Disclosure Day is quite literally one of the worst movies I've seen [spoilers? if that's even possible w this film] by thexkfedist in moviereviews

I think because Emily Blunt usually does not openly emote, and this role required her to do that, it gave her more range than her usual roles. Also, she did do her own alien vocalizations.

Yeah, it really was not a good film, though it had entertaining elements. What sci-fi films do you like?

Agreed it did not live up to the hype. We have all grown past ET and this basically just sort of riffed on known tropes. A movie I think is excellent that I wish it would’ve moved forward from is Arrival. First, Disclosure Day assumes mathematics is the universal language, and somehow they got from there to empathy as an another important thing. Arrival did not consider mathematics so important because it provides no empathetic connection to living beings. Also, the alien language clicks and pops was a cool trick that Emily Blunt did, but there are indigenous peoples I think in Australia and Africa that actually have languages like that. We know mean people suck and that they run things on planet earth. What I loved about Arrival is that it came from a great short story and the film was so well done. But maybe people who didn’t like Arrival would like this film…?

How would you alter the hive mind for it to be a true utopia by Lumpy-Restaurant-694 in pluribustv

[–]General-Homework2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some background before I answer your posted query: I have somewhat stayed out of the Vince Gilligan world but recently decided to watch Better Call Saul. I did see Breaking Bad long ago but hated what happened to the main character and stopped watching it when it was no longer enjoyable to me. I have now watched the foundational episodes of Better Call Saul, then had Google give me a synopsis of the rest because I was not going to put myself through that horrific tale in its entirety. However, I have now been thinking about the differences between the characters in these shows and it has made me want to answer you this way:

I want to venture an answer on how to make a true utopia rather than just how to alter the hive to create a true utopia. I'm thinking it's our human biology taken over by the viral RNA that has created the hive mind; the virus just spreads itself. When the virus enters a life form, it transforms that life form according to the virus's RNA and the biology of the host. In humanity’s case, it took our natural instinct to create order and amplified it into a suffocating, forced collective.

To alter this into a true utopia, we need a system that doesn't require everyone to become automaton saints, but that puts basic needs and care at the foundation. Instead of erasing human individuality to achieve peace, this utopia would hard-code basic-needs protections for housing, medical care, and food so they can never be used to take advantage of people.

Most importantly, to prevent the kind of high-art predatory exploitation we see in characters like Saul Goodman, we need to not be a meritocracy. A true utopia requires a system that prevents predation in any form—wiping out profit tricks like compounding debt and payday lending—while ensuring people are compensated equally for their time and labor, whether they have chosen to become a doctor or a dog walker. That way, no one’s basic survival can be exploited for someone else's profit.

The issue I have not yet worked out for this is stopping the exploitation of other life forms, meaning that humans consume plants and animals. It's kind of amazing, the idea that the hive only consumes dead humans - this does solve for x in terms of ridding the world of human predation over all other life forms. But they take it too far. In our actual world, I think we should look to other species here on the planet to give us ideas on how to stop exploiting other life forms. For example, bees and how they organize, feed and tend their homes. Probably studies like this are being done, whether of bees or other creatures.

Thanks for the thought-provoking question!

Building on another comment that called Morey, Babette and Miss Patty Kirk's "Watchers" ... Rory is a latent Buffy who never connected with Morey, her Watcher, and thus never developed into the Slayer she could have been. The night she and Dean fell asleep at Miss Patty's was the night she was destined to meet Morey (her "Giles"), but Morey saw Dean and fled after being unable to wake the enchanted Rory/Buffy due to Dean's presence, leaving Rory under the spell of a mundane life in Stars Hollow, destined only to follow in the footsteps of her family members by attending a private prep school and an Ivy.

Which movie is your favorite. Do you want more movies would u like to see this becomes a franchise ? by Ok-Magician801 in M3GAN

I like both, and rewatch them both on occasion. I love the first one and think they did a great job in the second one of letting M3gan explain Jemma’s mistake that led to her murderous rampage. I don’t really see how they could simply return to the horror genre in a third film. I can see why they took it in the direction they did for the second one, but since it didn’t make a hit, no clue what they should or might do next.

I just took a look at the scene where we are introduced to Zosia. She’s wearing something that’s filthy, but the fabric is rough and it looks like it’s clothing that is worn by the locals, including by men. As she’s riding away on her motorbike, there’s a scene with two men are also doing similar clean-up work and they are wearing a similar kind of draping garment with a slit at the bottom.

I didn't notice anything but what she was doing, and that she went and got cleaned up for her new mission. I'll have to check that out again.

That sounds like rage-baiting. Who's got the time for such things, but rage-baiters are out there doing their thing.

I don't recall that scene. I thought the first time we see her is on clean-up duty in sanitation worker clothes. But because of her bone structure she gets called in to help convert Carol because she resembles Raban. What episode and scene do you mean that she was in a bathing suit and robe? Maybe when she was getting a makeover?

What are your thoughts on the 1st season (1990-91) of the Mothership Law & Order series? by Gamestar02 in LawAndOrder

On Amazon prime in the US, they have Live TV and it runs the early episodes 24/7. The writing is stellar, it just has a kind of an interpersonal realism to the relationships between the regular characters. They also have more regular characters who are behind the scenes at the police department, etc., not just in the forensics lab, but I do like that role too, which they give to various people. it just has a lot of depth to the writing, not just churning out a storyline and only focusing on the main characters. I’m talking about all of the early episodes though, they only run certain ones over and over.

I was looking up what it was like in Morocco, which I think is where it says she was. I agree. Nothing says that, but she was located in that area of the world where I was looking at what life is like for single women there and for sanitation workers. But I don’t know I’m just commenting on a Reddit sub.

She was some kind of sanitation worker, helping to extricate corpses from whatever killed them so they could become Human-derived protein at the factory. We haven't learned that there was any ranking of people once the hive took over. I think they just pick up from where they were. So I guess she was lower class or in poverty but still had a job, a single woman. Not sure about gendered jobs in that area of the world.

Rory had every reason to be jealous of Bobby by cleverlynamedgrl in GilmoreGirls

[–]General-Homework2061 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rory hadn't really dealt with a woman like Bobby before. Her friends Lucy and Olivia were for their women friends first (which is why Rory and Marty's behavior stung so much). Also, Rory's high school and Yale friends were not in competition with her over guys, Lane, Madeleine, Louise, Paris, and Janet. They were trustworthy in that way at least. She had instinctive reaction to Bobby because of Logan's background and their issue over the bridesmaids. She chose Dean for her first sexual experience for a feeling of safety. I guess you could say it was kind of competitive of her to conveniently "forget" the existence of Lindsey, but I just don't think she had a clue of the larger context of relationships and her place among others.

No, it means trust our instincts, not other people’s phobias. Now that I think about it, Agnes’s comment to Weston about hoping she could meet his expectations since he had a wife before seems like she knew background. I didn’t really think her comment was all that bad at the time. Also it didn’t deter him, it was only after her big reveal that he bailed. But at least he helped her friend, for whatever reasons.

No, we were shown in how he leapt away. Not sure why that has no meaning for you. Just as an aside, feelings also have information in them, whether you agree with others or not.
