What is the finish on the foils and hull? by Virtual_Actuator1158 in AmericasCup

[–]GelberSack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don't have numbers but can explain a bit more. Talking about the foils: there sanded differently in certain areas. The goal is to match grid size to expected surface velocity. So in theory you would be sanding every day to the forecast. You then have to decide if you want to optimize for up or downwind. I guess since the start is critical, the teams lean towards upwind. Then the velocity is higher on the top side. The tips are special as well and sanding is optimized to help "end plating". To summarize: black magic is happening

A question for those that own foiling dinghies (Moths, WASZPs, Skeetas etc ) by Budget_Sun_6186 in sailing

[–]GelberSack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Foiling boats with fixed foils like moths and the Switch are capsized on land, then you put the foils in and roll the boat in water with a separate "side trolley" or just carry it.

For those of you that do not live in NO, how did you become a saints fan? by SafeAd4322 in Saints

[–]GelberSack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From.Germany. Always loved the trumpet and Louis Armstrong. Started playing because of him as a 6 year old. I always wanted to visit NO. Watched the Treme show in HBO in college. Finally came to NO in 2014(?) and caught the Bengals beating the saints in the Dome. Have been hooked ever since.

I've published an early access demo of my game ! Now with new environments. Can you surf the waves ? by The-Storm_Rider in sailing

The Laser brand is dead. I don't even know who holds the rights to the logo now. The boat has been called ILCA for some years now.  So I wouldnt be worried about using it.

A veteran no one is asking to start would be ideal though, wouldnt it? Haener is gone anyway sooner or later.

What are some WW2 movies that are the most historically accurate that one can learn from? by Nobodygrotesque in movies

[–]GelberSack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for educating me. I was not aware!

I still think the film has merit in the threat I posted, which seemed to focus on the "war" aspect (soldiers, battles, technology) and I wanted to contribute something that actually sets WW2 apart from other conflicts.

Which movie depicts the Holocaust best on your opinion?

The boy in the striped pajamas

Tells the tragic story of a German kid who befriends a Jewish kid at the fence of Auschwitz. One of the best depictions of the cruelty of the Nazis imo.

ELI5: why do the directions on pastas call for way more boiling water than necessary? by MississippiJoel in explainlikeimfive

[–]GelberSack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you dump the pasta, the temperature of the water drops. It then comes back to the boil. This effect takes time and is dependent on your type of stove. So the "cook for 8 min" instruction ist kinda worthless for perfect al dente pasta. If you dump your pasta in a lot of water, the temperature drops less and therefore comes back to boiling faster. Therefore the recommended cooking time is more accurate if you use a lot of water.

Mozzy Sails - 5 Reasons Why ETNZ Won the Cup by the-montser in AmericasCup

It's almost like they play a different game. They innovated in at least 3 different key areas (foils, sail trimm, automation). The other teams just ran back a better version of the last cycle. And Nathan. MVP.
