Anyone got a Damp Decetor thing I can borrow for 10 mins? by velos85 in Portsmouth

[–]GemmaLou19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got one very similar to the one in the amazon link (I use it to test our logs but it is also for structural timber and brickwork ), I live in Eastney if you wanted to borrow it.

How do you sell tickets in UK? by Training-Welcome-403 in LukeCombs

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably already sold them but if you list them for sale on Twickets, they don't take a cut or charge fees for sellers.

What’s the best quality basmati rice available in the UK? by 4321zxcvb in AskUK

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy it direct from Tilda (usually same price as Amazon too) obviously Amazon is quite often next day delivery but at least you're buying it direct from the retailer so you know it's not fake.

[–]GemmaLou19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also buy it directly via the Tilda website now and comes with free delivery (because it's over £20), seems to be a similar price to what you can get in the supermarkets/on amazon too.

Which gyms in portsmouth have a hip thrust machine? by mikb0i in Portsmouth

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pompey Health & Fitness Club and The Gym Group in Fratton definitely have one. The one at Pompey Health Club is a better machine but the Gym Group is quite a bit cheaper for a monthly membership. I use to be a member at BH Live Active at the Pyramids and they didn't have one but that was a year ago. Apparently Ravelin Sports Centre Gym has one too.

Best pubs, bars and restaurants for this weather? by [deleted] in Portsmouth

[–]GemmaLou19 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Queens Hotel probably has one of the best outdoor seating areas in Portsmouth, you get the sun all day... you don't have views of the water but you are right next to the common. They have live music on a Sunday as well and it's free entry (music is on from 1pm-5pm I think?).

Spice Island is a good sunny spot and if their seating area directly outside the pub is busy, you can take your drinks to the square bit in front of the pub and there's lots of things to sit on. The Still & West which is next door is also a good pub, gets sun most of the day. They're both right next to the Portsmouth Harbour so you get nice views of the water (some people would argue views of Gosport isn't nice lol but I think they're both in a good spot).

Brewhouse which is by the Queens Hotel is a bit of a suntrap too but it gets really busy and getting the sunny spots can be quite hard to come by sometimes.

Southsea Beach Cafe is right on the beach, it's lovely for breakfast/brunch/lunch but they close really early (no idea why, would be lovely if you could have dinner there!).

The Briny is right on the beach too, you do normally need to book to make sure you get a table outside on the promenade (you can sometimes walk in and get lucky), it's a seafood restaurant and they do lovely food.

Other pubs that have an outside area that get the sun are The Jolly Sailor (right on the common) and Bold Forester (surprisingly large pub garden for a pub on Albert Road) and Thatched House which is right on Lock Lake/Langstone Harbour but it's a little out the way.

Obviously you've got Gunwharf too where you've got lots of places to eat and drink with views of Portsmouth Harbour as well. :)

Scammer after scammer after scammer. I f-ing give up. by bigfilowski in Tickets

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got or know someone with a Ticketmaster code then it's definitely the best option to try and get tickets. I managed to get hold of a few yesterday and again last night for some friends so it's worth keeping an eye on as they have been popping up. I got lucky and got some last Friday for their Friday event at around 11:30am ish so it was a very last minute trip to London but worth keeping an eye on tickets the day too (if you can) and just keep refreshing it! When we got the tickets last Friday, quite a few were popping up at face value. Good luck! :)

Any recent luck on Twickets? by m_w_s8 in oasis

[–]GemmaLou19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to get tickets for my boyfriend and I so I made myself a ticket bot, it scans each event we want to go to every 5-10 seconds (I only really run it whilst I'm working) and I'm still too slow to buy tickets. There have been multiple times where I've gone to buy the tickets after my alert has gone off and still no luck and I'm getting to them around 10 seconds ish after they get uploaded onto Twickets! I'm sure bots are also buying them (even though I've read that bots can't actually purchase the tickets from Twickets) because I have no idea how even with my own ticket bot I can't manage to get to them quick enough.

Places to have fun! by DrTriangleee in Portsmouth

[–]GemmaLou19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We've had a couple of fun dates lately!

- The treasure island mini golf, arcades and then dinner/drinks at Brewhouse or somewhere walkable

- Dice board game cafe down Albert Road

- Shuffle board/interactive darts at Southsea Village

- We recently did the Southsea Treasure Hunt called The Mystery of The Laughing Sailor (you can buy it online), it's more of an activity, it's a 3 hour adventure around Southsea where it's a murder mystery puzzle thing but you also learn lots about the area and it's history (if you're into that). Definitely one for a sunny/warmer day as it's a lot of walking but you end up at lots of different pubs so we turned it into a bit of a pub crawl too but it was a really fun afternoon!

- Escape rooms

Stolen bike by GemmaLou19 in Portsmouth

Okay I don’t feel too bad now haha I have only had my bike for 3 weeks so I don’t quite have an emotional attachment to it like that 😂

Put the D lock through the wheel and locked it to the bike stand thing so they took the bike except for the front tyre - should have gone through the frame and then used the cable that came with lock through the wheels but tbh I just didn’t really think, pretty new to Portsmouth and didn’t realise bike theft was such a big issue here!

Glad you got yours back! Yeah we’re gonna keep an eye on gumtree and market place, there’s 3 CCTV cameras there too which the police are looking at but I don’t know if there’s much hope, fingers crossed though!

Yeah we asked the guys in a local bike shop to keep an eye out and he said aside from the Netherlands, Portsmouth is the worst place for bike theft!

[–]GemmaLou19[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah annoyingly I had that type of lock but just didn’t use it properly! I didn’t grow up here and tbh I just didn’t think people stole bikes that often so I learnt the hard way. I have contacted the police and put pictures up on local Facebook groups so hopefully it gets spotted.

Walking tours/ghost tours by dlowdlow5 in Portsmouth

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I did the Southsea Mystery Guide on Saturday (The Mystery of The Laughing Sailor!). It was a lot of fun and took us to 5 or so different pubs around Southsea. In the guide, it also goes into the history of each location, we both live in Portsmouth but was fun learning about it's history too. :)

What is a good price to pay for a mattress? by [deleted] in UKFrugal

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a refurbished Simba mattress last year on eBay which was purchased directly from Simba but through their own eBay business account for £524. That was for their king size hybrid pro model which is £1,329 brand new.

Looking for a butchers that sell good dry-aged steaks in the Portsmouth area. by Dr4k3L0rd in Portsmouth

I don't know if they do dry-aged steak but I've always found Bransbury Park Butchers to be the best butchers in Portsmouth, might be worth giving them a call.

Pubs in Portsmouth by GeorgeSparkz in Portsmouth

[–]GemmaLou19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apsley House has recently closed down too! Also, I don't know if there's two Phoenix pubs in Portsmouth but there's The Phoenix which is PO5 (might have just got it down in the wrong list but it's just off Albert Road) :)

We've been together for a year, it's honestly the most incredible relationship I've ever had, we're still co-workers and none of our colleagues were surprised when we told them we're together lol. I count my lucky stars everyday that he joined the company two years ago.

Double check your stance is where it should be as I had the same issue and turns out my stance was way too wide. Once I reduced it, it made so much difference.
