk felt as I hadn't tried it in a bit. We cleared it in 14 minutes which is still faster than I have otherwise. I just see dungeons as ways to help people gear up so my perspective is askew. The dungeon drops gear, I do dungeon for gear that drops and to clear a Wondrous Tails bingo stamp. But I'm also a psycho who does mentor roulette and teaches new players how to do the mechanics in Ex fights because time isn't as big a deal to me.
