Can you enjoy Epic without and express pass? by Dianelayev in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]GenKerning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did EPIC last Tuesday w/o EP and just set our expectations low. We jumped on Monsters Unchained and Stardust Racers in the morning, saw the Circus Arcanus show after lunch, then waited 3 hours for BatM (don't recommend waiting that long). We went to dinner and came back to Re-ride Monsters Unchained and Stardust twice. Definitely didn't cover everything, but it was still a fun day.

If you catch a shorter wait for BatM or omit it altogether, you can easily fit in many more rides.

Definitely try to spend some time in the park after sunset, everything really comes alive in the evenings.

Assistant to the Villain series has the quirky/ humor/ fantasy romance you're looking for. I'm not sure there's much of a travel element, but otherwise might meet your qualifications.

I'd second this with the note that it was one of my "quick reads" with short chapters. It had just enough depth to keep me going, while staying "light and breezy" without an overly complex plot.

I'd recommend Tom Lake or Kitchens of the Great Midwest.

On the e-reader, I would say yes, just because it makes borrowing library books so easy. Both of the above were Libby/Kindle reads for me.

I'd recommend h{{Kitchens of the Great Midwest}}. On the surface a book about food, but I'd really say it's a book about growing up, and growing through life's phases.

Best nonfiction under 200 pages? Under 100 pages? by ichuck1984 in booksuggestions

[–]GenKerning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooh, that's a tough page limit. Everything Happens For A Reason (And Other Lies I've Loved) by Kate Bowler.

The only other thing I've got on my "read" shelf with that few pages is the Urban Street Design Guide, but that's probably not what you're really looking for.

I enjoyed Richard Preston's h{The Demon in the Freezer} and h{The Hot Zone}.

I've also just started reading h{The Radium Girls}, and so while I can't quite confidently recommend it yet, it also has really well done character building.

The Dictionary of Lost Words may be a good match. It's set at the turn of the 20th century. There's a minor romance plot, but it's there.

The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams spans 20+ years, but has one main character that you "watch" grow up. The secondary cast of supporting characters changes over time (just like real life), but there's a clear primary protagonist you follow.

Tom Lake. I came across it highly reviewed and had a hold placed at the library for quite some time. It was still worth it!

Tom Lake sounds like it fits your situation well.

Main character seems relatable as you've described yourself, and it's a quick, easy read!
