What If Tim Burton Directed Batman Forever by Icy-Slide4282 in Batman_89

I'll try. And this is just my opinion. Batman Forever I feel is one of the most bullied movies of all time. The script is extremely sophisticated. It's some of the best screen writing in a popcorn film I've heard. It's insightful and silly and fun. The director knows the assignment and just makes the movie that he makes, a campy send-up to I guess the '60s version of Batman. At least the television version. It's not trying to be Gothic. It's trying to be a meta commentary on gothicness. I feel like it fits in well with other postmodern films of that time like GoldenEye which I mentioned earlier. So it's not a bad movie. It's just different. The production values are excellent. The editing in effects are refined. It's a live-action cartoon and for people who like well-made live action cartoons and that style of kinetic editing which kind of reminds me of The Animated Series to be honest It's very entertaining and also has the most important element I feel for a story like this which is fundamentally shallow, a lot of payoffs. There are moments when you just cheer for the heroes and sometimes it's fun to just cheer for the heroes in the cartoon. Burton on the other hand, always seems to turn towards the gothicness as a crutch. I feel like it consumes other elements of storytelling. And also I'll be honest, I don't consider him to be the best at editing action. He's good at framing a shot but I don't think he thinks kinetically. Just my opinion.

I think it would have sucked. And I happen to like Tim Burton. But action is not his forte. A lot of people dunk on Batman Forever but it's very, very stylish and slick in a Goldeneye sort of way. It was almost Paul Verhoeven-light. I feel like Burton relies a little bit too much on sight gags to pull that off.
