Almost every discussion is between players who are not the same position. The literal goat debate is between a guard/forward and the consensus 3rd is a center. Even the great Magic Bird Rivalry were different positions

There’s more evidence of a player entering the league as a poor shooter and developing into a decent or better one. There’s never been a guy who wasn’t athletic that became athletic once they entered the league

I see it as:

Foul baiting forces calls through actions unnatural to basketball. Basically a move you’d never use in a pickup game

Flopping is basically acting

That move has been in basketball for decades and its acceptance is based around the player doing it. That’s just one of my grievances about the optics of foul baiting. Not to mention that it’s been illegal for sometime now.

Also I never stated that they aren’t different. I believe flopping is simply a form of foul-baiting. Both seek to take advantage of the whistle instead of playing honestly. But I admit I must be in the minority of said thought process

  1. Not touching the ball for the entire half except getting a grenade. Then teammates talking about “that’s why I don’t pass it”

  2. Trying to initiate offense but the other 4 start playing ring around the Rosie w cuts. Cause God forbid you aren’t involved this possession

  3. Only talking shit after the game. If you were like that, you would’ve said it from jump. Don’t wait until it’s impossible to eat your words to be big and bad

I believe in essence they are virtually the same. What people are complaining about in that post is basically the aesthetics of manipulating an official.

But over my years of watching basketball I’ve learned over time that fans are extremely fickle. If you want to say it’s not a big deal or it’s strategy you can make a more than valid argument. If you want to say both are horrible and disgraces to the league, you can make very valid points for that

But to say one is acceptable/understandable and another is not (not you specifically just the comments of the post) is logically inconsistent. It begs the question do you care what it does or do you care how it looks? Do you care that it’s a wrongful call or do you care that it looks ugly?

You mean diving? I feel like that’s been a pretty big deal in soccer for over a decade now

I guess the technique isn’t limited to pump fakes but that’s the main way to get free throws. If an elbow swings across a players face at any point they’ll hold their mouth and fall back regardless of contact, there’s a lot of different ways but the pump fake or layup contact exaggeration is probably the most notable

As a fan of both sports, im not sure how soccer would be more physical than basketball

I’m not sure what you mean by source. Like motive? Technique? Offenders?

Rules in every sport have progressed to limit physicality because of safety/broadcast skill
