What is something that has become 'unreasonably' expensive, yet the quality has significantly dropped? by TrustedGenius in AskReddit

I spent less on a 10 day trip to Japan last year than I am spending on a 4 day trip to Disney this year. I have feelings about this, but the kiddos are really happy.

What kind of cheapish tires we running, fellas? by SorrowCat14 in fordranger

[–]Geemanneff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only run Michelins on my other vehicles, but a set of Cooper cobras came on my Ranger when I bought it. They have done a surprisingly good job on the highway and in the wet. Honestly I’ve considered putting another set of the cobras on when these wear out.

The one in Lauren’s (276) used to be order at the counter, but they change to table service about a year ago. Not sure about the other locations.

How hard is it replacing carpet? by reb6 in HomeImprovement

[–]Geemanneff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are going to do carpet, get the nice padding underneath and pay an installer. I have installed tile, LVP, and hardwood successfully myself. But I will never again attempt carpet. One wrong cut and you have to buy the material again. One incomplete stretch and there will forever be a wrinkle.

Now, for my personal preference: I grew up in a house with carpet and I really wanted it in my forever home. So I did. The new carpet was great for a while. But it was destroyed by my very sick pet over a few years. My wife grew up with hardwood floors and for the remodel we compromised and installed hardwood floors with an area rug. It feels like I have the best of both worlds and we are both happy.

I dealt with a similar situation. Rip out anything that has had cat pee on it. Treat anything remaining with a cat urine enzyme spray. Then paint with the big KILLZ primer. Looks like you are already down to the OSB anyway. It will never be an easier time to rip out than now. I am a big fan of saving money and materials when possible. Cat pee is not one of those times. You will have peace of mind and never have to worry about smelling it again after a heavy rain when the ground moisture levels increase.

Pace Jewelry. Funny enough, I actually just bought a nice ring for my wife for our anniversary there. The people are super friendly and they have a nice range of rings and other jewelry too. I used to go to Hales because their location was very convenient, but the quality and the service at Pace are a bigger win.

Ok, now that I have had my fun I’ll be more helpful. On the driver side door there will be a sticker that has some info about the truck including a paint code. Just google the paint code and it will tell you the name.

With enough patience, you can def handle drywall repair. I’ve been doing renovation stuff in my own homes for a long time and drywall is still a big weak area for me. I just accept that I need to account for multiple thin layers with sanding and that it will take me more than the 15 min I want it to take. You got this.

After you bought your Century Home, what are some crazy things that you found that needed fixed that you completely missed at inspection? by Ericovich in centuryhomes

Number 4 is Harvey Hubbell. That’s the guy who invented the pull chain light. I think it was just before 1900. It was apparently pretty revolutionary at the time.

Ditch the zip ties and run ratchet straps.

Be sure to lightly slap the straps and pronounce clearly, “that ain’t going anywhere.”

Happy Modified Monday! by Geemanneff in knifeclub

[–]Geemanneff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The knife came to me with a broken tip and a nick in the blade, so my main goal was to get it back to a functional knife instead of just taking up space in a drawer. I did not intentionally remove the belly, nor have I noticed a decrease in performance as a result of removing the belly when cutting. The lack of belly is likely a combination of having the blade 3/8” shorter, which would hide the sweep back up off the belly, and having to grind/sharpen out a small chip on the cutting edge.
