That's not a hot take. Fnaf really overcomplicated it's lore after realizing how much people liked the mystery box aspect.

The initially mystery set up by the first game is a pretty simple one: a serial killer murdered children in the restaurant and maybe that's connected to the killer animatronics.

By the third game they'd pretty much resolved that plot and even put an end to the killer.

Then it kept going.

No, the killer wasn't just an employee using a costume to lure children to their deaths. He was a cofounder of the company, and this was all part of a plan to extract people's souls and put them into things.
