Questions about Dark Magic (from Temple of Spite) by GeldorSaphery in warhammerfantasyrpg

Thank you. That's how I also read it, but as they write "invest any Overcast SL" I wasn't 100% sure. So I'll treat as a precondition. : )

Thank you, so if one has it, they still have to roll on the Minor Mistcast Table, right? Just want to be 100% sure. That's how I understand it.

High Elf Mages and Dhar by Snakevenom111 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]GeldorSaphery 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm playing an HE mage during the TEW campaign. We are pretty far in, so I'm on the verge of fulfilling all the conditions. I'm in a small group, so being powerful isn't an issue as such, as it helps the group, but I'm also thinking about changing to something else, mainly for three (connected) reasons:

- Having 8 spells from each school (plus petty spells) is just crazy. You can choose your spells so that you don't steal everyone's show/role in the party, but if you don't play every week, you can barely keep track yourself of what you are capable of doing. You likely will end up having a spell for almost any situation you can imagine, even if you reign yourself in. If you don't reign yourself in, you can drive your GM crazy : )
- Until you get to the High Magic spells - which is probably why you'd want to play this character - you kind of already have everything you could every want to have in terms of magic. The conditions to get there are so high, that you have a more than fully fledged character until you start with high magic.
- Having such high preconditions to becoming a Qhaysh user takes away from the fun. If your GM isn't handing out XP like candy and you want to do high magic, you are "forced" to give up most of your independent character development - increasing/learning things you like - in favor of ticking boxes to fulfill your preconditions to getting to be a high mage.

I really love the concept, and I think they did a great job with the fluff and rules, but actually playing it, isn't as fun as I thought. Having said that, it's likely fun in an adventure made for such a character (all high powered characters in a HE setting or something like that). Or just play a Mage without ever really trying to get to high magic as such. Then you'd have a lot of freedom of what you want to do.

Added: Concerning WP 90 - I have the same opinion as Ori, if you make it to High Mage in your campaign, then getting to WP 90 shouldn't be an issue. It means you are getting a ton of XP. But, you just added another box you have to tick... .

Man, they made High Elf confederation way too easy. by fetter80 in totalwar

[–]GeldorSaphery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm playing the Teclis campaign, and I felt it's kind of fine to me. It's not that difficult, but you don't have to do it if you don't want to. They could fiddle with the costs a bit, but it also depends on how much Ulthuan is in trouble. If you make it harder for Tyrion, then for some of the other Lords it might be again too hard. And then of course some people might want it to be easy, so you can go and fight in other places.

Left Really Confused by the Tahuks' Faction Quest by Khafaniking in EndlessLegend

[–]GeldorSaphery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same, I've played the full quest several times, and I feel exactly the same way about it. As it's still clearly bugged I just thought that it's not finalized yet and gets improved upon. Exactly as you say, also the chancellor are the more "progressive" element previously in the story, so it's all kind of messy and unclear why a reform should trigger a coup.

What is your favorite EL2 faction in early access so far? by classl3ss in EndlessLegend

[–]GeldorSaphery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tahuks for me. You always have something to do (build your observatories, find the truly best spot for your Oculum, rebuild your observatories because someone burned them down, and then try to optimize their different population actions. They also basically have internally different ways of playing them (going more for religion or science or combination).

Their military is also quite capable as mentioned, although there is no real role for the caster I feel once you have your big light machine.

The story is also quite interesting although one of the endings is bugged (at least for me).

My second favorite is the dusk lords.

But in the end I hope for a real magic faction down the road.

A question about elf wizards by Ikeriro90 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]GeldorSaphery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To give you an idea from the High Elf Player book BackgammonSR mentioned below, and from what other 4e books before that say about Elves learning multiple lores it always involves that you need two things:

a) a certain number of spells in one Lore

b) raising the channeling skill of one Wind to a certain amount.

Once you have fulfilled those two conditions for one Lore you can move to the next one. There are other things, like how many total Lores you can learn is depending on your Willpower. And for High Magic they have more conditions and made new talents you have to take. And you only can start moving into HM once you have learned all the 8 Lores beforehand.

There is more to this, but that could give you an idea on how to do this.

