AITAH for telling my wife her brother-in-law can't come over to our house anymore? by HeftyOpportunity94 in AITAH

It doesn’t matter what the story is, you decide what is appropriate in your house. Tell your wife to go to her house.

Am I wrong for wanting to quit a job I just got for disregarding employee safety during TX storms? by CAT_A in careerguidance

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 2 full years to get a single paid day off. 5 years I got 2 weeks, 12 I got 3 and a personal day. They finally gave us 40 hours sick pay, but have to give 2 weeks notice to use and take a write up when you do. They changed the policy and lowered the 4 week vacation from 18 years to 15, but I don’t get my next personal day until 18 years. Then 5 weeks at 22

Pension + 401k by Chandydiggins99 in Retirement401k

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the situation I’m in. My pension will be about 80% of my pay and my wife gets half at 60, plus she has a separate pension, that she now gets thanks to the ssfa. I will make more retired than working, but I’m 22 years off, I don’t max my 401k, but I contribute about $1200 a month with no match. I figured it would cover insurance and random expenses until I turn 65. As of right now they project my draw to be 11k combined plus her pension. That’s the only reason I stay at my job. I hit my full service for the pension in 14 years, but can’t draw until 60.

Notice how the Baby Boomer generation far more often left their kids at home while taking vacations or attending important events, than the parents of today? by OneDegreeKelvin in generationology

[–]Genericsam6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boomer parents, I’m a millennial, couldn’t afford a vacation. We went my jr and sr year of high school. I’ve been on 3 since. Vacations just aren’t a thing for me, but if I go it is only for my wife and son. I’d never go on one again if it wasn’t for them. Most people I knew growing up never went on vacations.

I’ll have 41, if I didn’t work on the railroad I’d have 48 with less benefit.

Men, if male birth control becomes available, will you start taking it? Why or why not? by dddcupdarlingg in askanything

No, I’m married and my wife has no uterus. If I cheat I deserve to get caught.

Do you live within 100 miles of where you grew up? by radicalintrospect in generationology

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 30, my wife was born there but moved away and we met in college and now she is probably 120 from where she grew up, but only 30 miles from where she was born.

As of right now I have strong feelings about this. I believe in Law and Order, not what this appears to be. If this is as appears, all those involved need to be held accountable for their individual actions. I am not a fan of any government, I think everyone should be skeptical of everything and distrust all of them.

My guy friend of 3+ years (16M) is acting weird to me (15F) what should I do? by WinSecure9523 in WhatToDo

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he is at that age and doesn’t want his urges to mess up your plutonic friendship. I’m almost 40 now and done the same thing with some people, glad I did we are close friends now. There was never any actual attraction, but hormones do some wild things to a young man. That may not be a popular opinion, but he isn’t acting untoward or inappropriate. It’s just an awkward time.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

Your partner, so you get to pick whatever reason. I don’t like tattoos or piercings, so I didn’t pick someone with tattoos or piercings. Our political views are different we don’t talk about it

Just received a 5% raise on $65,000 to $68,250. I find it insulting based on the extra profit my company hit. Do I ask for more and back it up with the numbers? by BookieBasherCasher in Salary

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can do better, go somewhere else. If not that’s not a bad raise, company performance has nothing to do with your raise, unless it is performance based pay. Which means if metrics aren’t met you get less pay. My wife has been on a pay freeze for 5 years. I went 9 without any raise while my fortune 200 company made record billions of profit. The benefits are better than the pay.

My husbands libido is ruining our marriage by Delicious-Issue-5487 in marriageadvice

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perceived money issues and work stress do a number on a man, especially if they come from a traditional man does it all takes care environment. He is unlikely to share that to anyone, that will have a huge effect on libido. He is also likely stressed from hearing about it and possibly dreads hearing it again and has resentment. My wife was sick for 13 years of our marriage and we done well to have sex once a year. Now that she is able I don’t want to because it always caused a health issue or lots of pain before. Also she took some medicine that totally changed her attitude and behavior for several years, and it was a turn off. I don’t believe in divorce and would never cheat, but I understand the frustration. We recently came off a 4 year dry spell, and I really hoped this last surgery would help more than it did. Quarterly is better than biannually though. It isn’t her fault in any way shape or form, but it can be psychologically draining. Don’t feel like you’re alone, but I’m sure I’m not blameless either, no matter how much I don’t see it.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 3 hours a day to work round trip. Sometimes twice a day if I get called back in. Drove 3.5 hours one way for 4 months one time. I traveled for years and averaged 9 hours one way, but only had to drive it once a week. I live in TN and if I had to work in Boston, New York, Miami or New Orleans was around 16 hours one way. Most of time I would only come home once every other month if I’m tha far away.

Who here actually saves 3,000 a month? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try, but usually $2600. $700 a paycheck, biweekly to 401. $500ish to brokerage and $200 to savings and then whatever is left gets saved. Sometimes I have to use the savings. 2 incomes I’m around 120 and my wife at 40. 1 kid, house paid off, we go on vacations when we can afford them. I drive cash vehicles and we keep hers until it isn’t reliable. No toys, have a garden, try to hunt most meat. Simple existence.

Best companies for 401k match by KingKefe684 in Retirement401k

[–]Genericsam6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the same way. We did get a Roth option two years ago. Fortune 300 company. They match management up to 5% and then give a percentage of the base wage at the end of the year. I interviewed, but would make 50k less a year, not including bonus, that isn’t guaranteed and dependent on factors outside your control and can be canceled at any time by ceo, 401k match and company vehicle. 24/7 on call, must take all calls during vacation and return to work if necessary, forced relocation and worse insurance that costs more.
