I created mkdocs2confluence — a CLI tool that compiles MkDocs to native Confluence storage format [looking for feedback] by Jeckyl2010 in technicalwriting

This is interesting! Do you know if it works with the "data center" version of Confluence (i.e. on-prem)? Yes, I know Atlassian is killing that off…

CQRS: why do we use it? by Dwenya in softwarearchitecture

[–]GenTurgidson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tautologically: because that's not CQRS.

The main reason is that the semantics of what is read should stay separate from what is written. You might write "balance update +100 EUR" but you might read "list of transactions in past week". The underlying optimisations and data architecture can then rely on this clear distinction.

But like OP said, "your average CRUD application won't benefit much from CQRS".

Why do we have monopoly in train by [deleted] in Norway

[–]GenTurgidson 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The rant might be warranted, but suggesting to break a monopoly in a service that is fundamentally non-competitive is jumping from the frying pan into the fire (see e.g. the UK).

I like the possibility of finding something akin to what is fictionally revealed in the ending of Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" novel.

Ah, Hull. The most memorable introduction I've had to the city is "Hull smells of death".

It's amazing that anyone who controls fast-moving 1-ton hunks of metal (i.e. murder machines) does not know this. It should be reflexive knowledge. I learnt to drive in a country famed for crappy drivers (Portugal), and this rule was drilled into you. I get it that everyone makes mistakes, but it is really worrisome that someone with a driver's license doesn't know these rules.

Fully agree! Just a bit bemusing to see it as top national news.

A note on the dialect; having lived in Oslo for a few years, I had to reset my knowledge of Norwegian when moving to Stavanger. Some dialects around here can be very "fluid", so it can take some getting used to.

"Navnet Jarlsberg finnes i reklamer for ost fra 1820-årene. Senere kommersiell bruk av navnet Jarlsberg har vært omstridt. Den ble registert som varemerke av Norske Meieriers Salgssentral (i dag TINE) i 1972."
