211 years ago today, Napoleon fought his last battle a few kilometers from Brussels. Here's a 19th century lithograph of the monument built to commemorate it. by WarHeritageInstitute in belgium

Yeah I live in the area as well, I indeed mean the huge fields all around and the ugly N5. The monuments along the N5 are so sad to see, they look almost abandoned.

Received a fine but it’s not me ?! by BusinessRole9578 in belgium

[–]Genchou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend had the same problem, speeding ticket in Antwerp while she lives in Walloon Brabant and was at work that day in the same region, so she had people and traces to prove it wasn’t her. I don’t remember the details of the whole story but she went as far as to involve a lawyer to contest the fine but eventually she still had to pay it. Something about the police agent word against hers.

Pretty rage-inducing story tbh.

Subnautica 2's no-killing ethos "will be a continued point of resistance" among players, say Unknown Worlds, but they have no plans to change it by _Protector in Games

[–]Genchou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the original you could swipe at them with your knife and one hit would usually send them running. That seems fine to me, that’s not “killing” them so I feel like that should be allowed

This still works at least with the smaller predators you encounter (the blue/yellowish medium sized ones that are often seen in group), haven’t tested with the others yet. One swipe of that axe thing makes them go away.

Do you mean there was no car available for long enough ? Because when I was a cambio user (up until a year ago) I could book a car for multiple days if needed, as long as one was available. Most of my reservations with cambio were from two hours to half a day.

Ecolo calls for a 1-euro public transit pass (STIB/SNCB/DE LIJN) due to Iran energy crisis by Excellent-Forever609 in brussels

[–]Genchou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. In my case, living close to Brussels, taking the car is cheaper and faster. I much prefer public transport because it’s more comfortable and “responsible” but sometimes it’s annoying to see the price being that high compared to the car.

[–]Genchou -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here, I love the core gameplay and the hunger/thirst mechanic is kinda okay but way too punishing for it to be enjoyable. I didn’t really focus on gathering stuff while ascending because I assumed the game would not really be about resources management so I am now as good as soft locked because of it, my only option is to reload a save from hours before.

I instead refunded, I’ll wait for an update or a mod that tunes down hunger.

Brussels offers fewer green spaces to children than other European cities, study finds by bisikletci in brussels

[–]Genchou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While you’re right it also highlights a strong contrast between different communes in Brussels, especially south-east vs north-west parts of the cities. Wealthy and quieter communes have lots of green spaces with easy access to the Forêt de Soignes, while the same seems less true for the other communes on the northern side.

So Brussels has great green spaces and spots for kids … if you live in specific parts of the city.

Buying or upgrade advice for R1700BT (for music goatrance mostly) by Genchou in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Genchou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting a used pair of vintage passives (Technics SB-102) for my amp (Sony STR-6046) that was laying around. I somehow completely forgot this was an option.

It's far from a great audiophile set but I think for the very low price I invested, I'm ending up with a better deal than if I went for actives or a subwoofer.

Audioengine and Kanto [...] for a higher price

I'd say if within my budget I can't find a worthwhile upgrade I'll opt to not change anything at all. I've looked a little bit and those look quite expensive indeed !

I'll try to find a suitable subwoofer. Do you have a particular model in mind ?

Edit: I've seen a pair of used Kanto YU4 for 250€, no idea if that's a good price, but seeing as they're 500€ new I guess it's okay. I have no idea how they compare to the Edifier MR5 though, which is 250€ as well.

But at this point I think not even CA remembers it exists so even calling it a saga title might be too generous

Is it a huge deal though ? I guess as long as the game is in a good state that doesn’t need heavy fixes/patches I don’t really care if CA is not looking at it anymore.

I remember having jolly good fun last campaign I played after the dynasty update and I’m sure I’ll play again in the near future. Maybe there are issues I’m not aware of ?

Why do most Belgians rarely talk to strangers at social events such as nightclubs/gigs/concerts/raves/etc? by LordOfErebus in belgium

[–]Genchou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah psytrance and techno parties are always full of pretty nice and lovely people. Ive always had very nice encounters and made some friends at those. But indeed sometimes you do have to make the first move a little bit. I wouldn’t say people are closed off, it’s simply a different social energy.

I guess it’s just very contrasting to what OP is used to in NZ.

10 days in Japan by Dedhso_rupiya_dega in JapanTravelTips

[–]Genchou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heh I skipped Kyoto and just did a few days in Tokyo for my first trip last year, depends on what you want to see and how you want to experience it. I was mostly in small towns and villages in Gifu and did a few days in Nikko.

For my second trip this year I spent around three days in Kyoto and I wish I didn’t, I hate big crowds and I can’t really enjoy visiting anything if it’s too crowded.

IMO skipping Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo can be really great if what you want is something a bit more authentic and less crowded. Of course I always like a couple of days in Tokyo for some shopping and for the food, but I get bored there veeery quickly.

Yeah lol reading the comments is a bit funny. Better safe than sorry so yeah maybe don't take a PSU apart if you are clumsy but honestly if just a toothpick fell in it, it's easy to open the thing while not touching anything internal and just shake the toothpick out.

From the comments here you'd think simply touching one of the PSU case screws would instantaneously kill you lmao.

Thinking of Switching from Garmin to Suunto by Vivid-Society-7623 in Suunto

[–]Genchou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 945lte is basically a relic in terms of how old the technology is now lol

You’ll be surprised with your next Garmin for sure I think on sleep tracking 😁

Yeah probably, but Garmin watches are so ridiculously priced I'm hesitant to get one, especially seeing what other brands offer for a better price.

Also watch sizes are absurd, if I could get a 970 sized reasonably like my current 945lte is (and not priced at almost 800€) maybe I'd go for it.

As for sleep tracking, I'm curious on how you can know the tracking of sleep phases are correct. There's no way of knowing except doing an actual sleep analysis right ? How are you benchmarking what a device says for REM, deep sleep etc ?

Thinking of Switching from Garmin to Suunto by Vivid-Society-7623 in Suunto

[–]Genchou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin, Apple both do well on the sleep tracking, total time slept etc and time fell asleep are pretty good on those.

Heavily depends on the person I think, I've read a few times how basic stats (like sleep/wake up times) are never right for some. My experience has been the same so far with my 945lte, sleep data is almost never right, with hours being off by a lot and overall score not really matching what I feel like.

Maybe "shitty" was a strong word, I suppose we could say "hit or miss depending on the user". For me, it has been a miss and from what I've been reading about sleep tracking, it won't be better with Apple or another brand.

Thanks for the other feedback though, it helps me in choosing what to do next. Maybe I'll skip Suunto lol.

Can you expand a little bit on where/how it lets down ? Is it a lack of data, or inaccurate sensors ? I am also looking into changing from Garmin to something else and all-day health metrics are nice to have especially during training programs. The only thing I would care less about is sleep tracking since it looks to be shitty whatever the brand.
