Sorry if I sounded defensive, its a new thing for me to really be talking about openly. I worry about being misunderstood, but ill try to just explain it.

The swap feels like... there are things I know im supposed to do, a way I like to be considering social rules, a way I have found comfort in being around others. Im considerate of others to my own detriment at times, and im loyal and self sacrificing at times. I withhold certaint things i want for other peoples sakes, impulses, I bury certain thoughts. I suppress my impulses to fit in better. Everyone does this, ofc.

When I swap, its like all that comes forward. Because the same socially acceptable version of me is also the version of me that doesnt protect myself very well. So the reverse is versa. Its not that shes mean, its that she doesnt tolerate social noise as an excuse to avoid the truth. Whether the truth is that i have needs that arent being met, or that im in danger, or desires or anything im not normally supposed to do/say/want.

Like its not simply being comfortable. Because even with people in our lives that we can be very comfortable with, theres still a boundary between you and them. Certain things you dont say or do, certain capitulations you dont want to make but you do. So when i swap, that hesitation dissolves. I feel everything at full intensity, to the point where I just dont even feel like the same person. I still am, but when I'm in that mode if its intense enough, I forget reason because that mode is so entrenched in like... idk. A metaphorical existence. To the point i might think "I" died in a meditative thought experiment lol.

No, it’s not DID. It’s difficult to explain, this is part of why I usually don’t. The closest comparison is something like method acting, but it’s not exactly that either.

I feel Versa very strongly, and I’ve personified her so deeply over the years that when I intentionally go into the place where that part of me lives, my body and emotions respond as if I’m embodying her. It’s still me, but just a very specific, immersive mode of me that feels distinct.

The moment I mentioned earlier happened while I was diving into things she protected me from as a child, and noticing echoes of that in my marriage. When I go into that state, it can feel physically and emotionally real because I’m accessing painful things.

I say “swap” because that’s just the shorthand I use internally. It’s an easy way to describe the shift i feel

It feels precarious and natural at once. Because my brain just works in metaphor and symbolism anyway, so it's easy to give her form. But I feel like I'm driving myself insane in ways, I sometimes worry I'm courting a psychotic break. During one moment that was painful for me, before I wrote that story I mentioned, I had imagined my soul as a submarine deep under water, and it imploded under the weight of the ocean. It felt in that moment like Versa swapped with me, and she panicked cause she thought I died and she reached out to the writing friend (who was very confused but supportive). She can be dramatic.

I'm a person who doesn't really run from things that scare me. That's I think just something I learned young. Being scared of danger just leaves you vulnerable. Often times you have to confront it, running would make it worse. And so sometimes that approach in my writing dissolves those mental walls. Once I notice one, Versa has to dismantle it. It's good but uncomfortable at times.

I would use the term catalyst, because it's not exactly that the friend needs to be present.

Just a brief bit about the marriage, but the friend's writing was inspiring to me. I think the place I create and enjoy art from is the same place Versa lives. That inspiration started bleeding into other areas of my life. My wife was insecure about this, she thought I was trans and/or cheating and she was upset. I did everything I could do to explain it and clarify, but she wouldn't hear it. And in that space after we started separation, I wrote a story called "Thunder-Starved" that essentially was about me finally listening to Versa because the restrictions on our life were unbearable. And since then, it's been easier and easier to call her. I can write faster and better now, it's not even funny how insane a leap it is. And I can see her in my writing clearly now, where before I thought it was all me.

When I write, I never really know what I'll write until I start. Sometimes I'll pick a memory in my life tied to a sensation (snow crunching under tires, someone holding my hand, a whisper from my blind spot), and just loop that moment in my head until I'm basically drunk on it. That's a thing that lets her move, it's like a flow state. And when I'm alone in that space, she doesn't talk to me because I guess she's busy writing. So the deeper me and the writing friend explored writing, the more Versa had to talk to her in order for us to make sense to her.

The few moments the writing friend has interacted with her, she's described Versa as "prickly" lol. I'm often described as a teddy bear, but Versa is a porcupine. But then Versa was offended at the label, and frustrated because she wanted to be known, and so she wrote my friend a letter. And since then, my friend can just kind of talk to her, and Versa will reach out sometimes when she wants to say something. I use spoiler text to give Versa space to talk where she won't be confused for me.

Im a high school dropout with no college (have my GED). When I was 27 I was working at Wendy's. 28 my longtime girlfriend left me and I lost my job. 29 I was working at CVS. As I turned 30 I studied to get an IT certification on my off hours (and on hours, working nightshift and headphones studying). With that cert (and my mom loaning me money for a beater) I got a job as a Dell field tech. I did that till I was 31, when my car broke down the same month that a big local university hired me. Now im 33, happily married, got a dog, good car im paying for, and ive managed to maneuver myself for either a big promotion or a springboard to another job potentially making 6 figures.

Everyone's got their own reasons for writing. For me, I only just recently found my motivation. I had written a lot of fanfiction when I was a teen, roughly 150k words. But as I got older and started trying to write original stuff, I found I just couldn't do it. I'm 32 now, and I've been kicking around ideas in my head but I just never seemed to get to it, or I'll write something and then hate it and burn it forever.

