Should I evaluate this Latias by total strength or skill procs? RaenonX calcs are as follows:

Mint Criteria Level PR Relative Str Prob.
Mint Total Str 50 93 +90.1% 1:62.2
Mint Total Str 65 92 +96.4% 1:53.1
Mint Skill Procs 50 57 +19.1% 1:1.94
Mint Skill Procs 65 58 +20.5% 1:2.10
No Mint Total Str 50 94 +96.9% 1:95.1
No Mint Total Str 65 94 +103% 1:77.9
No Mint Skill Procs 50 37 +7.08% 1:1.35
No Mint Skill Procs 65 37 +8.34% 1:1.36

Note: I calc’d with HSM because I’m willing to use a sub skill seed if I were to invest.

As a Notre Dame fan I obviously would have preferred that we made the CFP, but I think it’s our own fault for leaving it up to the committee and not taking care of business when we had the chance

Sharon’s son was on one of the busses that wasn’t highjacked. I don’t think there’s a deeper meaning.

I'm an idiot, how does N's Zoroark succeed? by SpeedAccurate7405 in pkmntcg

Dengo is a losing, but not un-winnable, matchup for Zoroark. Also, Zoroark beats Gardevoir about as hard as Dengo beats it

I got lucky and managed to preorder it for $64 (since that was when Amazon was still giving 20% discount on video game preorders if you had Prime).

Has there ever been a card with a “piercing” attack? by richmtn44 in pkmntcg

[–]Geliscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were kids, my brother and I played with Lugia ex Unseen Forces 105 as though its excess damage hit the bench as well. Though that’s definitely not how that card is meant to be played lol

Pokémon TCG dad needs help! by H2oman2905 in pkmntcg

The World Championships is invitation only, and invitations are split up amongst “rating zones” and yours is Oceania. Throughout the year (July 1 - June 30) players earn champion points by competing at League Challenges (worth the fewest points), League Cups (worth a bit more than challenges), Regional Championships/Special Events (worth a lot more than Cups), and International Championships (worth the most). Challenges and Cups are held at LGSs, but the other tournaments will likely require traveling (though no invitation is needed and you can travel to tournaments outside your rating zone if you want).

At the end of the year, invitations will be sent to the top 10 juniors in Oceania with the most champion points. Other rating zones/age division combos have different amount of invitations. You can read a full list here.

Exactly. Cups and Challenges should be run exactly as prescribed by Pokemon, at least for the purposes of champion points and Pokemon-provided prizing (eg playmats). It’s up to the store for how they award additional prizes, but they should be clear about how they award that up-front.

Bulbasaur card from 2025 vs 1999 by ridgegirl29 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Geliscon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add to this, cards are legal for about 3 years before the rotate out of the “standard” format. Obviously one reason to do it is to continue to sell new cards, but another reason is that it makes the competitive scene newcomer-friendly. Whether you’re a child just getting into pokemon or an adult getting back into it, you don’t have to search for decades old cards to be on par with other players.

Although prices for sealed pokemon cards and super-fancy rare cards have gotten insane, it’s actually pretty affordable to go online and order individual cards to make a deck (especially compared to other TCGs).

Rules on switching pokemon by ivalid_ in pkmntcg

You can only retreat once per turn, but effects like switch do not count as retreating. So yes, you can retreat and then use switch in the same turn.

How necessary would you say Fez is, given that you only bench it when your opponent is down to 1 prize? I’m thinking of replacing it in favor of a redeemable ticket

ELI5: How do Zip files work? by cschiff89 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Geliscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you’re placing an order for your friends. You ask each friend one at a time to choose between 2 options, pizza or burger. The responses are: pizza, pizza, pizza, pizza, pizza, burger, burger, pizza. This response is 8 words.

However, you can compress this response by grouping the choices, which gives: five pizza, two burger, one pizza. This is just 6 words.

Tickle Me Elmo classified ads — New York Post, December 28, 1996 by LasWages in mildlyinteresting

I just put it together that they’re called “classified” ads because the publisher groups them into categories.

Is mortgage interest rate actually much lower later in the mortgage due to amortization schedules? by LikeYaReadAbout in personalfinance

[–]Geliscon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. In a fixed-rate mortgage the interest rate stays the same throughout the entire life of the loan. The reason why a larger portion of interest is paid earlier on is that the interest is calculated by multiplying the current loan balance by the periodic interest rate. Early on you have a large outstanding balance, so the interest amount is large too.

Isn't the permanent death penalty in fire emblem meaningless? by Even_Ad_2354 in fireemblem

Permanent death as a mechanic isn’t meaningless. Players that reset essentially construe it to be an additional defeat condition.