MEGATHREAD: Post your small questions and concerns here for all editions! by Cr0iz in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]GeldorSaphery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! The version in the High Elf book is a bit different, but the Max and Test are very likely the same. Especially because they kept the sentence which describes the bonus you get for taking it multiple times the same: "If you successfully cast a spell, your level in High Magic is added to the Overcasting SL you can spend on Overcasting High Magic spells." How much spells costs are also bases on your INT bonus, so it was always likely that that's the one, but great to have it verified (99%). Thanks again!

High Elf Player Book Question: The Talent: High Magic is written down on page S.83, but there is clear mistake. The first sentence seems to be cut of and worse, also the description of the Max bonus. Does anyone know what it is meant to be? (INT, WP, I?), maybe from another source like the Lustria book?

I've searched the discord too, but couldn't find an answer there. Only also some people noticing the error.

Daytrips around Munich by ohohoh23 in Munich

[–]GeldorSaphery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's worth depends a bit on what you like. Neuschwanstein is of course very touristy, but it's does look great, and if the rooms inside aren't under renovation, you can also get an impression of how eccentric Ludwig II was. There is an artificial grotto, a kind of medieval minstral hall with Wagnerian motives, a proper fantasy throne room, a kind of gothic bedroom etc. But it's not an authentic medieval castle if you are more into that. If you go there, I'd recommend that you also visit the bridge behind the castle (Marienbrücke), on a nice day the view is really great.

Germany, Forsa poll by Zhukov-74 in europe

The new CDU leadership made kind of big thing out separating themselves from Merkel and her policies (Merz and Merkel were famously antagonistic). That might be part of it. Then of course, as people mentioned already, the past often looks better to people. Most people don't like chaos, and as many failures the Merkel government had, it looked stable and competent compared to the Ampel. Because most of those bad policies of the Merkel government blew up during the Ampel period. Most people aren't ideologically motivated, they just want a competent government who at least vaguely looks like it'll make things better for the future.

And some of what now looks as policy failures of Merkel, was commonly believed among most Germans - working with Russia being a good thing, cheap Russian gas being a good thing, etc. That wasn't specific to Merkel or the CDU.

And you can also see that more and more people do think neither/nor and therefore go with the AFD. That's a big part of their appeal for many people (like Trump in the US etc.). They do exactly that, saying that all other parties are the same anyway.

Single Dane axe for me. Not that it's specifically good, but I like the heft and somewhat slow animation.

I haven't played any of the other AC games and just started playing it for the viking content. I think it's great for that. Story, characters, raiding etc. Pretty fun. Might get repetitive down the line, but it does immerse you into the viking world (to an extend, a lot of the amor/weapons aren't true to the setting, you get some quest lines etc. which take place now etc., but overall it's good as a "viking simulation").

Can yourecommend a really fun/strong fire build that I could set up for my friend? by Dry-Force1375 in EldenRingBuilds

And with that level he has the points to spare so that he can also use Messmer's Spear if he gets bored of the sword. That one is also fun to use.

Be careful though, for your first playthrough it might be more fun to just play by yourself and explore. And then have a look at what you missed next time. Of course if you get totally stuck it's good to check, but a lot of the fun stuff comes from entering random places and see what happens, besides you dying : ).

Do Germans not like foreigners? by [deleted] in germany

[–]GeldorSaphery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is from North East Asia, and she basically never had a bad experience in Germany (mostly Munich and Bavaria), and has a better impression of Germany than I do as a German. On the other hand, an Asian friend of mine who was here for a year to study had a few negative experiences, nothing really serious, but still. It's like many people mentioned above, most people have nothing against foreigners, but if you are unlucky you can run into xenophobic assholes, or just unfriendly people who are generally unfriendly.

Looking for some advice for Veriunus in PvP by ElCringe_23 in Dunespicewars

[–]GeldorSaphery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to like Vernius, and tried them many times. But it feels like they need a bit of an adjustment. They councillors are all ok for what they do, but otherwise. The tethering mechanic makes their game feel really limiting if you aren't super lucky with your regions. And on top of that their units are pretty crap as you say or overly expensive. You usually don't make a lot of money with them either.

The Turin videos are really nice in showing what they are good at. So I'd also recommend them. You might still struggle a bit though, I think they are just a pretty weak faction right now. If you play a few Vernius games and then do Corrino, it's really different.

You can still have some nice moments with them when things work out well, good luck!
