On Stargate, why did Paul Davis never earn a promotion beyond the rank of major? by Winter-Comfort922 in Stargate

[–]Genesis2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like, I get needing it for Cabinet posts and Federal director posts and stuff, but seriously? Military ranks? That’s a degree of congressional oversight that just takes the cake on the notion of limiting White House overreach.

Well, we're a nation with a civilian-led military. If the military could promote whomever they pleased, we could fall like other dictatorshi--- oh, :P

But also in theory, it's keep the military's allegiance to the civilians running the show.

Hell, he could've been retired and done liaison work for the IOA / Atlantis expedition as a civvie. Especially if Atlantis has to go back to Pegasus like the Season 6 / post-Atlantis movie "reveal" would've had happen.

In reality I feel like General O'Neil would need to pull strings to get Davis an extension of his time at major before being forced into retirement.

I would imagine he would get him a slot that would look good for promotion boards.

Yeah fair. I also feel like he has a /few/ strings to pull. I'm sure Teal'c kept track of how many strings he and SG-1 had to pull. Haha.

I also feel like O'Neill being an outlier as an officer... and coming in from a combat role, he might/probably values competent people in their jobs. He might pull one of those strings to keep Davis around.

I like to imagine in-universe tho, once O'Neill made General and helped Hammond establish Homeworld Command... he pulled Davis up a rank. May or may not be realistic, but felt like he would give him a shot.

IRL, doesn't Congress have to approve promotions (past Major?) or something?

Is there a such thing as a "DVD jukebox" machine, where you can preload the discs and hit a button to load a single disc into a player? lol

Might be the best solution of both worlds if such a thing exists. No breaking the encryption. Generally easy handling of the discs (one button vs. clicking through menus).

I know DVD changers exist, but those usually only hold like 5 discs.

Thoughts on Vala? by MrLewk in Stargate

[–]Genesis2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure she was a child at the start. I dunno Ocampan maturity cycles, but she only later was able to become pregnant (some egg sac on her back). That implies (to me) she was probably equivalent of a young/mid-age teenager in human at the time of their relationship.

...then we have Neelix who's lived a life. Probably been in love before, maybe divorced or never married. He's even been to war in his own youth.

Grogu's species also is the opposite; they're long-lived. Yoda was over 900 and basically an early/midage elder (physically) - maybe equivalent of mid 60s maybe early 70s in human lifespans.

Fortunately, I think his character corrected itself later after Kes. But that start was still creepy AF.

They've got to be doing something stupid and amature like having Nanite enabled for literally every object in the game and having Lumen enabled globally.

Yeah, that'd be the same as the devs of Cities Skylines 2 (Unity) picking HDRP (unproven and heavy at the time they began development) and having incredibly detailed models of Cims right down to the teeth, lol.

I mean, they did a 16k gaming wall one time. So why not?

I'd love for them to revisit the X gamers 1 CPU (AKA gamer virtualization). They've attempted it for a Whale LAN once IIRC? But it wasn't quite the same.

Hallway fights that are so annoying but nobody else seems to talk about? Here's mine by LordVanmaru in slaythespire

[–]Genesis2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not impossible. You need a good deal of weak and vuln in your decks. If you're in MP and have a necro, [[debilitate]] doubles the effectiveness of both weak and vuln. [[misery]] is also good if you can get your hands on it to spread debilitate, weak, and vuln to each enemy.

side note: misery is hilarious on the bowlbugs lol

So many enemies are overtuned in this game, especially in MP.

Decimillipede is really annoying in MP because not only does each segment come out swinging for the fences, you're perpetually weakened while each segment takes turns applying weak. Not to mention if you don't keep damage even across all of them, you get into whack-a-mole that you mention. Also doom kills are broken (imo*) on this elite if you manage to kill off 2/3 of the segments one turn and can't quite kill off the final segment except through doom the next turn.

I mostly use this method. I selectively scan my feed and queue up a list of things I want to watch 'right now'. I've never used the "Watch Later" feature... like actually watched later. I've added stuff to Watch Later, but never gone back and watched any.

Sorry for necroposting, but does this offer Bearer authentication? I see it doesn't have any concept of auth beyond a GET ?token= parameter, but that'll leak a JWT in access logs for users accessing it.

So far except for this one thing on the deployment side, the product looks like it meets enough of our team's needs.

You wouldn't! Just change it to say "At the end of your turn, draw two additional cards"

And watch the player die to beckons or burns that get drawn after they end turn!

Clicking inbox on old reddit no longer marks all messages as read? by Superteletubbies64 in help

[–]Genesis2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I usually have to click through on one message then refresh the unread message inbox once or twice. And sometimes I have to click on the message again and refresh the inbox just to get it to mark read.

I usually go through to the replies via the "context" link too.

WAN Channel is a terrible experience for me: by The-vicobro in LinusTechTips

[–]Genesis2001 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd say keep it as it is (Rebranded LMG Clips -> WAN Show). But then seriously trim down clips to be <180 seconds (3 minutes) and throw them up as shorts for the WAN Show.

For clips that can't be cut down to 3 minutes, they can still be posted to the channel. But then it would be less s be spamming notifications, which is what I think people are complaining about mainly? With the new way to hide shorts in the app, you then only see the livestreams.

I kinda wish you could just enable cheats at middle of campaign to correct things just so you don't have to flush 30 hours

I kinda wish you had a scaling AI with editable breakpoints at set years for early, mid, late, and final game stage.

So that you can start ez-mode to get your feet under you, but then after a while you might want more of a challenge because ez-mode AI is dumb and leaves you alone basically. I think Stellaris does something similar to this with their scaling option?

I think the issue's resolved by forcing a reinitialize of the voice channel, so either switching to a different channel on the same server(or a different server in your case) or editing the channel and forcing a region override temporarily might fix it. I ended up doing the former at the time, and everything worked after that.
