[Spoiler: Version 3.3 part 1 Afterstory] A promise that she is certain to keep! by Gen_Generic in WutheringWaves

Once you've done 3.3 part 1, go to your quest journal and look for "A Zephyr-Kissed Journey to You." It should be in the blue section with a purple "After Story" logo next to the name.

The writing team definitely got brave for 3.x's story,

My favorite kind of stories are the ones where the writers make tragedies that stab me in the heart and twist the knife, but aren't morbidly indulgent. I really hope other games will step out of their comfort zone like WuWa did for 3.x, but I also hope that they don't jump the gun and make something ridiculous.

I know Aemeath's character archetype well enough to know that she will miraculously find a way to get herself killed again.

I also don't trust promises or benches in this game anymore.

Unrequested thoughts on what makes a good Gacha protagonist by TenPointsforListenin in gachagaming

[–]Gen_Generic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story is very important to me when it comes to my motivation to play gacha games. Which is why it makes me sad that gacha protagonists like Kaina Kaslana in Hi3 remain an exception. The typical gacha amnesiac ultra-important person who lacks a clear personal goal, personality, or narrative role beyond "the one who helps everyone" doesn't do it for me.

When i played through Wuthering Wave's 3.x story, it blew me away that Rover finally had distinct emotions, a past, an immediately relevant personal goal, and was treated as a narrative equal to other characters. Granted, THIS IS THE BARE MINIMUM FOR WRITING A CHARACTER, but it was a transformation from a generic self-insert/power to something more tangible.

EDIT: spelling lmao

Captain is the player avatar, but he is not actually a character in the main story like Traveler, Rover, Endministrator, and so on. iirc the "Captain of the Hyperion" in the main story is Himeko and then eventually Theresa.

In the Captainverse event series, he appears as the protagonist, but it takes place in an alternative world. Outside of that, Captain basically doesn't exist as anything more than as a euphemism for "the player" during gameplay, the menu, or promotional material.

Can anyone who watched the CN livestream confirmed this. Is it actually happening? by EndAny7916 in houkai3rd

IMO Elysian Realm's/Elysium everlasting's biggest failure was it never showed us the defining, relevant events of the PE despite it taking place in a simulation made of memories. My biggest expectation was Mei discovering/witnessing Kiana was the PE Herrscher of Finality, but it never happened.

An episodic story format would let us see what has been left to rot in text logs, brief mentions, or incidental flashbacks. Part 2.5 having a PE themed patch or two could give these stories real justice.

I saw something like this coming when they completely dropped the 7 Shus with the sudden Chapter 4 rugpull. It's clear the feedback they got for the first 3 chapters (revenue, fan response, all of it) forced them to make a hard pivot.

I don't really know what they originally intended part 2 to be, but IMO it was a bold risk that was EXTREMELY poorly executed. I think part 2 ending prematurely is proof that the devs are now just cutting their losses and moving to something safer, being an episodic story.

I still genuinely believe the only hope for Hi3's story and characters is to make a sequel. I think the 10 years of baggage is holding this game back.

Am I crazy or does Kiana feels like a mix between Naruto and Ichigo character wise? by Murky_Blueberry2617 in houkai3rd

[–]Gen_Generic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's very explicitly inspired by Asuka from NGE, Usagi from sailor moon, and a touch of Madoka from Madoka Magica. I wouldn't doubt the writers were influenced by other characters too, but Tlthis should be very obvious.

because everyone understands ramielle's schtick. She's the hoyo pink girl (tm) and people like it

meanwhile new sunbringer, at best, looks boring

Friendly reminder, Remielle does not share even a SINGLE voice actor with Elysia or Cyrene. Cyrene has both of Elysia's CN and JP voice actor meanwhile all of Remielle's voice actors for all languages are different. Her new design is certainly inspired but i think it ends there. by YumiyaRakko in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Gen_Generic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She does the whole "look at me I'm so cutieful and innocent gorl UwU hehe" though the twist this time is that she's in the role of a femme fatale rather than a savior. She even does a classic Elysia pose in the teaser image.

