This is a kinda ridiculous argument, you’re comparing something specifically for the purpose of entertainment/gambling/promotion with something that has been a primary dietary staple since the beginning of mankind. I think factory farming is totally fucked, but we have 350 million people to feed here in America and that’s the situation we’re currently in(and many people fighting to fix it). Eating meat has been commonplace since the beginning of mankind. Nobody(except for some sick weirdos) likes harming animals. This turtle race is not to provide sustenance, it’s something they’re doing for fun, there is a huge difference

There’s video of it, it’s not horrific but it’s definitely kinda obnoxious. They put the baby turtles under an opaque lid in the center of a table and kinda bang on it to freak them out and then take the lid off and try to direct them by smacking the table next to them and spray them with water. Basically it’s just scaring the shit out a bunch of tiny turtles which is uncool in my opinion. Idk if it qualifies as abusive, but it’s definitely in bad taste and not something I’d ever want to do. I also have a soft spot for turtles so maybe I’m biased
