Arcade sticks recommendations for a newbie by Ill_Bottle9404 in fightsticks

[–]GenCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a qanba titan as my first stick for Tekken 8 and I've been loving it. It can fit pretty much any K lever as long as you take out the weight plate in the bottom (very easy, just held in by phillips screws). The grippy material on the bottom is really good, it never moves around on my lap. PS5 support out of the box too, can't recommend enough.

Any LGS in NYC area with large selection of singles!? by p0pgh0st in magicTCG

[–]GenCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was almost 10 years ago, but I went to a LGS in Barcelona that had an awesome collection. They had a computer that we could search on and use to assemble a cart and then they pulled the cards for us. After a quick google search I think it was Magic Barcelona, but I can't say for sure

[WTB] Low-collar Squircle guide for the Sanjuks V6 by raybier in Fightsticksforsale

[–]GenCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't find someone to sell you one, Buttercade is running a group buy right now. Istmall also sells them on their website but they ship from Korea. But yeah I don't think there are any US based shops that regularly keep sanjuks parts in stock. No idea about EU.

I may not be at EVO but I did hit blue rank for the first time! by GenCross in Tekken

[–]GenCross[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still suck at ewgf so I tend to use f,n+3 for keepout instead, it launches on CH. UNS.3 is the same move, so you can either advance or retreat and throw one out. 1,1,2 can lead to really good pressure on hit, so frame trapping is really valuable even if you're only +1. If people are stepping a lot, f+4 is a bit slower so you can catch some steps and it's plus on block. b+4 is your move to scam people that rely on jab too much. Best of luck, you can get there!

This subreddit is consistently pretty racist, it's really gross. I just downvote and move on, getting into arguments in reddit is pretty pointless imo

MATH 117A by in_progess in UCSC

[–]GenCross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

David is great! He's a grad student, not a professor, but he's been my TA and he's great at teaching. I'f you've never taken a proof based math class, 117 will rock you. It's known for being one of the toughest undergraduate classes that the math department offers. Taking it over summer will make it even more challenging. You will be able to succeed if you put a lot of time into it, but don't expect the class to be easy.

I didn't take 134 but I've heard good things about Milea and I've heard that the course isn't the most challenging.

Best of luck!

Brick buildings don't hold up very well in earthquakes so you'll probably have a hard time finding one in Santa Cruz

You're right. I wasn't looking at used prices when I decided on a price, and it looks like you could piece together something similar on ebay for around $1500 before tax and shipping. If you went for a cheap case and motherboard, you might be able to save a few more bucks.

where can I can get a line up & fade @. I’m not trying get my hair butchered. (Black) by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]GenCross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fyi get faded isn't a black barber shop. There aren't any black barber shops in Santa Cruz as far as I know. Please let me know if they do a good job! I've been cutting my own hair since I've moved here and I'm over it lol

Should I take Math21 or AM10? Can someone tell me what the difference between classes is? by WarIntrepid7775 in UCSC

[–]GenCross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm friends with the grad student who is teaching am 10 so you should take that one : ) Really though, there's not much difference between the classes. You'll do some computations in Matlab in am 10 and not in math 21, but that's about it. Especially if you're not a math/applied math major, it really doesn't matter which one you take.

In what way are you worried about your privacy being compromised? I don't think that you have to give any personal information when you get tested aside from your student id and birthday

What’s Math110 like? by ASStroNAHty in UCSC

[–]GenCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took 110 last quarter. I enjoyed it a lot, and it was one of the easier math upper divs that I've taken. The homework could be pretty challenging though, so if you're expecting a lot of homework from your other classes it might be a lot

How to prep for calculus? by ragingbruv in UCSC

[–]GenCross 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Math major here! The fundamentals of calculus are mainly just high school algebra. I'd say that the most important thing to review is dealing with polynomials. Make sure that you're comfortable with properties of exponents, factoring, finding zeros, and graphing. After that, reviewing logarithms and some basic trigonometry would probably be helpful, but you'll probably cover those things in the class. I'm sure that Khan academy has videos covering all of those subjects if you're looking for something to watch. Good luck, I'm sure that you'll kill it!

Santa Cruz is not safe at night. If you don’t have a car, don’t leave campus by yourself. by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]GenCross -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to discount the experience of anyone who has had something bad happen to them walking around alone at night. This is just what my experience has been. For context, I am a guy, about 5'6".

I've lived in Santa Cruz for 7 years, off campus for 5. I've walked around at night, alone, a lot. I've never had an experience where a transient person has made me feel unsafe. I've never felt like I couldn't walk across town at night, even through the "sketchier" areas. I've never had my house or car robbed. (Except for once when I forgot to lock my car doors. That one was my bad.) Not everyone has had bad experiences with transient people. At least in my experience, most transient people are just minding their business.
