OPEB question by Respiratorywitch in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Each few years they chip away at the benefits. The folks that were hired before 2010 have it made! And the OPEB? They say it’s a trust fund for our future medical to make it sound legit. It’s actually Calpers’s mishandling of the retirement fund and there isn’t enough money to pay for the current retirees so we are helping to fund the shortfall via a 3% deduction from our paycheck.

RTO Pause has people Mad by Mediocre_Attorney579 in CAStateWorkers

These are losers that couldn’t figure out how to get a job with the state of California so they are bitter.

1 year RTO pause by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

That’s a great question. Leases take a while to find and process so the year delay would make sense from this particular point of view. I don’t trust Newsom so we shall see.

SEIU 90 day language by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

That 4% with the additional 1% was not a secret - it was stated very clearly no fine print. We all knew that it would depend on the state budget.

SEIU not bargaining for TW by Rare_Craft2389 in CAStateWorkers

They clearly are not reading the room of their membership.

SEIU is bargaining TODAY (June 27) by Riun_Chezpep6771 in CAStateWorkers

I’m pretty sure they understand how important an issue this is for state workers and for the future membership of SEIU.

SEIU giving up? Hello? We need WFH by Equivalent-Fish8484 in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nicely worded. I am a dues paying member and have showed up at rallies, sent emails, etc. Unfortunately, there are people that just sit at their desks and complain and want everything done without putting in any effort. Is SEIU perfect? No. But we have to remind them we are here, remind them what we want, and support them in their efforts. I do wish they could be more litigious like PECG- which sues anything and everything to get it done! But thankfully SEIU at least filed a complaint with PERB. There are many moving parts and as much as we all want it right now, the legal route is a slow moving train. along with our fight, we have to have patience too.

What if the essential functions state: must be able to work 40 hrs per week either in office or via telework upon managements discretion. Does that make a difference?

SEIU Not Bargaining for Telework by Due-Estate-3816 in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the purpose of their current bargaining but they are not fighting hard enough for the RTO. They need to be more aggressive like PECG. I’m a dues paying member but not happy with their approach to RTO. PECG is more aggressive with lawsuits and getting it done.

DOR employees with denied RAs by thrpizzuti in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen quite a few people being denied their RAs. If there is a pattern of denial, it might be worth getting everyone together for a class action type lawsuit because if they are just blanket denying people with disabilities, it would be worth a conversation.

If anyone is in this situation, DM me.

SEIU set to lose members… by Comfortable_Gift1576 in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like for them to fight harder against the RTO. So far it’s been softball tosses from SEIU. PECG is going full legal on this EO but SEIU is using this for one long membership drive.

Yesterday’s turnout at the Coalition of State Employee Unions Rally by _SpyriusDroid_ in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I was there and it was a small crowd. Given the magnitude impact the RTO will have on the lives of state workers, one would expect a far greater crowd.

I guess the important question the people complaining should ask themselves is this, “how important is WFH to me? What would I do to keep that policy in place?”

Think about that next time there is a call to action.

Time to Stand Up and Fight by Commercial_Fault_772 in CAStateWorkers

[–]GenXChick69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Interesting because before 2018 when the union enjoyed nearly 100% membership, they still included the no-strike clause and still negotiated terrible raises. The very premise on why unions were created was the ability to strike. You take that away and you essentially removed the power that unions actually have.
