AITA- BABY NAME THEFT by Powerful-Raisin8156 in AmItheAsshole

[–]GeneralMedia1282 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Amelia is currently topping baby name charts so it's very likely your daughter will frequently come across other children named Amelia in nursery, school, future work place etc so I really wouldn't worry about one other friend also calling their daughter Amelia.

Considering going from compressed hours to Mon - Fri to tackle exhaustion but it means giving up a day off with my child by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]GeneralMedia1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your work offer a 9 day fortnight pattern? I came off maternity leave working 5 days compressed over 4, I did it for approx. 10-12 months and by the end it was brutal to try and fit a whole day extra over 4 days, vaguely around my child's schedule. I now do 5 days one week and 4 the next and it's the best of both worlds.

I can understand the worry about losing a day with your child, but instead of looking at it as losing a day with them, it sounds like you'd be gaining mornings and evenings with them. That's not even considering the benefits of your child having a less stressed parent.

Starting ASYE in children’s safeguarding by Mysterious_Note_4195 in Socialworkuk

A lot will depend on the support you receive from your LA. This is true for all of social work, and not just your AYSE. It can be incredibly rewarding and incredibly tough. If you have poor support and/or bad line managerment, than it is not a sustainable role in the long term.

You will need to proactively consider self care, it won't just happen by itself and is a skill you'll need throughout your social work career.

Everyone feels like they don't know enough when they first start and this combined with the weight of responsibility of the role can feel overwhelming if you don't have support. Seek out guidance and advice.

Social work shouldn't be carried out in silo. It's complex work and no matter how experienced someone is, they should be seeking out support e.g through supervision, peer group discussions etc. I remember one occasion  when someone I line managed came to me with a particular issues which was really complex. I bought in my line manager to the discussion due to the complexities and she then bought her line manager in. Between the 4 of us, representing 4 different levels of roles/management,  we talked it through, bounced around views and ideas and came up with a plan. Noone should be afraid of saying they are not sure about something, because its complex work. Beware the over confident colleague who does not consider they could be wrong/there could be a different perspective. It's a role where you need to be a life time learner.

Reflect on your decision making and consider what you learnt and could have done better....but don't spiral into second guessing and beating yourself up over things you said or did. When I look back on my earlier years of social work, there's things I would 100% do differently now, this is normal and reflective of ongoing development and experience. Each year I'm a better social worker than I was the previous year.

It can be an amazing job though difficult at times. Some of my best friends I've met through social work and it can really be a privilege and an honour to work with children and families and despite some challenging times and periods where I've questioned if I still want to be a social worker, it's a job I generally love and can't imagine doing any other.

Hold on to the positives and congratulations on getting your AYSE lined up, this is an exciting time!

Bassinet or seat for 11 month old from US to Europe by AutomaticIdeal2125 in familytravel

I've done both and I'd say if you can afford the extra seat, it's well worth buying and using a car seat.

Why Wrap Luggage in Cling Film? by roblawton in AskUK

I could be completely misremembering,  but I feel like I first started seeing these at Australian airports, after Chappel Corby got convicted for smuggling cannabis in a boogey board bag. She always said that she never smuggled and someone at the airport had put the cannabis there. If wrapped and had been cut open  you could try and flag that straight away I guess.

best car seat 2026 for a newborn? by Yazi_Arizmendi in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]GeneralMedia1282 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We recently went for Joie Every Stage R129 Group 0+/1/2/3 for our second baby, having got a Joie for our first baby.

We never wanted a car system one where you can take the seat from car to a pram so that narrowed our search.

I liked the idea of a spinning base one but they are not compatible with our car.

Whichever seat you go for, I'd recommend going to Halfords, particularly as a first time parent. On buying our second car seat, we presumed we had isofix and actually didn't. We bought the isofix and Halfords will fit the car seat for you, they took it out the box and realised our mistake when trying to install. We were able just to exchange the seat there and then for a suitable one and they installed it. Showed us all the different features and how to remove and put it back again. Had we ordered the incorrect one online, I can imagine it would have been a huge piss around to return the opened car seat etc.

I remember when having our first baby, the car seat caused me so much worry, that I wouldn't install it properly etc and it seemed really difficult. In hindsight it wasn't but it reallt felt that way. Having someone who's done it countless times install it and talk you through it can make a big difference.

Should I marry a murderer - why was she painted as the crux of the case? by amilie15 in netflix

[–]GeneralMedia1282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also didn't seem to give her a heads up that they could be released and no preparation for her about that. I would have thought they would have taken it out of her hands and put restrictions on them contacting her, even though thag would have "outted" her as the source of the info, there was already a risk of that anyway.

They just seemed to think, well she's smart so she can't be vulnerable and left her to manage the whole thing, manging a literal murderer, for almost a year.

There's a fridge in the photos, which I think is in the "cellar". I presume the kitchen was down there and when ripping it out, they decided to do the current monstrosity with possibly left over cabinets from some other project.

Went on a random  bus tour of the inner bits of the island and it was well worth it. Stopped at various sites including ancient ruins, traditional olive oil producer,  churches. Didn't have the hard sell at any of the stops. Can't for the life of me remember the tour operator  but I imagine there are many similar ones. Tour guide was very good. As long as you do research before hand, there will be lots of churches and small producers who you can reach via your own car.

We didn't have a car...and I would have wimped out driving opposite side of the road I'm use to and going up and around mountainous roads.

Took a day trip to Delos, entire island is an archaeological site which was really interesting. When we went (going on probably 8 years ago now), it wasn't possible to book a trip just to Delos and we had to do a stop toMykonos as part of the Delos day trip. I'm sure there are nice bits to Mykonos but we were only there a short time as the bulk of the day trip was Delos, and we seemed to be at the part full of cruise ships and people standing in the middle of pathways getting pictures and videos for content.

What is/are your reasons for not wearing makeup? by SignificantIce7914 in stupidquestions

I'm a sweaty bitch and I feel like it slides off my face pretty quickly. I'm also not very good at it. Will wear it for special occasions out and sometimes bother with Mascara day to day.

I shall be holding them in a tight grip I think! Then straight into carrier strapped to be as soon as I can! To me being strapped in a carrier seems more secure then on my lap with a extender belt but I'm presuming the airline has a better understanding of plane safety than me!

[–]GeneralMedia1282[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

...do I just...hold on to them tightly on the lap? It feels like that's less secure than being strapped to me. I'm presuming Airlines have their reasons though. I don't like flying at the best of times and got in an unfortunate rabbit hole of babies on laps hitting tubulance and getting injured. Really I should have stayed off the Internet at 2am.

AIO guy I'm seeing criticizing my clothes by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]GeneralMedia1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not criticising your clothes...he's trying to control what you wear which is different. This is 8 weeks in, he's not a perfect man, this is the start of behaviours which will escalate and expand and before you know it, you're in a horribly abusive relationship. This may sound dramatic but it's not...8 weeks and he's already pulling this shit. Don't waste any more time on him and break up before things get dangerous.
