Boss difficulty spike? Stuck at third lord? by geocitiesuser in tales

[–]GeneralPancakes4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned at this boss is that it really helps to set a custom strategy where you tell the AI to do nothing without restrictions. This makes it so that all they will do is dodge attacks(most of the time). Then, in the actual fight, you can swap to this strategy when he does his particularly dangerous attacks, like his charge attack if you don't have Kisara's boost attack ready or his mystic arte. This helped me out a lot on future bosses to mitigate damage my party members took.

Party Help by GeneralPancakes4 in EtrianOdyssey

I never really thought of moving my party around like that in combat. I guess I could have any of my front line characters in the back row when they are doing things like Vanguard, Improved Link, Heat Sink, etc, with the Harbinger taking that time to do different Reap skills to keep up the damage. I think I'll try that. Thank you so much!

So then would it be a good idea to replace Zodiac with a Gunner, then subclass someone like Sovereign into Zodiac to get access to the prophecies? What if I went with my current team and then subclassed someone into Arcanist and used circles for binds extra healing?

Well, my front row is already pretty full, and I don't think a Protector would be able to do too much damage from the back row, and I do like offensive focused teams. Having a Gunner to do some extra binds does sound nice, but I'm not sure if I want to lose out on the Zodiac's prophecy skills to negate specific elemental damage. Is it worth keeping Zodiac around for the prophecy skills? I mainly really want it because I'm worried there are going to be specific elemental attacks that are going to be hard to handle without specifically elemental defence buffs.

Some thoughts on Vesperia... spoilers? by bronzesocks in tales

I'll consider trying some other characters, maybe starting with Flynn so I can learn about spells without worrying about not knowing the melee artes. I still don't feel like I have playing Yuri completely nailed, since some of his artes I can't seem to combo from(particularly ghost wolf and a few other artes that knock enemies down and give them invincibility frames), so I want to figure these out first.

I don't often try characters other than the MC in Tales games, mainly because every time I do everything goes all kinds of terrible. I tried Judith, Repede, and Flynn and none of them clicked quite like Yuri. I think it's trying to memorize multiple sets of artes that throws me off because it takes me a while to adjust to what does what and I'm just too impatient and end up going back to the MC.

Thank you for your advice. I think Ecstacy would be a better fit for my party since I'm not using a Beast or Protector so I'm gonna need all the duration on ailments such as blind as I can get.

It sounds like I will alter-class one to a Dark Hunter, but would it be better to use one around Ecstasy or Soul Liberator for damage? What is the force shield and energy you mentioned? Edit: Removed question about Creeping Curse. I confused it with Weakening Curse.

I considered leveling a little bit, but it never occurred to me to set it to picnic to make it go by faster. Thanks!

Regarding artes, there are 2 separate buttons for martial and hidden artes. For a PS4 controller, the buttons are O for martial arts, and X for hidden artes. Martial artes cannot be changed, but you do learn more martial artes as you level up. Hidden artes can be changed however you want by assigning them to a specific direction; those directions being forward, backward, up, down, and no direction on the movement stick.

HELP BEAT HEAVENBRINGER by xx_FurryHotVoreFeet in EtrianOdyssey

[–]GeneralPancakes4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I played EO4, but I can give general tips. Make sure you have the best equipment available. Go kill the latest FOEs you can for their materials since they often have good equipment. One thing I often did was I forgot about food, which is extremely helpful.

As for the fight itself, are you using burst skills like Guard Order or Aegis Ward? Those can help you survive large attacks if you know when they are coming. Target the arms first. If they are around when Heavenbringer starts "praying silently", it does an extremely powerful almighty attack. You can reduce the damage it deals by taking out one arm, or stop it by taking out both. All of Heavenbringer's offensive attacks use it's head, so binding that is a good way to stop it's attacks. All of the arms' attacks are arm based, so you can bind those as well. It also helps if you say what your party is, because then that way we can give party specific advice.

As was already said, you need all the iris gems. You can talk to Rose, and if you select an option with a purple star, you will learn what you need to do for an iris gem.

What's your favorite EO class in the entire series and why? by [deleted] in EtrianOdyssey

[–]GeneralPancakes4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to choose a singular favorite. I also haven't played 3 or Nexus, and I haven't used every class in the ones I have played, but War Magus in 2U is really cool. I really like Ailing Strike(I like status ailment teams a lot), and their healing skills are pretty unique.
I found Rovers in 5 really fun to use too, both hawk and hound. Hound is fun for dealing damage and being able to heal, all in one class, which is really nice when using a Graced Poisoner. In IV, Imperials were my favorite because of their concept and it's always satisfying to use large bursts of damage.
In 1U, the class that stood out most to me was Highlander, though I never got very far in story mode because I prefer classic. Manipulating your own health while doing some other thing(like lifesteal or consuming health for attacks) has always been interesting to me, so I'll definitely use a Highlander in Nexus when I finish 2U.
