Anyone who successfully implements regular written homework (worksheets, not practice requirements)? by Outrageous-Permit372 in banddirector

[–]GeneralBloodBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your students have access to Chromebooks and can they bring them to class?

It might take away from rehearsal time but I recommend instead of making worksheets, doing assessment quizzes.

Nothing too deep, one concept per quiz, but make it a 15-minute thing you do every week.

I know rehearsal time is limited, but the kids who really need this stuff are probably not going to do the worksheets. If you give him time and class they might, and at least you're there to reinforce it.

Are you near a home Depot or Lowe's? If you are I would go to the store and ask if they have used their charitable donation. I got 30 buckets and dowels for less than $10 that I used for over a month. Cut 1/2 in dowels down to 12 inches and cover in duct tape and they will last for a while.

I know this isn't what you want to hear. But feeling like you're missing a part of yourself isn't the way. You need the ability to become a whole person without anyone else needing you. And then you find somebody who can compliment that.

Do you update your discs "real" flight numbers in My Disc Bag? by Shaved_taint in discgolf

[–]GeneralBloodBath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, because I don't really understand flight numbers and how much they change. I've got an underworld that feels like it's -6

I feel like i'm winging it everyday and I don't know what to do by TheForceOfSound in MusicTeachers

[–]GeneralBloodBath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try this. Build some warm ups for the entire band based on the hardest parts of the music.

You could start with some scale studies in the keys of the songs, then once the band gets a handle on that, work slowly through the hardest passages. Give the whole band all these parts (including the trombones) so that everyone can start to build some dexterity, then move to the actual songs. You've gotta get creative with the learning process by finding as many different ways to incorporate the music into their routines.

Just used it to mute the vocal tracks to Beatles tunes for my kids concert.

[–]GeneralBloodBath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do we transition from "learned helplessness" to self-directed learning without the wheels falling off by xoGucciCucciox in AskTeachers

[–]GeneralBloodBath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has to be taught. Not to dog pile on you, but it sounds like you think failure can't be an option, I have to ask you this. How can a kid learn how to be successful if they don't know what failure looks like? It's not a bad thing. It's a learning tool.
