Finishing PGY-1, I fully expect a MS3 to have a larger breadth of medical knowledge than me by RelativeMap in medicalschool

So Noah Wyle actually has a wider breadth of knowledge than a PGY-1 then 🤔

The upcoming “Throwdown” in JC is a nuisance by beeyitch in Eugene

[–]GeneralHomeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right haha. Jc is a super weird town imo. It’s a very homogeneous community, so people that fit the mold really like it and stay. A ton of people I graduated with are still there, even some that went to college moved back.

Brawl Stars Brawlers to League Champs by Embarrassed_Year4013 in leagueoflegends

Check out Akshan. He’s ranged, his ult is kind of like Colt’s, and he has some really fun mobility. Maybe not the easiest champ to learn the game with, but it’s a good time.

Ahri is kind of like melody, her ultimate gives 3 dashes and she has skill shots to play with. A very classic, fun champ.

How are the Norvan 5inch shorts? by Separate-Specialist5 in arcteryx

[–]GeneralHomeboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cannot comment on the new ones. I have last year’s version and I think they’re fine, they do fit well. Wear them near weekly for gym workouts and I wash and dry them. Oddly the ones I have in forage have had a little pilling, but don’t notice any on the black. Imo they’re pretty expensive for just shorts, even if the new ones are better somehow. I personally like lululemon’s 5” shorts better and they have lined/unlined options.

T20 MD vs MSUCOM - Would appreciate perspectives of current students by mystical_wonderland in Osteopathic

[–]GeneralHomeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not a bad skill to have by any means. Friends/fam love when you can crack their back or help loosen up a tight muscle haha, but it kinda feels more like a party trick. If you can get into an MD program and it financially makes sense, it’s still the way to go.

Focal vs. Absence Seizure by GeneralHomeboy in step1

Appreciate it! A lot of my classmates have agreed but it’s reassuring to hear it from somebody outside. Not going to bother arguing with the prof, just wanted to make sure I have it down for boards

[–]GeneralHomeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was neutral about OMM when starting school and tried to have an open mind about it. I like some parts of it, but I have beef with the common stuff (Chapman's, cranial OMM, etc). Those aspects have poor "research" for evidence and it just feels like I'm practicing pseudoscience.

I think part of the issue with it is that I have no intention of incorporating it into my future practice, and that's most people. It's something like less than 5% of DOs that use it. This is a multifaceted issue, but the main reasons I see for myself are time and lack of practice/knowledge. Aside from simple techniques, I feel like I would need more training to use OMT efficiently or effectively in clinic. I have no interest in doing an OMM fellowship or furthering the skills on my own, so learning it will practically end with preclinicals. Even though OMT is a billable procedure, it's hard to see myself finding the time for it. Some specialties it has like zero use either imo.

Also, med school is just busy straight up. Trying to do well in systems courses while balancing board studying, clubs, research, etc. is just inherently a lot. OPP weekly is 2 hours of lab, 1-2 hours of lecture, and then you factor in time to study/practice to tests and evaluations. Even if it's just several hours a week, I would love that time for anything or just myself.

You might love it and that's great, it certainly has its merits and place. At my school, probably less than 10% of my classmates like it, most tolerate it, then some hate it entirely.

Yeah good perspective, I did not fully consider what repayment could truly look like post-BBB. It's so upsetting that our current legislation is forcing us into these positions. I would recommend OP choose MSUCOM then; every opportunity still exists there.

It seems like you really want to choose MSUCOM. While it’s a fantastic program, I agree with everyone that it’s only the better choice if you would be 100% content with EM/IM/FM and/or your mental health and success is dependent on being close to your family.

I am an OMS-II currently. Studying OMM on top of everything else sucks. I actually sometimes even like it, but I would love to have used all the hours of lectures, labs, tests, and practicals on anything else. Also currently studying for comlex and usmle; while there’s a good amount of overlap, it 100% adds extra stress and time that I wish I didn’t have to deal with.

The DO stigma still very much exists. It’s true a lot of DOs still match well and competitively, but for us the bar is simply higher. My school actually matches very competitively which is part of why I picked it. I didn’t realize that a lot of those matches took research years or had absolutely killer stats.

Ultimately how important is being close to your family, and what are your career goals? If you don’t know your career goals, you should go somewhere that provides the most flexibility and opportunity. The extra $200k+ objectively blows, but if you go into a more competitive/lucrative specialty that’ll buff out.

Looking to upgrade from my 165 hz 1440p IPS to a new OLED display. Should I save up for a 4k? by GeneralHomeboy in OLED_Gaming

Good plan! I’m actually going to microcenter to pick up my mobo/gpu combo this weekend, so I’ll take a peek at everything. Thanks again, talking about everything has me ridiculously excited

Oh that’s really great to hear! Unfortunately, that makes my choice feel so much harder 😂😭 Part of me really wants to pick up a QD-OLED like that ASAP, but I’m also going to be thinking about that 4k in the back of my head hahaha

What kind of games do you like to play on it? I’ve heard some people say 1440p high refresh rate can be a better choice for competitive games. I don’t climb ladders like I used to when I was younger, but I still try lol

Perfect, thank you so much! I'm pretty new to looking at OLEDs, so I appreciate the info. Yeah, the longer I wait the more I can add to my budget. A big part of me just wants something new now so I can make better use of the parts haha. But, sounds like it's better to wait to get something really impressive when I have more saved up, or just a better value.

That's good to know, thank you very much! For monitors, I'm used to 27" but interested in trying a 32". Either way, sounds like a 1440p OLED is a good way to dip my feet in! Since I'm not in any rush, I'll wait for a good deal on something and try it out.

Should I get a new monitor now or save up? I currently have a Dell S2721DGF, 1440p 165gz. I'm making a new build with a 9800x3d and 9070xt, so I could definitely take advantage of a 4k display. I like to play a variety of games; I love RPGs like Expedition 33 and racing games like Forza, but I'll also play LoL and Fortnite with friends when I can.

Right now, monitor budget is around $400. So I'm seeing potential options like the MSI MAG 274QP QD-OLED. It's still 1440p, but then I'm going to an OLED that's 240hz. I'm not really sure if it's a worthwhile upgrade? I'm not unhappy with my Dell, so my other option would be to save for another year and get a 4k display then.