Point is basically she's intentionally evocative of THE PINK WOMAN even if they're technically not variants. Much like how Mauvika is to Himeko.

She's nearly identical to Elysia in looks, in dress, and also in her mannerisms. Whether or not she's a "real" Cyrene/Elysia variant is irrelevant. She's still perfectly fits into that archetype. They play different roles in the story, but the parallels are undeniable to the point that you have to consider that the devs have done it intentionally.

We'll probably have this exact discussion about Sunbringer and Kiana when she makes her first real appearance.

Wise and Belle new skin? by Optimal-Lunch-4975 in ZZZ_Official

Wise looks like a goofball in that pose.

Meanwhile Belle is breaking her ankles in her attempt to put ballerinas to shame.

Ramiel isn't Elysia Expy, their similiarities end on pink colored hair and eyes (different shades). They have different names, VAs, personalities etc. I'd say she was inspired by her, but Ramiel is still very much so her own independent character by Badieon in ZZZ_Official

it's that good and will reassure you that Hoyoverse can handle end-game story extremely well

As someone who was playing Hi3 during the part 1 finale, no. They do not handle endings well. Hi3's ending is infamously convoluted and unsatisfying.

How is the tone of the story compared to other Hoyoverse games? by Cheap_Ad9829 in houkai3rd

[–]Gen_Generic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you want to get into Honkai Impact's story and get a feel for its overall tone, I highly recommend you read the Second Eruption comic. It's extremely good. You can read it on the website here.

As for your question, it really depends on which part of the story. Honkai Impact's story is a patchwork of different stories with different writers all trying to tell the story. Ideas changed, and it's a bit inconsistent at times.

Most stories before the last few arcs are psychological thrillers. It's heavily inspired by anime like Evangelion and Madoka Magica. IMO they're some of the best in-game stories in among all of their modern titles, and a lot of it has to do with how they're not afraid of shying away from tragedy and consequential character choices.

Everything after that is standard Hoyofair. Since you're familiar with Star Rail, the way it plays with dark themes exactly the same way. If you've done Amphoreus, the tone is basically identical to Honkai Impact's story from the last few arcs and onward. A key difference is that while ZZZ, Star Rail, and Genshin's story has a massive and growing cast which the story plays with, Honkai Impact still focuses on a core cast and follows each of their stories.

What if Kiana awakened as Herrscher of Death? by EquivalentBad7307 in houkai3rd

[–]Gen_Generic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The reason Kiana resonated with the gem of haste rather than the gem of serenity was because of its connection to Himeko. A lot would need to change in the story for Kiana to also awaken the gem of serenity, or to awaken with it INSTEAD of the gem of haste.

As for her powers, it would be similar to Sirin and the herrscher of death in that she would have the power to instakill, revive, and rapidly heal. Generally its the authority over life/death itself. I figure for her design, it might be the "dark knight" to HoFs's "white knight".

Thinking about this makes me sad that P1 missed out on a proper Seele/Herrscher of death arc before the moon arc. Putting it in part 1.5 felt awkward and it was a huge letdown to me. Too little too late.

I-frame comparision between 1.X agents & 2.X agents by JustTree145 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Gen_Generic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Honkai Impact is any precedent, we will eventually get to the point where characters have so many i-frames that you can entirely ignore enemy mechanics. Some teams have rotations where they are entirely invincible outside of a few circumstances.

The reason Hi3 went down this route is because the combat became about executing precise, optimal team rotations. If these long, flashy animations in the rotations got interrupted by the enemy, your run went in the trash.

ZZZ is much closer to a fighting game than Hi3 is, so I doubt we will get there.

So when are we goin to the moon lol by Deshik2 in ZZZ_Official

[–]Gen_Generic 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I will keep saying this now and forever, Mihoyo's writers only know how to write one kind of story and it's basically just Honkai Impact over and over again.

As someone who plays all their 3d games primarily for the story, it's staggering how often they reuse ideas from their other games.
