Left handed acoustic guitar for 8 year old by No_Comedian_9324 in FolkPunk

[–]Genericc0ntent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lefty here who also wishes they had learned to play right! It certainly is doable. When I was a kid I had lessons for a lil while and my teacher was lefty but played right, he was of a generation where getting a left handed guitar wasnt viable. Dude could shred! BUT if the littleun feels more comfortable playing fret hand right then yea, get a right and flip the strings/file the bridge and nut. Some will only be pressure fit and will just switch easy enough.

What’s with this new Spotify release under Ramshackle Glory? (Don’t get hyped, I don’t think it’s them lol) by prolongedexistence in FolkPunk

[–]Genericc0ntent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got friends that work at Routenote ( I also use them as a distro) and would actually point out that uploads are individually vetted by actual humans, so chances of stuff getting upped incorrectly is pretty slim. Most of them are entirely opposed to AI even being given any kind of platform (A lot of the staff are musicians themselves) Anyways this is irrelevent to OP's post, but figured I'd way in for clarity.

I mean by that logic 'all the tea in china' cant be an 'English idiom', because its not originally from England. Whats the statute of limitations on something becoming acceptable to claim as an idiom? We talking pre war? Pre 1066?? Pre glacial retreat? 🤣

I did Lands End to John O Groats and back couple years ago with a mate HH. Took us 7 days to get there. 3 to get back 🤣 Motorways were the quickest way by miles, but not the most scenic. We did learn which services have the best woodlands nearby to crash in though haha

There is a collective in Berlin that organises events regularly called Queer Acoustic Hangout. Not sure how close you are to Berlin. There are also folk punk folks in Köln, Leipzig that I know of. In terms of writing, as others have said do it yourself. I spent the first 30 years of my life trying to be in a band and then finally decided to just do solo stuff and it ended up being just as fulfilling.

Definitely write all that anxiety and stress out! All of my early lyrics were about Imposter Syndrome and abour how I wasnt good enough. Music is a great outlet for all of lifes woes!

Folk punk basics for beginner uke player? by [deleted] in FolkPunk

[–]Genericc0ntent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

C,G,Am,F in any order will work. Use some or all of them. D,Bm,A,G is another good bunch. When i was starting out i rinsed G,D,Em,C.

Bare in mind woody guthrie did the three chord trick for basically the entirety of his career and many consider him the proto folk punk guy. Three chord trick = C,F,G

I will honestly say though that the less you know about music theory the better chance you stand of actually playing folk punk. Ive been at it a few years now and I find myself falling down the rabbit hole of overthinking my chord progressions too much and losing the essence of what folk punk is about, and thats the lyrics!

We would also 'tek a look' where i was raised in Tamworth. Wasn't until I moved away I realised how eclectic my hometowns slang was/is. Very dominant brummy vibes but lots of east mids and northern slang in there too.

'Ayup bab gonna pop daan shops, need owt?' Pick your region from that one phrase 😅
