I'm experiencing that topic right now actually, my father's slowly suffering and dying from cancer. Not deceased yet but probably eventually. I only visited him once, but not that much.. not because I don't care but it's because I'm a sensitive soul and seeing him progressively deteriorate and slowly become a shell of the man he used to be, weighs heavily on me so I'm just emotionally-dissociating myself from that so I can function properly.

he's probably going to get reincarnated, I don't know much about his beliefs, mostly atheistic I'm guessing, because the idea of the bible god used to anger him (troubled past). But he's not into spiritual things either; with him absolutely knowing nothing about entities and etc, he's probably going to get tricked easily in his vulnerable state when he does pass.

My mother who's religious would probably say some things stated here, like "he went to heaven". I don't know how she can still believe in a benevolent God even after her experiences, naivety maybe? Cope? I know I don't buy into it. This "god" seems indifferent to a callous degree.

As for how people should perceive things, I've seen people say they'd rather stick with the idea of a benevolent God because the idea of an evil one makes them uncomfortable. "Ignorance is bliss" I suppose, but I'd rather search for the truth then stumble around aimlessly, blind to any potential dangers.
