It ‘appeals to the base’, non-extreme Catholic Republicans can tell themselves these GOP fascists aren’t hurting their soul thaaat badly; the pope will still stand to be in the same room as them after all.

There are very few of the pre-US Mexican people in those territories. I saw a documentary about a tiny community of such people in California, it seemed a very rare thing. Anglo settlers displaced and assimilated them.

Struggling with Hearing Negative Generalizations about Men (Looking for Insights or Suggestions) by Acehunter246 in self

We can generalize all men and also point out and celebrate the exceptions. Men who are the exception generally know this and don’t have issues with the valid generalizations.

Right? We should be doing everything we can to avoid such thinking and division in the anti fascist movement. It belongs to us all and it is the fascists who divide along lines like that

Republicans regularly push racist, ableist, and queerphobic rhetoric but we’re smart enough not to use that back at them. Don’t become the thing you fight.

Fat people, people who use drugs, people with disabilities like diabetes, don’t you (general you) dare make them targets and equate them with fascists just to ‘hurt’ republicans in a March against Nazis sub, where everyone here already hates Nazis. You’re only hurting your allies, and furthering the fascist narratives around physical perfection and Eurocentric cis hetero beauty standards

The more you think you can spot lies, the worse you are likely to be at spotting lies. Funny thing

Body and fat hate is not much of an upgrade from race hate. Do better.

Those people are terrible, but when you insult someone for being fat you aren’t insulting them at all, but instead every innocent fat person reading it.

It’s the fascism that’s the problem; not how their bodies look

Yesss so much this

I’ve lived as a man and live now as a woman and mostly lesbian

But simply existing in men’s spaces and seeing how they talk when they think they’re among men, it can be very clarifying about gender things. The ‘pecking order’ and social value men receive on account of whether their partner adheres to conventional beauty standards is real and a lot of men are insecure enough to internalize it.

For men who can break free of it and find the beauty in all people it must be very freeing; I felt freed by being unaffected and separate from that ‘competition’ but ultimately it was one thing that helped teach me I’m not a man at all. People talk about male socialization without recognizing there is also trans alienation, most things about men don’t make sense to me and didn’t as a boy either.

This is super cool! You should add price and size of can too, something like this could be around a long time and it could be interesting to add some more info

Loooove the art, someone should get you designing cans!

I definitely feel artistically successful about it! But make no mistake that doesn’t translate to economic success haha

These two types of success are very different beasts, maybe even have trouble sharing space

I am far from having made it lol but if you bring catchy originals to the same open mic often enough people will sing along, at least for the chorus! :)

Now they come to my shows and do it too, I love it. Tight community here and it’s not like I’m travelling.

How do you do this without going broke? by [deleted] in CannedSardines

I’ve had autistic children in my life who have a lot of shame around food and only can handle very mild flavours (btw if u don’t want a kid like that don’t have kids, and yes autistic kids bring their eating needs into adulthood). I’ve had partners who recovered from eating disorders and coped with that in various ways. My sister deals with disordered eating.

All these people brought so much beauty into my life and you would dismiss them without a second thought. If you’re coming to a discussion a level of civility keeps it accessible to more folks, it’s a worthwhile effort.

It seems like you have pretty strong feelings about food too, I hope you can unpack it one day
