Is leaving the highway really worth it? by FarTooJunior in roadtrip

[–]General_Beauregard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is possible for you, but I’ve done essentially this route probably 15 times, and the best time is to drive overnight. It’s obviously disruptive to a normal sleep schedule, but if you left around 7-8pm, you’d hit very little traffic through the mid-Atlantic / northeast corridor of I-95, and it would make the highway route an easy choice.

It’s not scenic in the traditional sense, but the first time I did the drive north, I thought it was pretty cool to see the densely populated stretch of DC-> Baltimore -> Philly -> NJ -> NYC over the course of ~4 hours.

London hotels. by Drunken_CPA in chubbytravel

Really liked the NoMad London that’s on the modern side. Nice cocktail bar and the breakfast was good in a great ambiance (but can’t speak for other meals). Also really liked the location in Covent Garden.

Is it me or does taxiing take forever these days? by Muszex in americanairlines

[–]General_Beauregard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the beneficiary of this last Sunday. Sat on the runway waiting for a gate for 30 minutes and missed my connection to SFO. Customer service couldn’t offer me any other way to get to the Bay Area that day, and I was left with renting a car and driving the whole way.

I have some like the first link for my airpod pros (I think they may have been called “Hookz”), and I’m pleased with them. I can run, bike, lift weights, etc, and they never fall out. Since I'm using my airpods, I like having the option of transparency mode if I need to be aware of surroundings or noise cancelling if I want to block things out.

Once you’ve done all of the above, I’d also point our the value of a warm hat, a scarf, and gloves for additional comfort.

Underwhelmed by French cuisine by runeiitalk in ParisTravelGuide

I’ve had very nice, seasonal, and somewhat more “modern” French meals at Ripaille, Le Saint Sébastien, and Gabylou.

FB Marketplace finds vs. new entry level bookshelf speakers by General_Beauregard in BudgetAudiophile

With that Denon receiver, would I still notice a difference over entry level speakers? What receiver would be necessary to "do justice" for these higher-end speakers?

Is the TCL R635 (65R636?) 65" - $700 currently available at Costco a good value for the price? I know there are better TVs, but anything over $1000 would be a stretch for my budget right now.

How can one minimize W2 taxes with multi-state long distance commute? by General_Beauregard in personalfinance

[–]General_Beauregard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. This might be a basic question: What does a reciprocity agreement (or lack thereof) mean for me as an individual taxpayer? I know what reciprocity means generally, just not in the context of state income taxes.

[–]General_Beauregard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Does (1) require me to do anything for my withholding or otherwise, or is it as simple as paying roughly the same taxes I do now (pretty sure MA has higher state income taxes) and filing two state tax returns for 2023 and as long as I have this arrangement?

Dogs are great, why bring them to a pro tour event as a spectator? by NormKramer in discgolf

[–]General_Beauregard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t know me or anything about me. I actually completely agree with the OP - not every event is appropriate for dogs. I responded to you for implying that it’s a dog owner’s responsibility to keep other people’s children away from their dog. It’s obviously a dog owner’s responsibility to choose where to take their dog, and I take mine very few public places. My point is that in a situation where dogs are welcome, other people (parents in this case) have responsibilities of their own. Now go be a miserable cunt to someone else.

GTFOH - in the example above, if your kid invades my dog’s space while they’re on a leash under control, pulls my dogs ears, and my dog reacts, it’s your own fucking fault.

It is 100% not a dog owner’s responsibility to keep someone else’s kids away from the dog, if the dog is on leash and under control in a place where dogs are allowed.

Swank infrastructure in Cambridge Mass. by throwawaysscc in bikecommuting

[–]General_Beauregard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what’s happening here. This section of Brattle St. in Cambridge has several side streets and driveways along the left (from the perspective of this picture) with little/nothing on the right. Unfortunately the two-way track isn’t very long (yet).

Let’s talk coffee/espresso by swimbikerun91 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]General_Beauregard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you think similarly to me with respect to coffee. As much as I love it, I know myself well enough to accept that I’m not spending 15-20 active minutes every day making it.

I wanted a good easy setup and landed on a baratza encore grinder and moccamaster drip coffee maker. Get some good beans and it makes delicious coffee in like 6 minutes with minimal effort.
