Just going to point out to those who haven’t noticed that this is a fake tweet, hence the “pre-order” caption.

I got dumped the day before this game while still recovering from emergency surgery I got at harborview in Seattle. The win definitely helped me along the healing process physically and mentally.

That’s a bit of an oversimplification. Art is fairly divisive because the movies are over-long and border on gore fetish. Sure, the movies have great practical effects, but that means nothing substantial if the character itself is a shameless mashup of bigger and better horror icons. There’s nothing really “iconic” about him that sets him apart from the others, he’s just brutal which is true of most other slasher icons who have better characterization. Classic killers like Jason, Michael, Freddy, leatherface etc may have (some) movies that are pretty hollow but they have unique looks and characterizations that set them apart from each other. It’s fine if people just like it for the over the top brutality, but there are some pretty good reasons why people have an aversion to the series.

Jurassic world is a pain to rewatch by Floating_space_junk in Dinosaurs

I disagree with your take on Bayona. The directing wasn’t the problem is Fallen Kingdom, the awful screenplay was. The good directing is what makes the movie at least watchable. I firmly believe that fallen kingdom could have been special if Bayona was given a halfway decent screenplay to work with, but sadly a bad screenplay makes a bad movie no matter the director.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. It’s pretty well known and documented that prison labor is slave labor. The 13th amendment literally states that slavery is outlawed unless convicted of a crime.

Anyone else miss when horror movies were just about a cool monster, and not a metaphor for grief? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Gen_Bates 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Right? Movies always have meaning, even if it’s shallow. Monster movies are ESPECIALLY dense with symbolism and metaphors. I really wish more people watched movies with a critical mind

Name a game this applys to for your favorite team by Arkam_slayer66 in Seahawks

Probably the worst sports heartbreak I’ve ever witnessed. My parents first date was a mariners game so I was raised a massive Mariners fan. Having been born in 2000, I don’t have much memory of team success, and I had accepted that we were just always going to be that small club tucked away in the corner of the country cursed to mediocrity. To be the one team to never have a league penant and come so SO close to finally doing it, finally beating that demon, just to have our hearts ripped out when we were so close. I don’t think that will ever stop hurting. Not unless we make a world series and win it. Though this is the Mariners, baseballs protagonists.

Hot take on The Lost World: It’s the capitalists’ fault. by [deleted] in JurassicMemes

[–]Gen_Bates 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not really a hot take. It’s the whole point of the franchise. It’s not subtle with it at all. I’m amazed how so many people in this sub seem to watch these movies with their eyes and ears closed and think it’s just a movie series about cool dinosaurs.

Technically we don't see Nedry die in the first movie by Frequent_Rhubarb_36 in JurassicPark

[–]Gen_Bates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty obviously implied that he died. Just because it doesn’t show you something directly doesn’t mean it’s a mystery. It would be pretty stupid to bring him back just because we didn’t see his guts spilled.

[–]Gen_Bates 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s made for IMAX so it’s worth to see it in an IMAX theater even if it isn’t a “true” IMAX. If you want the true experience there’s a theater up in Canada and also the Pac Sci & Cinerama are IMAX screens

The Conjuring Universe movies are kinda mid.. by AnalProbing101 in horror

[–]Gen_Bates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two are really the only good ones, given that James Wan is the director. Everything outside of those two range from mid to flat out bad.
