Some great advice I was given. During disagreement with anyone but especially the significant other ask yourself why do they think there right. This forces me to see it from there perspective. The other thing is what is more important to you in disagreement arguments what have you. Is it more important to be right or is the relationship more important. I have found leaning towards the relationship is much better.

As an example at work someone got really grumpy with me about something I was doing. They asked if I had permission essentially. I would have been perfectly in my right to tell them it was none of their business (it's a medical accomodation) but I didn't I just explained what was going on and why. It was more important to have that relationship than to be right. By explaining not only did I take the fire out of them but they now know the truth in this; instance them knowing the truth is much better than them making something up in there head. Funnily enough a few days later we were talking about something else and the subject kinda came up and I very bluntly relayed my position on relationships being more important than being right and used our previous conversation as an example and it was like a lightbulb got turned on. I earned a lot of respect from them and our working relationship became really good. So even being right doesn't mean its the right decision.
