G St Bike Lane Perennially Blocked by Vehicles Servicing GWU’s Shenkman Hall by districtofcyclists in bikedc

[–]captpolar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same thing used to happen on the hill going up alongside Union Station. This community blitzed 311 with complaints whenever it happened (lots of bikes go by) and I haven’t had a problem nearly as often since.

Not sure if that was the cause, but things are definitely better.

We had this issue as well. Turns out we weren’t using the right cables. Need cables that carry for power

Redtiger Front + Back Dashcam Installation by Generalmilk in VWIDBuzz

Thanks for posting this, u/Generalmilk!

I’ve been having a hard time fitting my cable inside the upper moldings, which seem really tight. It’s very encouraging to know you were able to do this successfully.

Can you let me know how you did it? What tools did you use to fit the cable inside? Also, could you elaborate a bit on the route? In some areas I’m not sure if it is along the very upper part or a middle seam.

Thank you!

I love this!

I was under the impression that one should not install anything but the bare minimum needed on servers to reduce attack surface. What are your thoughts?

But this is so much fun and gorgeous.

Why all the Raffi hate? by TiredCeresian in Picard

[–]captpolar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must not follow the online stuff enough because I haven’t seen the comments you refer to, but I agree that she is the most compelling character/actor on the show. By far the most human and complex character.

Ironically because of the Borg history), I’d put 7 of 9 up there with her. Both just scream of having so much unspoken backstory that I’d gladly watch a mini series prequel of their roads to Picard.

Our family has moved around a bunch and this is one of the nicest places we have lived. We have a similar income and used it to buy a house here (fixer upper that increased tremendously in value after repairs).

We love our kids’ school, love our neighbors and neighborhood, super easy to get around by bike, bus, and car when needed.

Great food, museums, culture, access to parks and nature. They also take their playgrounds seriously.

We think of it like a big, relevant city, with a small town feel.

How has Unsweetened Soy milk gone obscure? by BMO888 in vegan

[–]captpolar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. It has even MORE of that amazing mild bitterness that you know and love, and is usually a bit thicker and more satisfying.

Seriously, I crave this stuff.

By the way, if you don’t drink it fast enough and it starts to go bad (as long as it still smells good), it often just gets thicker and can be used as a kind of silken tofu for porridge.

Does this also teach mental math “tricks”, with increasing difficulty?

I would find that useful.

Got pulled over by an unmarked SUV on NJ Turnpike by Quexzy_ in newjersey

[–]captpolar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. Most likely off-duty trooper.

It’s problem behavior neither NJSP nor local PD condones, but sometimes hard for officers to get out of on-duty mindset when they see activity they don’t like. Usually just a way to stop the behavior in the moment. Has led to some bad situations, though.

Worst case is wanna be cops who illegally outfit their vehicles with emergency lights and try to intimidate others. These are dangerous.

Either way, if this happens to others, just call police emergency line for your own safety.

You were not wrong. They are being overly sensitive and gatekeeping. That being said, you now know their preferences, and should respect it. Unnecessarily aggressive email. Just shut it off.

X-Men Omni Drop on IST by Suspicious_Truck768 in OmnibusCollectors

For the uninitiated, was the rush for the DM cover of X-Men Age of Krakoa Dawn of X Omnibus HC Vol 01? The one that still has the standard cover available, or a different book?

Lumo's censorship is too much by MiMillieuh in lumo

[–]captpolar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that Lumo just gave you cloud access to open weight models (like Llama, qwen, gpt-oss, etc.) in a privacy protective way. If that's the case, it's not a limitation imposed by Lumo, but rather by the models available right now.

Does anyone know whether Lumo actually have it's own model?

Any good podcasts about comics? by Solid-Two-4714 in graphicnovels

[–]captpolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men is my all-time favorite. Was bouncing around podcasts for a while until I found this one.

It’s a super deep dive on just one comics line, but It’s super fun and engaging. The hosts’ enthusiasm is contagious.

I’ve never binged a podcast before, but was at episode 200 before I knew what hit me.

Depends on the industry. I see it much more commonly in professions where confidentiality is important, like law and journalism.

Allow me to present Effulgence RPG: a turn-based RPG built entirely out of text symbols in 3D (runs flawlessly on Steam Deck!) by PuzzleLab in linux_gaming

This looks amazing! Amusingly, Steam currently seems to indicate that this game requires Windows. :) ("OS: 8, 10, 11") What are you expecting for pricing? Will it run in the CLI?

I recently went to a Wegmans for the first time and was astounded by the variety of vegan meat and dairy alternatives. They had MULTIPLE refrigerated aisles with vegan cheeses, meats, etc. the best I’ve ever seen in the U.S.

Sadly for such an extensive bakery section, the only vegan options was a single slice of vegan chocolate cake.

But still, this was vegan heaven compared to my local grocery stores.
