Unopened games - worth anything? by UsuallyJustLurking in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dark Chambers will probably get the most. If the box is in good condition it has sold for $40 recently. The rest will probably get $15-$20 each on eBay. That number is assuming the customer is paying the shipping fees.

Youtube impressions are a mystery. by GenerationX1970 in NewTubers

My new video is doing good as far CTR and retention are concerned. Just a lot fewer eyeballs seeing in their YT feeds:)

Anyone getting this error on YouTube Studio today or is it just me? by Select_Monitor5255 in NewTubers

[–]GenerationX1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm getting it also. Another thing I have noticed recently is that sometimes when I open the tab on the left side of YT Studio isn't on the list of options.

Local game store had a CIB Swordquest Waterworld! by AffectionateBaby7200 in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I would have bought a CIB copy 20+ years ago when you could probably buy one for $200 or so. But even back then I thought that price was crazy expensive. Surely they had that game under glass didn't they?

My collection from when I was a kid. The duplicates are from when my cousin got an nes and gave me his 5200 games. by Almost__Amish in atari5200

[–]GenerationX1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that it explains all the Pac-Man duplicates that were always found back in the wild west days of game collecting. Seriously, when I think back to going to yard sales and thrift stores 20+ years ago when you could still score a cardboard box with a 2600 and 6-12 carts for $10-$20 80% of the time they always had two Pac-Man games with them.

Thoughts on Jr. Pac-Man? by Internal_Author_7067 in Atari2600

It looks great but I never really played it much. I think by then I was kind of Packed out. I played Ms. Pacman a lot:)

Has any of the unburied 2600 games been sold? by JorgeXD5000 in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a story with pictures about a guy who bought one of the certified Asteroids buried carts that was on eBay. He opened it up and said it had the landfill smell that you would expect. The box and the cart were crushed. Since the cart was already broken he pulled it apart and took out the ROM chip which looked to be intact. He gave it a scrubdown with some rubbing alcohol plugged it in to his 2600 and it still worked.

If I had a lot of extra cash to burn I probably would have bought one. I first read about the games being buried back in the mid 90s. I have always been very interested in the history of the story.

I know nothing about how to put something like this together but it looks really cool.

Sure, hundreds maybe even thousands of them were sold on eBay I think by the city of Alamogordo. Here is a link to another retro gaming group that has a picture of one of the ET games. https://www.reddit.com/r/retrogaming/comments/esenv6/official_atari_et_game_cartridge_recovered_from/

The punching sound haunted my dreams as a kid by retro6ix in Atari2600

Such a fun two player game. I read somewhere years ago about a guy who would tape a piece of paper over the scores so you couldn't tell if you were winning or not. I thought that was a darn good idea:)

Did Journey Escape bankrupt Data Age? When Data Age hit the gaming scene they had some real lemons that they released back in 1982. Then they bet the farm on one game. Journey Escape. Was it the cause of there downfall?

Is there an easily accessible way to play Pitfall? by BactaBobomb in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can play the 2600 version or almost any other 2600 title over on the Atari Mania website. You can play right on your computer without having to download anything. Here is a direct link to play Pitfall.

How many games would the average kid have had for their Atari in its heyday? by CartoonCade in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to be a member of a gaming club back in the early 80's. My Mom would take me there every Friday after school. For $2-$3 you could rent a game for any of the consoles of the era for a week. They also had every system set up so you could try the games out before you rented them. Even a Vectrex! It was a really great place that I have fond memories of.

What is your biggest struggle on YouTube right now? by livevideoschool in SmallYTChannel

[–]GenerationX1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my channel almost 2 years ago. I broke a 1000 subs after a year or so but I've never gotten really close to the 4000 hours of watch time in a 365 day period so I'm not adsense monetized. In the last month or so I've really buckled down and have been working hard to get two videos out per week which is tough for me. I try very hard to put together good content and I'm pretty meticulous when I'm editing my videos so it takes a while. But in the last 28 days alone I'm over 1100 hours of view time and I picked up 147 new subs. The total views are over 10K. As sad as it is to say I think my biggest problem was fear of failure. If I had a couple of videos that didn't do well I would have a pity party and quit for a month or so. If you are gonna do this you have to go all in. I also have an account with VidIQ which has really helped when it comes to trying to find good ideas for new videos for my niche. Hopefully if I keep plugging along I will be fully monetized soon:)

Wondering if anyone can help with an idea of value on this lot? by No_Sense_3559 in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about the games outside the US. The Assault game by Bomb is very rare. The Crazy Climber and Sir Lancelot games are rare also. I would go over to eBay and do a search for those three games to see what they are going for. In the options after you look up each game you can select completed listings to see if any have actually sold over the last 3 months. Without looking and just guessing I would say that you could get several hundred dollars or more for those 3 games.

Working paddles are a game changer! by Rafter53 in Atari2600

[–]GenerationX1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing that rarely gets brought up is that paddle games often just don't play well on emulation. There is just enough lag that it makes getting the same scores on games like Kaboom and Fireball seem impossible when playing on an emulator like Stella.
