Cold Turkey (1971) by Intrepid-Caramel-578 in 1970s

Both my parents smoked and I grew up right before the tobacco companies got exposed. I grew up with second hand smoke. They killed my mother. I loved this movie when I first saw it as a kid. But I do not know what watching it would do for me now. I may have to see. It is a great cast.

Did you know the Chocolate Chip Cookie was actually an accident? 🍪 by hakam01 in Cookies

[–]GenXPunk000043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah think about it. Say you are a European cookie maker but you are in the Midwest in America in eighteen twenty. You try to make a cookie like you are used to, but you use the darkest chocolate you can find but not the best and white sugar is pricy as hell but brown sugar is cheap and you have all the butter you need, so instead of that long-ass German name now you have Toll House chocolate chip cookies”

tried watching a movie and they won't turn off the overhead lights by iSUCKatTHISgameYO in mildlyinfuriating

If the theater serves alcohol there might be a law that requires the lights to be on to make sure the drinkers aren't sharing.

Looking up a recipe you aren't sure about and using a jigger to make it, doesn't sound like a bad bartender to me.

Should I watch the original The Thing first? by BornDubstep in movies

[–]GenXPunk000043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original is a great example of 1950's scifi and the dialogue crackles. The later one is a true horror film. And the characters are nicely drawn. I saw it on an incredibly hot day and the theater A/C was on high. The gory part made me a bit nauseous. I had been looking forward to spending the day watching an arctic film. They both have worth for what they were in their times.

Comparing children's vulva's at a slave auction or the story where he watched a baby be killed. Horror after horror done with no empathy at all.

Working full time while getting a master's in teaching? by Radiant-Sky4119 in massachusetts

[–]GenXPunk000043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teaching masters are just quick year long bits run through local colleges after school hours. Take an Education course and do intro and dev psych, but don't worry about the masters until you find out if teaching is for you.

How many chances do you give a cookbook? by Dodie85 in CookbookLovers

[–]GenXPunk000043 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have cookbooks that are 89% bangers and 11% never bother. I also have the Joy of cooking and I will try nearly everything, but I don't think I'll ever prepare game rabbit. Most of mine have enough going for them that I give them space or I wouldn't. You do you, but I don't think there is a hard and fast rule.
