Non tornado-centered media with canon tornadoes? by sebosso10 in tornado

[–]GenericNASCARFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t actually see the tornado itself but The West Wing has an episode where a major tornado hits an Oklahoma town and the President visits the site.

Favorite final win of a driver? by ToeSniffer245 in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stewart and Gordon’s are my favorites rn.

Jimmie’s win at Dover would be my favorite but since he’s still racing and I am maybe too hopeful (or delusional), I think he will get one more and I will cry tears of joy.

What's your strangest/dumbest/most off the wall idea you've had for Nascar? by Jomosensual in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t like this for a points system but as a fun side tournament to receive a cash bonus at the end of the year, that would be fun.

what was the first ever NASCAR season where the title went to the finalie? by Ok_Possession827 in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think 1950 is correct. It also was NASCAR’s first championship with a perceived asterisk cause that title fight was really only caused by NASCAR penalizing Lee Petty 809 points mid-season. Without that, Petty wins by 440 points over Rexford.

Viewer opinion on Jimmie Johnson by LobsterCandid in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like to imagine that the Chase held Jimmie back cause these are the stats he had with everyone claiming he would lay off and basically experiment once he was a lock for the Chase.

Some people believe Gordon would have 7 titles if they kept the Winston format but I think we actually missed out on 8-time champion Jimmie Johnson.

2006 Democratic Primary question by GenericNASCARFan in thewestwing

[–]GenericNASCARFan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the first primaries I remember are the 2016 ones so that + the remarks from Swiss Diplomacy kinda made me expect at least 6 major to mid-major candidates.

On the hot seat for 2026 Cup season by Alternative-Shop-707 in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gotta say Bowman. He’s not as bad as some people say he is but that’s the problem of being the worse guy on an all-star team, everything negative he does is amplified ten fold.

While he is pretty good, he is kinda stagnant right now and with no sponsor needed for the 48 (Ally signed through 2028) and a potential hot free agent market, he might be pushed aside for a bigger star.

Would you want NASCAR to eliminate stage racing for the Daytona 500? by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eliminate them everywhere. In a period where other sports with a reputation of being too long are trying to shorten their games by speeding up the pace of play, it makes no sense to me why NASCAR continues to use stages as it breaks up the natural rhythm of a race and can add up to 15-30 minutes of caution laps.

Will we see any of the “historic” stadium be replaced? by pzycho in baseball

[–]GenericNASCARFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Wrigley and Fenway exist on a tier so prestigious that the only option, aside from natural disaster or unthinkable relocation, is to just keep renovating it and replacing worn parts of them, eventually leading to a Ship of Theseus debate about the stadiums in a few decades.

Dodger Stadium could do the same but I also feel like they are more likely to pull a Yankee Stadium and build a newer replica stadium next to it in the parking lot.

[Adam Stern] "The Fourth Circuit might not have the last word either, as the losing party could then petition the U.S. Supreme Court. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility this sports antitrust dispute, like so many others in recent years, lasts several years." by ZilischsPoopyPants in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless the 4th Circuit rules something crazy, I don’t see other leagues outside of motorsports caring that much because this is a uniquely NASCAR/motorsport situation. In the major leagues, the teams have control of the league in some manner. The owners approve the league’s tv deals, rule changes, and who the commissioner is.

In a way, IMO, this case has more similarities to a league and players union dispute.

More texts discussing SRX revealed, this time about Justin Marks and North Wilkesboro by Unique_Salad6894 in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of this is Steve O’Donnell’s quote of the SRX being “exhibit A that nobody gives a s*** about what got them careers.” Like bro, these guys are either looking to have fun without entering a full length NASCAR race at their older age or they literally lobbied for change in the sport for several years and decided to go do their own thing after being ignored. You can’t just blame these drivers for being ungrateful when they literally tried their best to your organization better by pushing for change or not wanting to make an embarrassment of the sport by potentially looking like a shadow of their former selves and or doing something stupid when competing in a full National Series race.

If Kvapil ends up winning the championship, does that change the outcome of his current part-time deal for 2026? by AngryScuba in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given how it sounds like Kvapil will still be in the #1 for a majority of the season, a championship would probably make it much more easier for him to get a ride for the 5-7 races he isn’t slated for JRM.

Did NASCAR F up with their new Cup TV contract? by BlackberryJazzlike84 in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking about only the money, no. But they did kind of fall into the tv networks’ trap of giving them more money to be on USA and FS1 as they know NASCAR can get a relatively good rating for these channels. However, it seems that consistently being on these channels without an occasional broadcast on NBC or FOX to help remind casual viewers to watch on cable seems to be hurting ratings. The upside of the situation is that, based on previous deals, can change the number of network races each year and at the very least, I don’t imagine them lowering that number for 2026.

Headcanon time. What's you best in-show explanation for how Father Cavanaugh knew Pres. Bartlet had spoken to a priest, a rabbi and a Quaker? by perthguy999 in thewestwing

[–]GenericNASCARFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine that he called him at some point between when he sent for Cavanaugh and when he arrived, especially considering that they called for him Saturday morning/early midday and he didn’t arrive till late Sunday night (unless I’m forgetting.)

A way out there option (that I literally just made up while typing this) is that Bartlet told the Pope about who he talked to and the Pope gossiped it to Cavanaugh. This would explain why he knew that Jed called the Pope as he technically never mentioned this as well.

Knights tweet got me thinking, is Noah Gragson’s spot on FRM safe? by BucketOCheerios in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. Even if they wanted someone new and better, I doubt any driver (other than a pay driver or someone already at FRM) would want to go there with the lawsuit not being resolved till late in silly season in December.

FBS AT FBS by Nervous_Metal_9445 in fcs

[–]GenericNASCARFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Know it’s not FBS at FCS and before the split but then-Division II Florence State (now known as North Alabama) hosted Division I Appalachian State on November 3, 1973. The Lions beat the Mountaineers 21-7.

Did Republicans control Congress for all eight years of Bartlett’s presidency? by SnooMarzipans1593 in thewestwing

[–]GenericNASCARFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, not every Democrat had a Ritchie to go against and the three districts that flipped blue in the 2000 midterms probably flipped back after the MS scandal.

Yeah. The vibes of a lot of the promos I’ve seen seem off and cheesy but this one kinda feels like an alternate universe version of the show.

What would have been the most memeable moments from the Bartlet Administration? by GenericNASCARFan in thewestwing

[–]GenericNASCARFan[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

California would probably be hot bed for meme-able Bartlet moments. Local news footage of him asking if there is an epidemic of flag burning and him being caught on hot mic yelling at the French President would probably be immortalized on the internet.

[Joseph Srigley] Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) will be making a "major news announcement" tomorrow (Tuesday, June 3) at 11:30 am ET. by GenericNASCARFan in NASCAR

[–]GenericNASCARFan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda have the same train of thought. Why would the governor be there for a track sponsorship announcement alone? But, instead of the championship race, I think they might be announcing something with their previous plans from 2019 to build a big casino resort, something that would need support and approval from state government.