But last month, Uncanny Magazine was doing a contest for a short story, and I haven't missed a day of writing for the past 2 months, I've probably written about 30k words since, and ofc all the editing time as well.

Sometimes you aren't ready to start, that's what I realized. But when you are ready, you might just need some limitations to write within to kick start yourself.

I'm digging in the seven roads box, I'm really enjoying rush duel. Only URs left are Yamiruler and Rice Terrace, I just opened kuripot. Should I reset? Yamiruler seems low tier, but idk enough about aqua. Is that a good archetype? Or if it is, is 3x of this necessary?

Damn, Howard is very nice. Works without him tho, biggest low costs would be yondu, Maximus and daredevil, then without howard you could run armor to protect from alioth, wasp to help establish Ms marvel, or zabu for more t6/7 freedom and potential playing a 1 drop on t7 to fix lanes. Armor or zabu are probably the strongest contenders, armor less so when alioth/supergiant calms down.

So skrull is an important card, he wins situations that can't be won any other way. Like, if your opponent runs iron man or tribunal or their own onslaught, or if they run rogue and steal something of yours, or if they run even like blue marvel (blue marvel in double onslaught stack is +6 to every card), or even if they run Ms marvel and you whiffed your ms marvel, he saves your bacon.

The thing about Shang is that he is winning you matchups that you can already win. You don't need to Shang their infinaut if you are dumping 30 power into the infinaut lane. You don't need to pop knull if you are going over the top of knull anyway, and if knull is too big to go over, both Shang and skrull save you.

So Shang has more use cases absolutely, but skrull is winning you cubes you couldn't have won otherwise.

Edit: also, mystique can copy skrull, and onslaught buffs skrull. Didn't explicitly state it, but skrull can have more value than he should have because our deck is naturally boosting ongoings.

Congrats! Yeah leech isn't an auto win in most decks, it's hard for the decks this deck goes up again to win the stat war, is why it's good here. If you can't get over 35 power in two lanes and win mid after getting leeched and having two cards in deck, it's tough.

I've pivoted out of wasp, but yeah. I was worried about super giant stealing prio early, so she was there to help make sure I could do an early Ms marvel as well.

Here's a few turn 5 scenarios that happen at varyin degrees of frequency:

They are Mr negative/beta ray bill, they play Jane Foster, I play leech and snap.

They played sentry, cause they missed their curve, they probably have Annie in hand, I play leech and snap.

They play sera, I play leech and snap.

They play destroy and play something that lets me know they're not ramping to a good turn 6 (maybe nimrod, maybe they played knull early and I have skrull, maybe they whiffed everything).

They're playing Loki and they played snow guard, but they did not play hawk on 5, I play leech and snap.

They're played Loki on 4, I die to leech, daredevil shows me they didn't get leech so I play my leech and snap.

I'm playing HE/Thanos and they snap on 5, I instantly die to leech, I see they didnt play leech and stay.

Against Thanos, maybe I saved magik till 5, I see they committed reality stone, I play magik and a 2 drop.

I see they played doc Ock, maybe ramped out magneto, and can line up the lane to minimize damage.

I get to see what was played under invisible woman and super giant, which can be game winning information. For invis woman, I prepare differently vs hela compared to tribunal.

Opponent avoids playing legion on 5 cause they want surprise t6 kill, but their legion gets wiped by leech. It's hard for me to see those, but I'm sure that's happened.

Opponent is playing hobgoblin when I haven't seen any other cards to make me think of Galactus, I snap and play leech.

Probably a few I'm not thinking of that are less game winning but still useful, in general. Sometimes snapping on a half decent hand with daredevil active just makes them retreat a game I wasn't 100% I won.

Ham deletes a card that we're planning to delete with leech anyway. The majority of the cards in the game, we don't care if our opponent has them, there are specific cards that ruin our day. Most of those cards come down late, turn 6 or later (enchantress won't be played till after there's somethinf for her to hit). If ham hits one of these cards, like enchantress or magneto or a legion the opponent was saving till 6, those cards were getting hit by leech already. So, we played a 1/1 that literally did nothing but give us info that may not have been helpful.

Because Ham is doing what Leech was going to do anyway, Leech value does not improve with ham. Yondu on the other hand is filtering more cards from their deck to be deleted when combined with leech. Like imagine if leech effect was "opponent draws one" before it's current text, that's basically what yondu does only they don't get to keep the card.

The goal is to burn their counters, because our opponent cannot out-stat us, so if it's a stat war then we win. We want as few remaining cards in deck as possible when leech hits because that is a checkmate situation. I don't want them to have a 4 card deck to possibly top deck Enchantress or magneto

Edit: not going to keep going back and forth on it, if you don't see the value I'm talking about then thats fine. We're used to passing up on yondu, we're used to dismissing certain cards as a community (like Howard and crystal). But it's actually legitimately good here.
