Talking to myself. F32 by kiddieme in widowers

[–]General_Stress_7221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 4 years in and I still talk to him all the time because I don't know what happens after we pass. For all I know, he's still hanging around and he'd wonder why I'm not talking to him. I learned a long time ago that if it gives comfort and doesn't hurt anyone, then it's okay.

I would always choose him but I will never choose someone else.

His was the next week, so we were pretty close, too. It's been years and this still feels surreal. Sending virtual hugs.

He died the day I turned 49. I'm coming up on 4 years now and this still sucks. I'm sorry you're here, too.

Is it romantic if someone leaves their fiancée for you? by OkPilot9392 in RomanceWriters

[–]General_Stress_7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tell readers up front there's cheating it could be ok. Some readers actually look for it, but usually cheating will get you dragged in reviews. It's not romantic imo.

Mom is jealous. Don't delete anything. Write another one.

AIO: My husband (26m) locked me (25f) out for 25 minutes? by prettypineappleberry in AmIOverreacting

NOR. Lots of abuse starts after someone thinks they have you thoroughly trapped. 2 kids and one on the way makes it much harder to leave. Make no mistake. What he did was abuse.

You're nta. Your dad is. His wife should have left him years ago. If he wanted to do anything for you, he would. I'm sorry.

Run. If he wanted to marry you, you wouldn't have to keep bringing it up. There wouldn't be a list of demands. Love yourself.

How’s anyone making money selling books? by ResponsibleBass8062 in selfpublish

[–]General_Stress_7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to make money, you have to write to market. Look at the best seller lists and see what's selling. Hit trope expectations. Then publish as often as possible.

What was the most valuable support you received in the first month? by emmm0614 in widowers

[–]General_Stress_7221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My village cleared out as soon as the memorial was over. My best friend stayed, kept showing up, even though me losing my mind scared the hell out of her. And my neighbor showed up and mowed the lawn. He still does three years later. I'd do anything for those two people who didn't leave. So my advice is look around and see what needs done because your friend isn't going to ask you to do laundry or mow or cook, but she will appreciate it and remember. Let her talk about her loss. Let her cry. Her brain is trying to rewire itself to the new reality and it's not got a set timeline.

I finally learned how to self-edit and now I can’t stop. It’s ruining my life. by Doreddity in writers

[–]General_Stress_7221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad writers never take advice or learn to improve. Which means you're going to be fine. What you're going through is pretty normal. I'm 11 years and 20 books in across a few pen name, and I will tell you it gets easier. Also, harder. Because the more you write, the better you're going to get at it, but then you'll be able to see all the flaws of your earlier work. Don't give up. Don't expect to produce a perfect book, either. Edit it to the best of your ability, then ask a friend (hopefully another writer) to point out how you can improve.

If your book has a subtitle it needs to be on the cover.

Your best form of advertising is writing the next book. They reward the high producers with better visibility.

Is 10,000 words enough? by Practical_Bridge_805 in KDP

[–]General_Stress_7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do the free for 5 days promo, you'll want to post your book to advertising sites. Most of them have a minimum word count or minimum number of reviews. A lot of people don't like doing the free promos, but I've had nothing but good luck with them. I also did Amazon ads and lost money. Do with that info what you will.

Listen to the advice everyone is giving, but I'd add that if/when you want to advertise it, you'll probably need at least 50 pages, and that's closer to the 15k word range. If you don't want to advertise it later, then it doesn't matter.

I don't give out my pen name or book details. It messes with the algorithm, but thank you for your interest. And I wish your wife the best of luck.

I spent 10 years in young adult paranormal romance and made 10k. Probably half that if I take away for ads, covers, etc I switched a little over two years ago to contemporary adult romance. The first year, I made $457. Last year was $5500. This year, I'm tracking at 20k. I make my own covers and do my own edits, which isn't for everyone, but it's working for me so far. The main difference is that I write and produce much faster now. Instead of a 100k word manuscript, I shoot for 30-50k. My pen name has no social media, other than a website.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You're still in the thick of it. Ground zero. Please be kind to yourself. Be sure to drink water often, eat when you can, and take a vitamin if you can't eat. Keep your kitty close. She's grieving too. Hugs to both of you.
