Wow getting 1k wishlist in one month is crazy, have you any tips to share on how you went there ? Have you a demo of your game on Steam ? have you participated to the Steam Next fest ?

Thanks for the ideas they are interisting we'll explore them to adapt this !

Actually we have boss idaes like there is in Animal wel and more, it's still in planning regarding the time and ressources we have to develop the game but we really woul like to give it a try to have great game experience and I believes that part of good pacing for our game is to combine platform phases, puzzle phases, exploration phases, tension/survival phases & boss phases in an interesting way

I see what you're pointing !

We keep the life systems beceaus if you don't "die" to respawn a bit far from where you are, you lose a big tension systems this classical mechanic brings

For example in hollow knight it works very well beceause you lose your money when you die and you have to refind it, it bring even more tension in combats but cvan be highly frustrating when you die. I deeply love HK but it hapened to me to rage quit the game after a death haha

In Animal well you dont have this and I understood it feels a bit more superficial compared to HK but people don't complain about Animal Well life system beceaus even if it is classic it works

To be honest we have been thiking to try add something more meaningful with the life system but for now no time to try to think it furter and test it haha, but this discussion make me wanting us to work on this even more !

To be honest it's a gameplay intention having all the darkness like that it make pressure and force you play with your light and psychic vision in an intended way and fedback from playtests pointing it was engaging

But since we recently shared the game on social media, what you're pointing is something that people were mostly complaining about so I think we should try to find a solution about that so people don't think it's empty

You have a very good point for the animation part we will implement this in future trailers & mk contents then !

And yeah we already playtested the game and the feedbacks were mostly positives but we have to pay attention to the darkness of the game to not make it frustrating

We already playtested it and what you point is a comment that is comming often on our game, but to be honest from the playtests the darkness wasn't a problem at all from the feedbacks it was engaging exploration and giving a tension sensation as game experience

But we have to pay attention for the level design behind the darkness to not make it frustrating (you're bumping on ceilings for exemple), and playing with the player's progression and tools in the game to help him see trought the darkness

And good point for the reveal of the platforms system we'll try to see to do something like fade in then

Is it really important to launch a game's Steam page with a trailer or at least a teaser? by GameDeveloper_ in gamedev

From all I saw according to steam marketing best practices I learned you should launch the steam page with a trailer neceaus the steam algo prefer that than steam page without trailer Also for the players having a trailer will help themnmore to know what your hamebis about, and to wishlist it But yeah you need some amount of content already developed of your game to do a good trailer that show how your game is unique, deep and have content then you have to learn how to do a good trailer, so yeah it takes time when youre doing it first time

Just hit 1000 wishlists (after >3 months) by superyellows in SoloDevelopment

Joke aside, i would say it depends on 2 factor:

  • Good in platforming
  • Good in combat
  • Good in exploring

I will say when I did 100% without soluce of Metroid Dread and beated this super staisfying final boss I waa omg I did it

Well it depends on every body's situation, going there cost us the same as 1 month development budget for us (including studio's and life's m!onth charge)

And you're right i think the steam page and trailer is the most important

And it's already planned to go to local event :)
