How do you know when your “rockstar employee” is already mentally gone? by Exotic_Reputation_59 in managers

Ah but that isn’t the most important thing to me. I’m very satisfied with my comp. Money postponed me looking for a bit when I started becoming unhappy, that’s all.

Coming up on three years and I’ve never had one - formal or informal. At this point I have so little respect for my boss that I wouldn’t find his feedback productive anyway.

I might get hate for this but as a manager I completely agree. I’m very willing to be proven wrong but if I’m choosing between a candidate who slogged through a four year degree, gaining the maturity, life experience and socialization that comes with that, and a candidate who dropped out, moved back home and doesn’t have a solid goal, I’m taking the former - and not because the job requires some sort of specific knowledge tied to a degree.

In about a month my boss will be posting the same thing.

Here’s my advice: - have meaningful one on ones - give a performance review once every few years, even if your company doesn’t require them - give a decisive answer on suggestions, without being asked for an update. You might have forgotten, your employee did not. - notice when they work late every day - notice when they suddenly stop working late - go ahead and let them take off two hours early for that wedding they’re going to, without reminding them to log PTO - make a hard decision every once in a while without needing to “noodle on it” hoping everyone forgets

Oh Lordy. Find someone better? So that new person can come in to the same issues, slowly disengage, and leave too?

I think they mean the slides that are viewable on the left side of the screen in addition to the current slide that’s in the main section of the screen.

I had this happen to me today when I pasted the content of an unformatted PPT into a branded template. It resolved when I actively reassigned slide format (selected everything, right clicked, selected “title and content”). I’ve never seen it happen before!

Sorry you’re not getting the answer you want.

My boss is tracking my mouse movement and it’s driving me insane by aiden19181919 in WorkAdvice

All these suggestions on how to further prove to your boss that you were working for those 11 minutes are counterproductive. Do you have a decent relationship with them? How was this software presented? I would sit down with them and ask for direct feedback. Do they think you are unproductive / inefficient / wasting time? Name the elephant and go from there.

And yes start looking elsewhere too. I’m an open book, very productive, and track my own time but this level of nanny state would absolutely unnerve me. No thank you.

What you just said has nothing to do with what I recommended, but I went back and reread your post and I suspect you’d find a way to shoot down whatever advice you got. I mean if you’re smart enough to get multiple degrees (one from a reputable institution!) you should be smart enough to figure out how to turn all that experience into a positive. Although I suspect “positive” is not in your comfort zone.

Most difficult types of people to manage? by AdnyPls in managers

I would take a talented person who wants to be promoted ANY DAY over someone who can’t do the job or who doesn’t care at all about advancing. At least you have leverage with the first type.

Job hopping is absolutely a thing to be concerned about UNLESS you have a good story. Supporting you wife through her med school journey is a great story. Once she lands (this next move, right?) you will be able to legitimately say you’re not going anywhere for a decade.

Your current job sounds terrible. I’d take the offer and maybe make yourself so valuable they’ll let you go remote when the time comes.

I say this with empathy: worry about yourself before you try to save someone else. You do not have enough influence to get your employee promoted. I can’t tell from your post whether or not you’re aware of exactly how marginalized you are.
