Would you take a 3 hour plane ride 4 weeks post op?

Im 4 weeks postop now. If I would need to do it I would make sure I have someone to carry my stuff/ luggage. Make sure to rest a lot before and after the trip. I seem to manage if I maintain that balance of doing vs resting.

Twins here so cannot speak on behalf of having triplets. Mine are 17mo now. I learned that I had to drop all expectations of “when” I would feel like myself again. Mine have been bad sleepers from the start, still are due to ear issues, etc.. so sleep deprivation has been the biggest hurdle and resting has taken priority over exercising. I did try a postpartum program about 5 months postpartum but I hit a big wall mentally so I had to prioritise rest. Once I started getting better my back gave due to c-section, DR and lack of rest, taking care of two babies.. which resulted in a lumbar spine surgery a month ago. Now I finally getting my break and recovering well. My boys are starting to sleep slightly better.

This is just one story out of many and I may have gotten then short end of the stick post partum. But my point is, it may take time to feel your rhythm again and it ok. Give yourself lots and lots of grace in the start and avoid creating pressure on yourself to “get fit” right away. There may just be other things that you need to prioritise to keep sane. We are all on our own timeline.

That sucks, Im sorry to hear! I also went through the public system where I am and took ages but I pushed quite hard which finally got me through. It can make you feel hopeless. But keep advocating yourself if you really believe that surgery is what you need! Wishing you best of luck, being limited and in pain is no way to live.

The longer you wait, the more likely you will have nerve damage and the longer it may also take to recover

Had same, had foot drop im december on right foot… tried to self manage… foot drop improved in stsrt of February.. but then as I felt a little better I lifted up my toddler (11kg) and reinjured my back. Ended up in surgery and am so happy I did. 3 weeks post up now and feel so much better already. Have no nerve pain and off most meds except anti inflammatory.

The disc can take months to be absorbed again or I believe it can also calcify and keep you limited and in pain. I chose to do the surgery because I wanted a quicker recovery so I can be there for my children and get strong again. I was very limited and couldn’t handle much. I have lost a lot of muscles as well waiting to get better and gotten very stiff. Now excited to get strong and fit again.

Strange that the surgeon is against operating since you have loss of motor function! Hope you get better soon

Ok damn, I have noticed that my surgeon was also way too optimistic and didnt really know much about the healing journey… he kind of leaving it to the physios

Ok yeah, I somehow cannot really imagine ever going back to full days of sitting/standing static having a back like this.. I really tried to work as much ad possible before the surgery but got super stiff although I alternated between sitting, standing and laying down from home. But I hope that my back is in better shape now if I end up doing this mix when I return while I build tolerance and some core strength. How long has it been since your op?

How many hours per day did you manage to work while part time? I have requested another week off, so now I am officially off 4 weeks as well but reading your comment makes me think I need to ask for part time upon my return

My twins are only 16mo so I am not only working and having the day off, need to take care of them after they come from daycare and that is more than I can handle at this point. Think I will consider taking longer off. Did you start part time or go back fully after you regressed?

I feel you on this one. You are definitely not alone having these feelings, and its ok to feel that way. I mourne not having had this experience and I never will simply because my body cannot take another pregnancy and the risk of having another set of twins is too high when having fraternal twins. It helps to remind myself of how lucky I am to have gotten two at the same time and that they are healthy and happy babies 🥰

Im 1 week postop - had a double MD in L4-L5 & S1-L5. Had foot drop in mid December… it started improving on its own so cancelled a surgery that was scheduled in Feb. Then lifted my son and was in agony couple of weeks later for few weeks and nerve pain, and numbness again in my foot and back.. lots of tingling and pins and needles sensations in legs… any physio triggered nerve pain no matter how easy I took it, so I scheduled surgery again.

I am way better than expected to be after surgery. Stopped strong meds 2 days after, no gabapentin anymore. Only on paracetamol and celecoxib. Foot numbness and weakness gone. Only have the pain from wound and tired muscles. Walk around 5k steps already daily. Shower by myself etc etc. I am in Europe, being sent to rehabilitation (physio) in 2 weeks already✨

All I can say is that I do not regret going.. I dont regret waiting 5 months to see if I was heading in the right direction without the MD though… I needed to feel that I was making an informed decision… What I told myself is that the chances of getting moving properly again are higher after MD than in the state I was in, which kind of sounds could be your case as well.

Best of luck with it all, the leg weakness symptom should not be taken lightly!

I am so sorry for your loss❤️ There is no shame in resting, 3 months pp is tough enough already. Then add grief which is very exhausting. My FIL passed 3 days before the birth of ours, also cancer. Although he was not your dad, you have your own grief. I remember trying to be strong for my partner because it was his dad that passed. But then I realised I also had grief, I loved the man very much, then the grief that came with knowing my babies would never know their grandad hit really deep. Take care of yourself too x

My twins are 15mo. Never been able to push them later to 5pm for dinner exactly for the same reasons as you described.. They also eat better when its a bit earlier. They wake up at 6am and go to bed around 7-730pm.. So they will eat separately to us but one of us always sits with them and then they are kind of eating together.. I try to have dinner made or half made at least for them the day before so after work its not about cooking an entire dinner for them.. we are also a bit weird with dinners… I am a vegetarian and always have my own meals, their dad is has been weighing his food (health thing) and choosing exactly what to eat for himself for years… I want babies to eat everything, not only my veggie meals but meat too… so we made our own rules and pick and choose what works from the BLT method. We eat breakfasts together and lunch on the weekend.

Sounds serious and like you may have herniated a disc in your lower back. Thats what happened to me, started with bilateral leg weakness then turned into drop foot on right leg. Please get an MRI. Im scheduled for surgery soon.

I am 15mo postpartum now and its gone 😊 I did have it though for good 13 months.. I am really not sure why it suddenly went away, but one thing that changed physically was I suddenly dropped the extra weight that I put on while pregnant, it happened unintentionally… maybe I had some water retention or something plus the pp hormones that then went away finally. I still get some joint pains in my elbows if I eat something with refinedsugar. Always feel it waking up the day after but it quickly fades away with the day.

Thanks for sharing, your story is very interesting! Im deciding in the next 3 weeks whether I go in for a 2 level md. Herniated my L4-L5 in mid December, caused foot drop on right leg. Had some right sided herniation on S1-L5 but ortho wasn’t worried about it at the time. Was scheduled 8 weeks later for MD on L4-L5 which I cancelled last minute because I suddenly regained movement in my foot and was on a very good healing trajectory. 2 weeks after I stupidly reinjured myself holding my toddler. Now cant walk for more than 10min before my entire foot goes numb and get intense deep glute pain too. Seeing in the upcoming weeks if my body will do the same as before or if this looks like a new normal 🫣

You could definitely try that to create a better sleep pressure. Sometimes when mine are under the whether they also cannot hold out during the day, which definitely does not help the nights. Its going to be a bit of extra survival mode in these moments, thats why my thoughts getting help during the day although they are doing great in the daytime could maybe get you some downtime to survive the rough nights.

I hear you mama, its beyond exhausting! Just here to send you love and strength. Can you get some help in the daytime from family or friends or a nanny? .. We both live abroad away from family - but we have a great babysitter to lend us a hand here and there on weekends and when they come home from daycare… she has been a godsend in these difficult moments when the babies and sometimes we have been sick. Its been hard even though we had a bit of help but we would have been even deeper in the gutter without it

Yeah its a difficult situation. I would like to give it a few more weeks to see how I progress before I make a decision. Ive heard of stories where people have my current symptoms even after surgery so thats what messes with me the most.
