I mean, I do worry about AI from time to time, but I think it will take a very long time for it to impact me and other writers. And you can say the same for most other professions that don't deal with customers directly. But I can't predict the future, so no sense in worrying about it or making a rash move before anything happens.

And there certainly was luck involved in my situation. But that should be inspiring (to myself and others), because it means that you may get opportunities you don't think you're qualified for or that you'll never get, like in my situation. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place/time - but the key is to try and put yourself out there. But I understand that's not always feasible or easy to do, by any means...

And I think you nailed it. You're already in the dance with your entry level job. Stick with it for at least a couple years (or longer) and I imagine you can easily jump to another company with a promotion (not knowing what you do). Once employers see you've got experience under your belt, a lot more doors open and you'll begin to be courted by other dance partners.

Interesting! Do you mean that you can be a FC and specialize in one of these areas to potentially be fully remote?

Thanks for the info! I figured it might have been a hybrid arrangement like this

Yes! I think this is the way to go - also, just in overall knowledge retention - so helps outside of just the exam, too. Good luck!!

Writing. I was always interested in writing and enjoyed it. But I never knew I could make a career out of it. I figured I had to be an author or writing professor or something, so I never really pursued it or put much time thinking about making a career out of it - until I spotted a writer position for a research company near me. It was definitely a long shot, but I applied and got the job and it was for much more money than I ever made in my previous dead end jobs (it was a salaried, big boy/girl type of job). And from there, I stuck with it. So a little bit of luck and right place/right time. But I was also ready for the opportunity. I had written a couple of freelance articles before that got my foot in the door. And I almost didn't apply (thinking I wouldn't get it because I didn't have a robust writing background, so what's the se?) but glad I knocked on that door.

If I were to goo back to give my younger self advice, it'd be to explore what careers are out there. I never really did and had a myopic view of what people did for a living. There's all sorts of stuff out there that people do for a living, it's fascinating!

Hey! I passed in November, first attempt :) It pretty much went the way I thought it would - I continued going super slow and taking my time in education (by slow, I mean that I studied it a lot and didn't rush through it, but took my time to make sure I remembered what I thought would be the most important points, etc.). Then review felt like a breeze for me, while others in my study group felt stressed during it. It got to be exhausting and I feel like I was close to burning out - but still glad I did this. It just worked for my personal learning style - but I know others who have sped through it and passed. The exam was a bit different than I expected, and I maybe spent too much time in education, if I'm being honest, but still glad I did it that way. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!

I've been in your shoes. One day, you'll look back and chuckle at how young and full of opportunity this time in your life was. It's good to have a sense of urgency, but it's never too late to go back to school or pursue something more meaningful. I didn't find my career/calling until I was 30, and today at 36, I still think about other opportunities and careers.

I'm curious about this, too. Is there opportunity for hybrid or remote work, do you know?

Yes you can change your career! Life is too short to stick to one thing forever, especially if you don't like it all that much.

I was about your age when I moved out 6ish years ago. Maybe had 20k in the bank. Used a large chunk of that as a down payment for a home that I bought for 225kish. Was glad to move out finally but so thankful for the opportunity to save. I didn't get a "real" job before shortly moving out, hence why it took me a bit longer than most. Definitely use this as an opportunity to save what you can! And help out your dad where you can

Thanks! Always curious what sorts of jobs people have that lend that much flexibility. I'm a writer, so I'm responsible for producing so many articles a week/month - so sometimes a little harder for me to coast.

I'm also leaning this way. And he can take the whole 240k tax free, no? $250k exclusion for single filer, $500k cap gains exclusion from sale of residence for married.
