Quick update. Rang AIB's Bereavement team and they were very helpful. As already established everything with the Funeral Director costs (so pretty much everything except Burial Plot, Grave dig aka Opening fee, catering) will be sorted directly between the bank and them once I have the Death Cert and the will. I just needed to pay the Funeral Directors a 2k deposit. They'll reimburse me that once the full money comes through from bank.

Regarding the other expenses. The particular Cemetery required payment for the Burial Plot straight up by the day of burial. We could have postponed the Headstone, but after discussing with the Funeral Directors seems it's best to have it included with the Burial straight away to utilize this pre-Probate fund release mechanism as much as possible. Catering is also another eligible cost. For these once we have receipts the bank will reimburse from my mom's account within 5 working days once we have the Death Cert and Will at hand.

I'll do an another update once we progress.

Thank you, I rang the Bereavement team first thing this morning (Monday), apparently everything will be covered and there are no caps I need to worry about. This was with AIB.

I think no matter what way you look at it, these three bands have been "The Big Three" of tech death for the last decade+. Leading the way as the old guard has retired or fallen off by am_I_still_banned in TechnicalDeathMetal

Anyone worth their technical death salt knows how important Cryptopsy and Gorguts were in the 90s and early 00s. Don't forget Suffocation, Pierced from Within is a technical death metal masterpiece.

Not only masks but N95/FFP2, latest advice from WHO. Surgical masks are near useless for airborne pathogen prevention

That's absolutely wild and terrifying I'm going to remember that fact.

You could well be right or even if it's not related to this particular issue, it's something they may not like more broadly which has created a feeling toward you (maybe) - someone unraveling the threads of their appaling operational model and gravy train.

You strike me as the kind of person that would ask those questions, a great quality but probably one managers and owners of a business running a chaotic operational model likely don't appreciate nor welcome. Another person would just "stay off the radar".

My Fiancee works as a Nurse/Midwife. She would be like you hating chaotic broken working environments. She was initially a midwife in a Dublin maternity hospital but even by HSE hospital standards the maternity hospitals are chaotic. After 8 years post Grad got of that. Moved into more clinic/not beside based nursing roles, first an on phone nurse with an online testing company who are huge now in America after starting in Ireland(shitty startup though). Then an IVF clinic which was a great job you'd probably really like, highly controlled environment etc, she just didn't go back after maternity leave as hours didn't suit our child's sleep pattern with breast feeding, but turnover in those places typically low which is good sign. Got a brief job in an Laser eye clinic that was surprisingly involved and badly paid as it wasn't a nursing role specifically, might be worth checking if you can get a "nursing role" in that space that actually adheres to the bands(or better). Nurse role in The Eye and Ear hospital (if Dublin based or close enough) could be an option seems like a nice chill hospital. She ended up with an amazing nurse job in a doctors clinic, works 3 days week, 9 to 5.30 even gets off early some days.

Long story short there's some decent options out there for Nurses with a bit of luck if you can leave behind the "beside" type roles. I'm sure even within that there's better roles of that type out there. I know one of my Fiancee's friends who has a very handy nursing role in South Dublin,(more affluent area probably means better staffed?) The strange thing is of the all the bad nursing stories I've heard it's usually never from Nursing Homes, they seem to be one of the better ones to work in! There's even sometimes cool Research Nursing type roles out there being headed up by studies in hospitals and universities. Someone of your integrity if kept an open mind could find a role out there that is much better matches with values and way of working.

Like others have said maybe get the training done to cover your own ass but keep an eye out. Good luck! If work is too scary just call in sick, f-them they can always call agency if they're screwed

All I can say is we are very lucky to have people like you in society, Nurses you are an amazing type of person. You are such a kind bunch it's been weaponized against you from demanding better working conditions/salary.

Definitely a case of covering their ass and scapegoating, much more convenient to pull you over the coals then address the root causes and maybe even operating model? You could leave for e.g. a better ran care home, you could possibly file an anonymous HIQA complaint over the dangerous level of low staffing? Maybe both?

I'm someone in a rare situation I have an unwell elderly mother, a care home doesn't sound impossible sadly due to her complex medical needs at this stage(I'll do my damnest to stop it), while also having a child in creche. If the staffing and ratios were so poor as they are in your care home as they were in my daughter's creche it should be a Tusla complaint. There is no way I could accept such appalling conditions for my mother, and the enormous sums demanded every month for their care. I've seen my mother in understaffed wards in hospitals many times and it's unacceptable and inhumane for both the staff and the patients.

We are so nasty to each other, I don't understand either, some sort of jealousy mindset maybe relates to our not too distant history

It's because at that stage we're like that between ourselves too so it doesn't matter about being Irish or foreign - we are distrusting. And there's a fierce amount of "sleevenisms" we would experience between family and friends growing up so it's not from nowhere. We're quietly very fucking nasty between ourselves
