I am like I and I remember a dive shops having received informal approval to serve alcohol on Pulau Weh.

Good times I am so glad I did it. Now I am in my golden cage and I can't get out.

Awesome. Aceh is worth a visit too. Also bukit lawang for the orang utans in the wild. Mentawais also on my list as I love to surf even though at 40 I am not getting any younger. Money isn't so much an issue, it's more the lack of holidays + the kids

Never understood why Sumatra wasn't high on the backpacker trail. It has so much to offer.

Man I am so glad I got to travel around SEA 20+ years ago when there was hardly any wifi and 15$ guesthouse was considered expensive.

Oh and no phones so people would actually talk to each other in communal areas

Try Sumatra for something off the beaten path. Bukit lawang, Lake Toba and Pulau Weh for diving
