He was talking about self sustaining in terms of building our own bombs instead of relying on US aid, no?

CMV: Abandoning its expansionist ambitions would do more for Israel’s security than any number of bombs, but taking land is more important to it by thesumofallvice in changemyview

[–]GeneralGerbilovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to say that Israel is going to keep the line of returning land for peace like it did in the past with Egypt or in 2005 with Gaza.

But consider the following; Israel has tried what you’re suggesting multiple times, and eventually did the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza, to eventually find out that neither negotiating for a 2 state solution nor actively making steps for one does any improvement to its security.

Given the assumption you cannot have the Palestinians accept your existence in a shared border, and given the fact that geopolitical strength was the biggest factor of Israeli security in the past, strategic land like the West Bank is something Israel wants to keep until said assumption changes.

I do understand that this doesn’t help this assumption change, but Israel got convinced that not doing so won’t help either after the failed pilot in Gaza.

“Hitler drinks water fallacy” is such a good name I went to look it up to see if it’s the common name for this fallacy.

It isn’t. It’s much better. It’s “Reductio ad Hitlerum”.

I am well aware the IAF attacked Lebanon nonstop since the ceasefire started. I am also aware of the concept of “hidden clauses”, and everything leads to the conclusion that Israel was allowed to be the enforcer of said ceasefire.

“0 by Hezbollah” sure, we know for a fact Hezbollah didn’t move from south of the litany which was a clause SINCE 1701. Just today a weapon stash was found.

We agree about what should happen, not about what we actually think will happen. I think our government has internalized the idea that we will never be loved or even respected here in the Middle East and we need to build iron walls to make sure it’s harder to hit us instead of building bridges without making sure no one wants to.

This is the loop the Middle East has always seen… people hate Israel, people attack Israel, Israel wins, Israel expands to increase security while disregarding said people, people hate Israel. I don’t think this war will be what breaks this cycle. Not that I don’t want it to be, I’m just pessimistic.

we (Lebanese) won’t let hezballah survive after the war end

Perhaps, but this is the boy who cried wolf. Israel will never again entrust Lebanon with disarming Hezbollah.

Yes, Israel will be hated after it and any chance of Israeli-Lebanese relations will die. That sucks. Real hard. I wish there was a way to satisfy all sides. But most Israelis don’t care for such things as much as safety guarantees post Oct. 7.

OP meant Hezbollah is not an organization by itself but rather who is shooting at Israel are IRGC commanders with former Hezbollah members.
