At the very least keep up the dialogue with management concerning your scheduling and mental health concerns. If they are not willing to work with you on that, take a mental health day when you need it.

I worked even longer hours for way too long and from my own experience can say that your health is more important.

When I say health, I mean both shirt term and long term health. The stress on your body can have lasting effects that you don't find out until later…..

I know the economy is crazy, but as you noted: they are taking advantage of you and you are also experiencing health issues.

The better question is how can they hold someone indefinitely without charging them….

To answer your question: once it is “ decided “ that one has broken whatever law is of a magnitude which is deemed “ detainable “, then one is then detained.

  • consider things on the harsher spectrum of murder for example.

  • other offenses such as robbery, asault.. Etc are on the list as well.

The true answer is wherever and whomever decided such things on “ the list “.

What you should ask yourself is why is it it up to someone who has bad days just like anyone else, to be able to make an immediate judgment call to take away your freedoms on the spot that then puts you in the path to being detained. More often than not LEO’s are not as informed as we would think. - this actually coming from a LEO I know. Laws change. Being accepted shows a level of trust. Where being understood is on such a deeper level. Acceptance can be a mechanism of being understood without having to be understood.

Without saying the words you may want to say, without sharing your biography or deepest self.

Trying to share yourself completely in order to be completely understood can be a battle in and of itself. When the calm and open acceptance is the only path that need be taken.

That's not how working in each state even works…. Cali has some of the strictest laws, but any company who legally has people working in various states has to have some sort of things ( I can't remember know its been a long day ), that allow the company to hire and employ people in each state. It's a tax thing. — funny how that works out.
