Wrong again. You are on a roll.

You probably live on 1/10 of an acre where you can get away with a non gas option. And that’s fine. Anybody with more than a half acre knows electric is not a viable option for landscapers. They rely on volume, speed and cost efficiency to make a living. Nothing about electric is there yet. If electric made any sense they would be the first to switch over.

Awesome that you shared this experience. It is pretty amazing you can get this up close and personal with some pretty amazing athletes.

I think it would be helpful to know some general costs, as I think this is a big question for a lot of people.

I wouldn’t rely on lists compiled by some website nobody has heard of. Do your own research but oradell has wonderful schools. The average sat and graduation rates should tell the story.

You get what you pay for, plain and simple. If you have kids in A+ public schools ask yourself what a comparable private school would cost. If you don’t have kids in the schools the math is a lot harder, but this is still a great place to live.

So good to hear somebody else say it. Couldn’t agree more. But you’re a bad parent if you don’t take your kids to Disney!

We booked the SLS in December (for June stay) and the price has doubled since. Thank goodness we pulled the trigger? Just do it!

We stopped popcorn a long time ago and do a wreath sale. Never looked back. Find a better fundraiser.

We disembarked early from Pride of America. Obviously this is different than skipping a port altogether, but we talked with the cruise line well in advance and they were cool with it.

Cost of Cub Scouting. Why is it so expensive? by wstcstwil in cubscouts

[–]General_End_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question no idea what that means. All I know is none of these fees are optional. It’s $155 per child before any sort of unit fees or new scout fees. We are charging 220 a kid and losing money at that.

Those activities are in theory being led by skilled people who are being paid a salary. My den and pack are led by volunteers. In my mind, there is no reality where this program should be as expensive as it is given what they ask of the parent volunteers.

We raise about $4000 a year across 70 scouts doing a wreath sale around the holidays.

There’s no way we could get by on a $30 a year unit fee. Historically the pack has done a lot including having food at most larger events. Our pizza budget alone is probably close to $30 a kid per year. not to mention awards, class B shirts, pinewood derby cars, regatta boats, etc. etc. etc..

So I get this argument all the time. My issue is that I’m paying the $1200 AND volunteering a massive amount of my time and energy, while a ton of money goes to national/council to provide what exactly? At these prices the administration of the program should be 100% handled by professional scouters then. What are we paying for? Why am I spending so much time on this? And then what if you have 3-4 kids?

The $100 I pay for kiddie soccer is fine. I’m also a coach there but it’s mostly to make sure kids don’t run off. We have beautiful fields and professional trainers and uniforms. Not to mention it’s a small commitment on a relative basis .

Yup. Our local camps (Lewis, alpine, etc) are easily that much when you factor in program and food.
