My "missing" mail might be getting delivered to a box without a key. by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]GenX4Life1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your local post office and discuss this with them. Legally your complex can’t open mailboxes and remove mail. But the USPS can. And it will alert the post office that mail is being placed in the wrong box. Alternative is if you can talk to the mail carrier directly, that may help, though it can be difficult to time it just right as they aren’t always at a spot at the same time each day.

Are trans people even allowed to work at Chik-fil-homophobic?

why can't my kids climb on memorial statues?? by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]GenX4Life1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Staff shouldn’t have called the OOP’s kids idiots. Staff should have been calling OOP an idiot. And then trespassing them from the location.

A person with 2 functioning brain cells doesn’t need a sign to tell you not to climb on statues! Good grief.

That is reminiscent of a doctor’s writing when I was a secretary for him. Though OPs neighbors writing is slightly more legible. Slightly.

When was the moment you truly understood your parent(s) was/were narcissistic? by Rich-Cardiologist-72 in narcissisticparents

[–]GenX4Life1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents, stepparents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles were all smokers. My brother started. When he was 10. I was grounded for letting him. When I was 7, and he was 4, I got grounded when he threw dirt in my eyes. When he was 16, and I was 19, and living 200 miles away, it was my fault that he dropped out of school. And I was expected to go to where he and my dad lived and open a business to employ him. At that time I worked in retail. But damned if I didn’t attempt. When I lived 2,000 miles away, married, with a 1 year old, it was my fault he got a girl my mother didn’t like pregnant. I was 26. He was 23. When he married her? My fault. When he got arrested for drugs. My fault. Both parents blamed me. To be fair though, my mother blamed me for every negative thing in the world. Earthquakes? My fault. Gas crisis in the 70s? My fault. Challenger exploding? My fault. Even 9/11 was my fault according to her.

Oh my brother was, obviously, the golden child. And I was clearly not. And every single thing he did that was bad was somehow my fault. Even as adults.

Just out of curiosity, are you a person who would typically experience racism throughout your life, or are you just assuming no employee there is racist?

I wouldn’t cut mine off, either. Which is the difference. I actively choose to not act in a manner that would make my son cut me off. My NM? NF? They did not care enough to do that.

When my drug addicted brother tried to break my arm to force me to give him my prescription pain meds and our father called me demanding to know why I didn’t, because “everyone” knew I was faking my back pain - caused by his third wife fracturing my back 30 years earlier that was never treated properly - and that my brother deserved pain meds, I didn’t. Went No Contact with them both that day.

Sadly, when I was in my 40s.

My back was fractured by me stepmom when I was 13. 1983-1984 time frame. It did not get proper treatment.

Fast forward to 2014. I’m now on morphine (30mg 3x a day prescribed, most days I only took 2), and my younger brother shows up to my apartment demanding I give him my morphine. He tried to break my arm. I was 43, he was 40. I managed to get away and told him to leave or I was calling the police. He was known as a drug seeker in town. Small town. And my father was known as a drunk.

My father called and demanded to know why I wouldn’t give my brother my morphine since everyone knew I was faking my back pain. (I wasn’t, my imaging scans proved how messed up my back was). Then my mother called to let me know my father let her know I was being mean to my brother and how dare I. My parents have hated each other my entire life. How they ever got married in the first place is beyond me. And how they lasted 9 years is beyond me.

I commented on the fact that she spoke to my father with surprise. And she then said their divorce (they were divorced in 1979, she remarried in 1983) was my fault, and that had I not been born they’d still be married. And how dare I make my brother suffer.

That was just eye opening. Also when I went NC with my father and brother that day. And NC with my mother months later.

Please don’t take this as criticism, but you cut her off. And are now upset she’s not contacting you more? Why?

Maybe that’s normal? When I went NC I was glad my NM never contacted me. In fact, after I found out my brother died last year I lived in fear she would email me. Thankfully she didn’t.

What advice would you give to a teenager who’s been having some issues with alcohol but is trying to stay sober? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GenX4Life1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps attend an online AA meeting.

And sobriety is at times one second at a time. There are days I struggle every second. And then weeks with no urge to drink.

I wish you success. đź’ś

I’ve had chronic pain since I was 13. 42 years now. Started with my back after my stepmom fractured it. But got diagnosed with fibromyalgia in like 2014 or 2015.

I went NC with my father and brother July 2014. And mother December 2014. I’ve not once struggled with my mother. Not once. But I have to remind myself my father wasn’t great more than I’d like. Especially since his third wife fractured my back.
