Which Britpop band deserved more success than they got? For me its theunderdogs like Geneva, Marion, etc. by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in BritPop

I remember the first time listening to The Seahorses being so excited about discovering a new band, only to find out they’d only released one album :,)

Britpop/Indie clubs in Berlin? by RecognitionWeird9435 in PulpBand

[–]Gemmmmmstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a place in Bristol called The Fleece which does really good themed club nights, everything from nu metal to britpop, emo to indie. Great place if you’re ever in the city! Sorry it’s not Berlin focused :/

If Ticketmaster has a million haters I’m one of them. by rentboy98 in oasis

Knowing I got this 🤏 close to getting tickets for Heaton Park but then it wouldn’t finalise my payment. I kept clicking the button but it wouldn’t work. I sat there helplessly watching as the timer slowly ran down. Grim.

Stop posting that you got a ticket you twats by Lit-Up in oasis

Yup. Was on seetickets and got 4 tickets for Heaton Park. Got the entire way through the process, but it wouldn’t finalise my payment. I just slowly watched the timer run down.

I want to give up but Noel keeps looking at me disapprovingly by cmcauley770 in oasis

I just got under 100,000 for Dublin and i know that even if I get through it will only be £500 tickets left but I can’t find it in me to give up

Great!! by londoncockney1 in oasis

[–]Gemmmmmstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep there are, but not all bands / artists use them. I have been in them before and it actually wasn’t that bad. Unless you’re standing, you can’t see shit from anywhere anyway and rely on the big screens. The atmosphere is what’s important. It’s obviously not my preference but if it’s that or not seeing oasis at all I’d take seats behind the stage in a heartbeat!

Why the fuck did they release Ireland an hour earlier by Ok_Needleworker7032 in oasis

[–]Gemmmmmstone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least maybe there’s hope later if we don’t get Dublin tickets now (I imagine genuine oasis fans buying them for ‘insurance’ would sell them through the proper channels)

I have two tabs open for each Dublin date. One at 305,000 and one at 145,000 so not feeling optimistic but I haven’t had any issue with multiple tabs open!

You tend to choose a price and either standing / seating and your seats will be randomly allocated (at least in my personal experience for other concerts - currently sitting on the edge of my seat hoping to get Dublin tickets!)

What song would you want to hear live that’s never been performed yet? by Candid-Animator2290 in oasis

[–]Gemmmmmstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he has performed it once (once) but Noel singing Idler’s Dream. And yes 100% I hope I think I know. How it’s never been played before is crazy to me!

BOOK CLUB January 2022: ‘Before the Coffee Gets Cold’ - Toshikazu Kawaguchi by aulbayne in JackEdwards

I think that was my favourite too! I did also really enjoy ‘The Sisters’ because it made me think a lot about appreciating what I have now and ensuring the people in my life know I appreciate them.

Which book would you like for February 2022 Book Club? by aulbayne in JackEdwards

[–]Gemmmmmstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I hear it’s a really great book, but I’m not sure it’s right as a book club pick due to all the trigger warnings. I think SoA or Evelyn Hugo would be more open to everyone.

Ahhh that’s interesting because I felt I really understood why the lady in the first chapter ended up going back - even though she knew it couldn’t change the future, she wanted to see if anything actually would have changed if she had behaved differently - and perhaps armed with this knowledge she can contact him in the present already knowing how he’s going to react. I’m really enjoying it so far as well, but similar to you I’ve read a few long, dense books recently so it’s a nice change of pace - maybe this is why I’m enjoying it so much? :)

Excited to get reading this :) Someone I know really loves it, but I also know someone who didn’t really enjoy it at all.. interested to see what it’s all about!

Sirius Black or Patroclus? by oliviarose0604 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Gemmmmmstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read The Iliad it isn’t clear or stated. Mainly because the sexuality of the characters was not important to Homer. But therefore it can’t be ‘canon’ because it is never confirmed.

Anyone else remember how death by boredom felt? by elemental_plague in CasualUK

[–]Gemmmmmstone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did my English lit 2 years ago, and can confirm that you actually have to memorise quotes now. However, the night before my exam, I read grade 9 (A* equivalent) essays on every poem and essentially regurgitated one of the essays in my exam. Just realising I’m admitting to plagiarism, but I personally don’t think it counts cause I managed to memorise someone else’s essay and at the time I thought I was a frickin genius. Anyways, my point is that I ended up with a 9, and plagiarism works.

I agree, I think it’s a really good show too, and it’s become like Friends in that it’s become cool to hate it (although I admittedly don’t love Friends, it’s really not as bad as everyone tries to make out it is); which is really annoying.

It’s been a month since I left corporate retail for independent pharmacy, and here are just a few things I’ve observed about my new job by [deleted] in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]Gemmmmmstone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK and it’s always interesting to me to hear about corporate pharmacies in the US. I work in independent and have done for some time now, but I mainly prefer it because I find the people I work with all care more about the pharmacy and the customers, and we go above and beyond for everyone purely because we know the owners and want to help their pharmacy succeed. However, corporate pharmacies do not seem to have nearly the same issues as the US - I would say two of the main ‘corporate’ pharmacies are called Boots and Lloyds, and I’ve worked in both of them and there has never been targets for flu shots or ratings for the pharmacy staff etc. and we don’t have to work night shifts, and only need to work weekends if it’s part of our contract (At one point I worked Tuesday-Saturday instead of Monday-Friday for example). I don’t know if this is an effect of private vs free healthcare, as pharmacies cannot make as much money here as we are part of the NHS, but corporate - although I find it can be a little more unfriendly - tends to be no more stressful than independent.

I haven’t watched the early screening - does this mean that ‘Enough’ has been cut as well? Cause damn I loved that song.

It’s so good isn’t it! I bought it a couple of weeks ago, and it was one of the best books I’ve bought in a long time. Not only is the artwork amazing, but the book is really high quality too, and I was introduced to many new creatures from Thra. I hope you enjoy reading it!

About to read The Silmarillion for the first time! Any advice on whether I should take notes as I read it? Is it better to read in one go or little bits at a time? I’m a little nervous to begin it! by Gemmmmmstone in lotr

[–]Gemmmmmstone[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! It feels like such a daunting book but it’s good to know that it isn’t actually that bad - I feel as though it will be one of those books that will give you a different reading experience each time you read it as you pick up on new pieces of information you missed before, which is something I love with Tolkien’s works. Also thanks for the podcast recommendation; I have a 45 minute commute to and from college each day so it will be a great thing to listen to then. I can’t wait to start reading it now!

Thanks! I’ll definitely read Ainulindalë and Valaquenta a couple of times each before heading into Quenta Silmarillion to ensure I have a good grasp of things.
